SEAT have asked us to find out about the terrible things that Mumsnetters' DC have done to the family car.

Here's what SEAT say: "The new seven-seat SEAT Alhambra comes with everything you’d expect from a stylishly modern MPV. It comes with an abundance of space, technology, plus a powerful and sporty edge. The SEAT Alhambra features a wealth of new equipment and contemporary styling with over a dozen “Best MPV” awards since it was launched.
“Versatility remains a designed-in quality for the New Alhambra, packed with features to keep you comfortable, entertained and in control, it’s perfect for family adventures, no matter how long the journey.”
There's a £300 Love2Shop voucher to be won, so now's an excellent time to share: what are the most infuriating/alarming/astonishing things that your DC have done in or to your family vehicle?

Have sticky fingers smeared melted chocolate buttons across your pristine seats - or spilt a million tiny beads which are still turning up years later . Have you discovered unmentionables down the back of the seats - or been embarrassed by child-based detritus when giving a lift to a colleague?

Whatever it is, we'd love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

It wasn't my car, but my car was in the garage and so we had a courtesy car. My car had an electronic parking brake, the courtesy car did not.

Sooo, dt2 got in the car, and found an interesting looking lever and decided to press it. Car rolled off the drive, across the road and into the neighbour opposite's wall. DT2 did a dive out of the car as it rolled away and luckily the road was clear and the wall stopped the car from rolling into the neighbour's house.

The garage was NOT pleased!

I don't even really like to remember it but ds2 was sick multiple times when we were stuck in horrible traffic coming home from Devon. Neither ds is normally car sick so we weren't prepared and couldn't really stop.

You did say you'd love to hear about it!

Oldbiddywilkins · 13/10/2015 17:40

My son spilt a 4 litre bottle of milk into my boot. It absolutely stank and no matter how much I cleaned we just couldn't get rid of the smell.

myusername12345 · 13/10/2015 18:36

Spilt chocolate on the back seat and then sat on it and ground it in!

cocochips · 13/10/2015 19:23

Vomiting furiously!

Tonkatol · 13/10/2015 19:27

When our DD (now 16) was about 6, she had a tantrum because we picked her up from a friend's house slightly earlier than planned. She was so annoyed with us that she kicked the tray that was on the back of the driver's seat (so that the rear seat passenger could draw or place things, with a slot for a drinks holder) and broke it into pieces and then found a stone and sat inside the car, scratching the stone across the window. The scratches could not be removed and we didn't replace the tray. Needless to say she was in terrible trouble and was not popular with us!

mave · 13/10/2015 19:53

It's always a mess, crumbs, lip balm, anything they can get their hands on gets everywhere!!

Spencer1234 · 13/10/2015 20:03

DS was sick all over the back seat!!! The smell wouldn't go for weeks

alsproject · 13/10/2015 20:11

My son stuck one of those fake scratch stickers to the side of the car but it didn't come off easily

IAmAPaleontologist · 13/10/2015 20:18

I once vommed into a tub of playmobil on the way to France as a child this is now fondly remembered at almost all family gatherings.

Thankfully most poo, melted chocolate or wax crayon incidents in my own car have occurred in car seats so they are easily dealt with. Dd however is prone to car sickness, thankfully she has good aim and we are good at keeping a sturdy sick bag for her. Less good was when dd was nicely sick into her bag ( sick when you've had half a tub of blueberries is a very nice shade of pink) and ds1 of the sensitive gag reflex promptly spewed all over the back of the car because the smell made him gag. I was not particularly sympathetic, especially when he then tried to use the fact that he'd been sick to get off school the next day Hmm

hannonle · 13/10/2015 20:30

The worst was probably the projectile vomiting of rice krispies and milk on a long journey home from Grandma's when they were an infant. Nothing like a roadside clean-up and having to sit the child back in the stinking wiped-down car seat. Those were a smelly few hours!

When my little one refused to stay still for nappy changes - I would try any weird & wonderful method of changing him. when out & about - this would involve him standing in the front seat (he must have been 11 months-ish) banging on the steering wheel - while he was distracted, I would swoop in, whip away the soiled nappy - wipe like a mad woman & try & get the clean nappy on & trousers up before he noticed what was going on. This had around a 70% success rate.. there were definitely some incidents involving tray nuggets of poo & me in a mad panic trying to get them up before he sa on them & ground them into the seats!! Oh the things we do eh?!

pinklady123456 · 13/10/2015 21:17

Mine put a crisp in the cd drive when she was playing with it. I was not awfully amused, especially as its not worked properly since!

Maiyakat · 13/10/2015 21:49

I think I will be finding hair clips hidden in corners for the next 10 years! Along with the general muddy footprints, pages torn out of maps, raisins, cracker crumbs, spilt drinks....

tubbyj · 13/10/2015 21:49

When the rubber end of the grips fell off DS's bike, didn't think much of it till a few days later with a bit of wobble the now exposed metal bar ends went all the way down the side of the car.

Kem99 · 13/10/2015 21:53

Even after warning my DS not to go near the car he still managed to accidentally let his bike fall against it. This resulted in a long horizontal dent running down the length of the door caused by the handlebar.
The back seat usually resembles a skip!

SoupDragon · 13/10/2015 21:57

We smile fondly when the car ventilation system is turned up to maximum. When we had had the car for a very short time, DS1 managed to throw a tictac in through an air vent. Whenever it's turned to maximum, the tictac shofts and rattles. It's still rattling 5 years on.

lollylaus83 · 13/10/2015 21:59

We've had milk spillages which resulted in the car smelling like someone had died in it for weeks. My son peed all over the car once whilst travelling to Holland! The little monkeys also have a habit of dabbing their little hand prints over the paint work with sun cream on their hands!!

BikeRunSki · 13/10/2015 22:00

When my son was born we had a van. We went out for a walk in the Peak District one very cold winter weekend and changed ds's nappy in the back of the van. As we took of his nappy, his little boy bits were hit by a blast of icy air, leading to a blood curdling scream, and a high speed shot of wee that hit the ceiling and dripped down. Seven years later, we still talk about "The Grindleford Scream".

Kazzawazzawo0 · 13/10/2015 22:03

My daughter weed on the passenger seat a few years ago Confused It smelt of wee for ages.

shivbrown · 13/10/2015 22:07

My 1 year old did a poo and decided to put his hands in it and smear it all over the windows, Only when i turned round did my gorgeous boy look like a Bourbon Bisquit!

Princessxo · 13/10/2015 22:14

Did I ever mention how much I hate vaseline? Vaseline over everywhere because DS1 ran out of paint and was bored.

stimpy1 · 13/10/2015 22:27

We live in a very chalky area so my DS2 thought that all stones can draw..... and be wiped off. Last week I noticed a smiley face scratched into my car. I was very angry with him but it secretly makes me smile every time I see it!

My son was sick all down him and all over the front of the car while we were travelling on the motorway, I was trying to comfort him/stop him choking, while trying not to crash (quite important)... the stains and the smells lingered for AGES.. yuk!!

Marty673 · 14/10/2015 10:21

My DS scribbled on the plastic trim of the back door with his crayons which I thought would come out with plenty of scrubbing, sadly it didn't.

It's a works vehicle, so I'm hoping when I hand it back it won't be noticed Hmm
