SEAT have asked us to find out about the terrible things that Mumsnetters' DC have done to the family car.

Here's what SEAT say: "The new seven-seat SEAT Alhambra comes with everything you’d expect from a stylishly modern MPV. It comes with an abundance of space, technology, plus a powerful and sporty edge. The SEAT Alhambra features a wealth of new equipment and contemporary styling with over a dozen “Best MPV” awards since it was launched.
“Versatility remains a designed-in quality for the New Alhambra, packed with features to keep you comfortable, entertained and in control, it’s perfect for family adventures, no matter how long the journey.”
There's a £300 Love2Shop voucher to be won, so now's an excellent time to share: what are the most infuriating/alarming/astonishing things that your DC have done in or to your family vehicle?

Have sticky fingers smeared melted chocolate buttons across your pristine seats - or spilt a million tiny beads which are still turning up years later . Have you discovered unmentionables down the back of the seats - or been embarrassed by child-based detritus when giving a lift to a colleague?

Whatever it is, we'd love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks
MNHQ

Ds2 drew all over the bonnet of my car with a large stone. I don't even know how his 3 year old arms managed to reach right into the middle of it, and apply such pressure .......but they did.
I was just lucky to have such an understanding insurance company.

ouryve · 11/10/2015 15:17

Several years ago, ds1 was none too pleased about returning home from his grandparents'. As we were unloading the car, he went and hid. We found him, about 5 minutes later, tucked away behind the car playing with the dolomite that the drive had been half heartedly gravelled with, many years before.

Later on, we discovered two small crosses etched into the paintwork.

We have a solid concrete drive, now!

JustRosieHere · 11/10/2015 19:10

DS decided to 'attack' the car with a 'sword'. In reality he scratched it with a plastic stick he so deep we had to have it resprayed. That was definitely the most expensive thing the kids have ever damaged and we now have a fence between the garden and the drive so he can't get near the cars.

Herebemonsters · 11/10/2015 20:49

Vomit, sun cream, poo, milk, melted chocolate have all been smeared everywhere in the car at various times and all manner of cleaning has never sorted it!!

Oh yes... And "washing" the car with pebbles....

BeeMyBaby · 11/10/2015 21:42

I have simply learnt never to give my DDs a banana as a snack in the car as it always ends up as finding pieces of gooey banana a week later around the back seat and on the floor.

mumnosbest · 12/10/2015 00:10

Oh where to start!
Possibly allowing a mint aero to melt into the heating vents. Everytime the heater was turned on there was a minty smell. Spreading sudocreme all over the back seat was a good one too.

minmooch · 12/10/2015 07:52

For an April Fool's joke my youngest DS applied a fake scratch to my car. A while later I asked him to wash it off with soapy water so I was not left with the sticky glue bits. DS (who was probably about 12 at the time) did as I asked, made sure there were no sticky bits - unfortunately he used the kitchen scrubber sponge which left permanent, very visible, circular scratch marks over an area twice the size of the fake scratch

My friend's teenage DS used to chew gum on the way to school. As he climbed out of the car, he used to discard his gum by sticking it under the door handle. This was in the front passenger seat and was discovered ages later when friend was giving a lift to someone on a night out. Yuck!

megletthesecond · 12/10/2015 13:41

Rushing a then 3.6yr old ds to the hospital with a nasty allergic reaction. He perked up after he'd thrown up over the back seat.

We don't use the car that often so once he'd been checked out and we arrived home I forgot about the sick in the car for a few days Blush. 5yrs on there's still a mark on the floor.

CharleyDavidson · 12/10/2015 19:10

Dropped the pot of cream onto the passenger footwell of the car when getting out of the car and then shutting the door on the pot so it exploded all over the carpet.

And not noticing until we went back out to the car a few hours later.

Despite many cleanings, that car (the newest one I'd ever bought and only owned by me for 2 weeks at that time) stank of cheese for soooo long. I had to drive with the window open for weeks and weeks.

cece · 12/10/2015 20:36

My DD had a cob on with me and scratched 'I hate you' into the paint work on the door of my car.

