SEAT have asked us to find out about the terrible things that Mumsnetters' DC have done to the family car.

Here's what SEAT say: "The new seven-seat SEAT Alhambra comes with everything you’d expect from a stylishly modern MPV. It comes with an abundance of space, technology, plus a powerful and sporty edge. The SEAT Alhambra features a wealth of new equipment and contemporary styling with over a dozen “Best MPV” awards since it was launched.
“Versatility remains a designed-in quality for the New Alhambra, packed with features to keep you comfortable, entertained and in control, it’s perfect for family adventures, no matter how long the journey.”
There's a £300 Love2Shop voucher to be won, so now's an excellent time to share: what are the most infuriating/alarming/astonishing things that your DC have done in or to your family vehicle?

Have sticky fingers smeared melted chocolate buttons across your pristine seats - or spilt a million tiny beads which are still turning up years later . Have you discovered unmentionables down the back of the seats - or been embarrassed by child-based detritus when giving a lift to a colleague?

Whatever it is, we'd love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks
MNHQ

This is a few years ago,my youngest child then was 7 and screamed as he was bored and didn't want to come into the post office so stayed in car with his sleeping nana and 10 year old sister, I asked the 10 year old to give him the pens in the glove compartment and find him something to draw on, 20 mins later I came back to my car with my children sticking coloured in Always pads stuck all over the outside windows, a double pack, totally mortified and couldn't just get in and go had to unstick the most stickiest pads off my car windows. Still cringe when the kids laugh about it now.

Vomit, poo, wee and a tube of glitter emptied - all at the same time!

sweetsomethings · 13/10/2015 10:40

bashed it with they toy golf club who knew that a plastic one could make such a mess

MAT12 · 13/10/2015 10:57

It would have to be when my daughter was ill we was trying to get her to hospital but fluid came out of both ends. it took months for the smell to calm down and not be so pungent

I brought some nail polish at tescos for a very rare night out. On way home i had stopped to post some letters at a post box. Got out of the car literally for a few seconds, got back in to find my lovely darling boy had managed to reach the one shopping bag with the nail polish in and open it and attempt to paint his nails which ended in bright pink nail polish everywhere - total nightmare!!

My DD spilt a whole milk-shake over the back seat... it was the worst smell ever. I couldn't get rid of it, so had to drive to a valeting garage (with the window down.)

The guy laughed and said 'Don't worry love, I've smelled everything, nothing bothers me'. As I turned to leave he had is head on the floor retching (I guess 2 day old banana milk-shake was not one of the smells he had experienced before) Confused

Not so much damage to the car as damage with the car.
My son used to love sitting in the car pretending to drive. It was a particularly warm summer that year so he managed to wear 2 dips in the drive where he kept turning the wheels one hot day.
My (now-ex) husband wasn't impressed.....

Or the day that my ds locked the car while playing with the spare car keys 10 seconds after my mum (who, to be fair, was only trying to be helpful) put my handbag in the car and shut the door (which I never did when he was playing with keys).
Only very slight damage to the paintwork on the door as we worked on getting the door button in the "up" position with some of that plastic strip stuff. Not technically his fault but.....

worldgonecrazy · 13/10/2015 12:17

Not my car, but a top of the range white car in the showroom, with cream leather seats. The salesman had been feeding my daughter Maltesers so she was a sticky brown mess who decided to go and "explore" the car whilst I was signing contracts.

The worst think I've ever done to my own car is drive it into the front of the house, to the extent that we needed a tow truck to pull it out. That was quite embarassing, especially as the neighbours were all trying to help.

One of the worst things after i bought myself a brand new car was my children testing out their bikes on the street and one of my boys coming at a good speed straight into my car.. I was not happy, neither was the car, nice dent, scratches and paint chipped! But its ok cos mums a millionaire i can always get a new one Arghhhhhhhh!

cazzzie987 · 13/10/2015 12:35

Threw up everywhere!

rainbow1983 · 13/10/2015 12:46

I think the worst thing was when my eldest was sick all over the back of the car..... it wasn't pleasant to say the least lol

helly27 · 13/10/2015 13:01

Being sick after cereal and milk, the smell lasted for ages especially in the sun

kungfupidge · 13/10/2015 13:54

well my little boy loves cars and pait so we sorted out a few old cars and gave him a little paint pot and brush so he could paint them, only little did we know as soon as are backs were turned little harry has painted are nice silver car a lovely shade of poppy red to match his toy car !!! all over the doors and bonnet ! luckily it was poster paint so i was able to remove it with hot water lol :)

BellaWella86 · 13/10/2015 13:55

Pull the rear view mirror off whilst we were waiting for school pick up.

shroney · 13/10/2015 13:55

Put hands covered in suncream over the paintwork which has left a horrible stain that I can't get rid of.

ann28 · 13/10/2015 14:03

Milk sick, how awful. Truly horrendous stench for ages.

feeona123 · 13/10/2015 14:40

Not had that many issues so far...little one is only 18 months, but I am still traumatised by the time she projectile vomited her morning Wheatabix all over herself and car seat!!

cookinmummy · 13/10/2015 15:05

My 3 have spilled, puked, urinated - you name it. Worst damage though that couldnt be cleaned was when my DD2 climbed into the car and yanked the hand rail thingy that you can hang stuff on (what are they called?!) and snapped it :-/

SleepyForest · 13/10/2015 15:09

Just bodily fluids thankfully.

BrandNewAndImproved · 13/10/2015 15:43

The worst thing my dc have done to my car has to be the bbq sauce incident.

Macdonalds smokey bbq sauce was opened and squashed into the carpet. They declined to tell me and when I sat in the car on the way to do the car run the stench made me get back out and throw up.

melski1989 · 13/10/2015 15:47

Vomit. Vomit everywhere.

tamalyn1 · 13/10/2015 15:56

my daughter went through the baby bag as i picked her baby sister up from creche and smeared sudocrem all over the windows, it was a white out literally! not impressed and very hard to clean up

DinosaursRoar · 13/10/2015 16:07

we've also got little suncream handprints on the car

And lovely scratches round the door frame from football boots being swung around.

coffeeisnectar · 13/10/2015 16:14

Had booked flights from Glasgow to Heathrow one year with dd 1 who was 1.6 yr old that Xmas. Two days before flight she got an ear infection so had to cancel the flight and book a hire car and drive us to Dorset from Scotland.

It was the trip from hell. I eventually arrived at my parents at 2am with all the Windows down, vomit every where. I spent the next day stripping the car seat and scrubbing the seat and carpet in the hire car. Poor dd was cuddled up with grandad while me and my mum spent the day washing all her clothes, blankets and bits of car seat.

marrich · 13/10/2015 16:32

My son once emptied his pockets of some horrid creeply crawlies he'd 'investigated' on a forest field trip into the ashtrays. Needless to say they escaped and we had a wonderful time trying to get them on to kitchen roll before placing them carefully back on the grass.
