SEAT have asked us to find out about the terrible things that Mumsnetters' DC have done to the family car.

Here's what SEAT say: "The new seven-seat SEAT Alhambra comes with everything you’d expect from a stylishly modern MPV. It comes with an abundance of space, technology, plus a powerful and sporty edge. The SEAT Alhambra features a wealth of new equipment and contemporary styling with over a dozen “Best MPV” awards since it was launched.
“Versatility remains a designed-in quality for the New Alhambra, packed with features to keep you comfortable, entertained and in control, it’s perfect for family adventures, no matter how long the journey.”
There's a £300 Love2Shop voucher to be won, so now's an excellent time to share: what are the most infuriating/alarming/astonishing things that your DC have done in or to your family vehicle?

Have sticky fingers smeared melted chocolate buttons across your pristine seats - or spilt a million tiny beads which are still turning up years later . Have you discovered unmentionables down the back of the seats - or been embarrassed by child-based detritus when giving a lift to a colleague?

Whatever it is, we'd love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks
MNHQ

Puked into the air vent (well, into the atlas in the side pocket, all over herself, all over the dash, all over the dash AND right into the air vent).

That far outclassed the puking all over the back seats (another child, a few years before), because when I turned the heating on when the winter came.... euw!

My dd when aged about 4 was given some chewing gum by a friend's child who was in the car with us. do had never had chewing gum, didn't know what it was and was confused when it burst out all minty and hot in her mouth. So she took it out and spent next 20 minutes trying to work out where to put it, sticking it places, pulling it off and trying elsewhere. By the time we were home it was all over her and the car. Took hours to clean her up and the bloody car! That's why I ban chewing gum.

Opened an exploding Yop which covered everyone and everything. It was mid-summer and we were on a very long journey.

Ds had been driving a whole week when a deer ran out in front of him. Wasn't killed and ran off so he couldn't check it, but a big ding in the wing and quite a lot of fur. He knocked the ding out himself. Luckily it didn't put him off driving at all.

angiehoggett · 20/10/2015 12:12

decided to eat feast lollies in the back on a really hot day, chocolate was literally all over for weeks afterwards!

manfalou · 20/10/2015 13:26

We went on a long journey so gave DS some felt tips and paper with the art board thing to keep him occupied. Paper wasn't good enough, he drew on the ceilling !!! of the car instead to make it 'look more pretty'... I don't know how we didnt spot him doing it really.

katieskatie82 · 20/10/2015 14:21

Dropped mcdonalds tomato sauce all over the seat of the car!

iwasyoungonce · 20/10/2015 18:55

Projectile vomit that went all over the back of the passenger seat, into the pocket thing, the floor, the back seat, inside of the door and the child seat.

The actual vomiting lasted less than 10 seconds. The clear up operation took 3 hours.

moneypenny66 · 20/10/2015 20:29

We went to visit the White Cliffs of Dover with some friends and DS collected lots of chalk...which we then had to keep in the car for a long time! This led to chalk marks everywhere which did not want to come off!

After a night flight home and a two hour journey back, DS threw up all over the car (including down the window shutter casing and window). Spent the next 3 hours cleaning it up and could still smell the lingering smells for 2 years after... have just had to fork out royally to have it professionally valeted to get rid of the smell... children are now relegated to the boot!!

After a night flight home and a two hour journey back, DS threw up all over the car (including down the window shutter casing and window)- it dripped out when opening the door. Spent the next 3 hours cleaning it up and could still smell the lingering smells for 2 years after... have just had to fork out royally to have it professionally valeted to get rid of the smell... children are now relegated to the boot!!

Twin sons also managed to free themselves from car seats aged 2 on our way to a Christening on M25... only realised when I looked in rearview mirror that they had disappeared.. they were playing in the footwell!!

hossenfeffer · 20/10/2015 23:34

I allowed No1son to use my car when he'd just passed his test. Made him promise not to muck about; driving is about responsibility and getting there.