My son guzzled down a bottle of fruit shoot on our drive down to Nottingham. It was our first proper holiday with the kids. Ten minutes later he projectile vomitted the whole lot. It was watery and went absolutely everywhere! The car was a hire car and we tried cleaning it as best we could but they must have thought what the hell went on when we gave it back!

I let dd play in the front of the car for a few minutes at the end of a car journey. She was about 2. Next time I tried to use the CD player I couldn't... She'd jammed two CDs into the slot, and there they remain, hidden, out of reach, to this day, tantalising me with that whirring sound every time I scroll through the CD and radio options. She's five now.

In the previous car, we had this really handy drinks holder that popped out of the dasbboard low down and held a few cups. One day I let DS play in the front of the car at the end of a journey - can you spot a theme developing here.....?

InAndOfMyself · 12/10/2015 21:48

Yoghurt drink sprayed all over the back of the driver and passenger seats as well as all over two car seats. I have no idea why both of my DCs decided not to drink but to throw all the contents all over everything. They thought it was hilarious.

Sockattack · 12/10/2015 22:43

Suncream over body work. Broke an electric window once grrr

Chopchopbusybusy · 12/10/2015 22:43

DD1 drew lots of smiley faces all over my brand new car with a stone. My face was definitely not smiley when I saw it!

strikingstarlet · 12/10/2015 23:24

My girls are fairly good in the car, and luckily they haven't done anything too horrendous however we did have a "Don't laugh...but" moment last year when driving down south on holiday. We had given our 3 year old a bag of jelly babies. (I huge treat may I add and not an every day occurence!!) My husband was asking me to navigate so I was distracted for 5 minutes or so although I could still hear my daughter chattering away in the back! I turned round to find out how she was doing with her sweeties only to realise that she wasn't eating them she was licking the, and sticking them on the window, basically creating a big fuzzy felt scene! ?? We did wag the finger at her and give the token "no no no" but we found it hilarious and both my husband and myself had said we would never have gotten away so lightly in our day!!

glennamy · 12/10/2015 23:28

DD had a nice episode of projectile vomiting about 50 miles into a 200 mile journey when driving down to a holiday to Cornwall... that smell never left the car no matter how hard we tried. On another occasion she decided the car seat leathers would make a nice canvas for her glitter pens rather than the colouring book we had provided... Lesson well and truly learned!

rainbowvalley · 12/10/2015 23:28

Scratched and dented the door while playing with a go kart

wingobins · 12/10/2015 23:30

My son stinks the car out every week after football with his smelly, muddy boots and the smell is always there! We've got used to it but nobody likes getting in our car!

freefan · 12/10/2015 23:33

aside from the vomit and not making the toilet in time, my eldest DC once decided to 'hide' her pieces of banana down the back of the back seat....car smelt a bit funny for a while before we discovered her banana stash by which time it was just a black fluffy sticky mess sticking the seats together!

Elizasmum02 · 12/10/2015 23:40

My daughter decided our hamster wanted to come with us on holiday but didnt tell us.....she only told us after we had arrived in spain and our car was in the airport parking.... hammy was alive and well a week later but managed to chew a MASSIVE hole in the passenger seat

lynsmagoo · 12/10/2015 23:41

dog poo all over the back seat, the smell was awful. Never fail to check the feet now before entering the car!

Happyjad · 12/10/2015 23:43

Broke the window with a Boomerang!

andywedge · 12/10/2015 23:52

Some years ago we were on holiday in N Wales and my car got filthy so I cleaned it. Later on my son (who was 3 at the time) was outside at the car.

'Aw bless' I thought 'He's copying his Dad and cleaning the car'.

Upon closer inspection, yes, he was mimicking his Dad and trying to clean it, only with a wire brush. He left a few hundred scratches on it.