He was 17, inexperienced, enjoying his new freedom and practising his skills when he clouted the front wheel on a nearside verge.

Sorry for the damage he burst into the bedroom to report what had happened.

I know what he was most mortified about.

Car was quickly sorted but I think he learnt his lesson - knock first and don't drive like a twat.

We've had everything from vomit to wee, that's just the parents! The kids have been no trouble. Smile

marshgirl · 21/10/2015 13:41

My little boy was going through my bag and found the perfume. He was happily spraying away in the back and took a wrestle to get the bottle off him. We got out the car smelling like we had bathed in the stuff and the car had smelt like it had a very expensive air freshener attached for a long time.

grannybiker · 21/10/2015 13:49

Kicked over the 4pint carton of milk.

Any tips for getting rid of the smell? It's been weeks :(

justamoment · 21/10/2015 13:49

Ours have managed to physically break bits of interior fixtures and fittings off, not intentionally, but simply by using them as convenient footholds to climb into car seats or by idly kicking/resting feet on them whilst seated....

OneFlewOverTheChickenHutch · 21/10/2015 15:07

The worst would be my toddler proudly announcing that she was cleaning the car windows. Stopping at the traffic lights, I turn to discovered she had picked her nose and wiped the contents on the glass.

Bogeyface · 21/10/2015 20:04

In an attempt to assist my father on a very frosty day, my sister and I helpfully boiled the kettle and poured the water all over the frozen windscreen. Which of course resulted in a shattered windscreen.

My father hit the roof until my mother got home and pointed out that if he had been looking after us instead of snoozing on the sofa then it wouldnt have happened and given that we were only 7 and 5 at the time, a shattered windscreen was the least of what we could have done. The shouting about the fact that we could have seriously injured ourselves happened every time she went to work and he was left in charge.....

florencebabyjo · 21/10/2015 21:21

The worst thing that ever happened was on a very long car journey We were on the M25 miles away from services when DS announced he desperately needed a wee. There was nowhere to stop and even though we asked him to hold it he was getting frantic. He was 8 at the time and a bit dramatic at the best of times so we thought he was just trying it on. After a minute or two he shouted "Its coming out!" DH told him to take the lid off his water bottle and use that as an emergency wee pot. This might have been fine but DS didnt tell him the bottle was three quarters full so when he wee'd in it it overflowed and went everywhere. We had to travel another 100 miles in our wee soaked car with two children who thought it was hilarious and were hooting with laughter the whole way home. It took two weeks to dry out and is still stained.

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 21/10/2015 22:15

Just one look under the passenger seat of where my darling daughter plonks her butt is enough to disgust anyone. Wrappers, sweets, fries, hair bobbles, false nails, hair clips, bottle lids are just a few of the things i have found..

And she is TEN.

xx

upthehammers · 21/10/2015 22:33

we have a list of things ...

  • 'writing' (scratching) their initials on the side of the car with a stick to show me they know how to write them (not amused)
  • 'cleaning' the initials off the car the following week with a brillo/scouring pad they found in the kitchen (really not amused!)
[the above two were whilst parked directly outside the door at a caravan so they weren't just playing in the road!] -putting coins into my cd player so it no longer works as it thinks it has a disc in it -putting coins into the vents never to be seen again
  • leaving internal lights on so I've needed to be jump-started a million times
  • plus the customary soiling of seats with drinks, mouldy food, chocolate, sick etc
elvisthehamster · 22/10/2015 00:44

more vomit here too, it is so hard to get rid of the smell too! Even worse is we were on a uk holiday with friends and ds decided to go in their car on a trip to a theme park for the day..and ds was sick all over the inside of their lovely new car! Must be even worse when it is someone else vomit!!

Also my children seen to have posted hundred of pennies , hairclips, barbie and Disney princess shoes in seatbelt clips and down the side of seats-never mind the millions of raisins and crumbs!!
