Snazaroo have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters’ Halloween face painting tips are.

Here’s what they say, “Letting children just be children, to play, run and imagine is important for every parent and a little face paint can transform everyday play into a magical world of make-believe.

"Sometimes face painting can be tricky but we’re here to help. We’re always thinking of easy ways for you to create designs children love. As they turn to see who is in the mirror, the magic shared will be remembered long after the paint has been rinsed away.

"Go on, paint a smile and see what happens”

So, what face painting tips or designs do you have to share with other Mumsnetters for the spookiest time of year? Maybe you have an easy three step design to transform your DC into a vampire? Perhaps you've got that skeleton look down pat or are good at turning out mini monsters or weeny witches? Also, is there anything in particular you enjoy about face painting? Is it the creativity of it? Or seeing how much your DCs enjoy it? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

It would be particularly great if you could also post a picture on this thread of your Halloween face painting prowess Grin

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

Just remember it doesn't need to be perfect the children love it because I have done it and as it is Halloween it is okay for it to be scary, just make sure you have enough baby lotion to get the black off, it can be a nightmare to remove

sammylea80 · 13/10/2015 12:01

Use a pimer before putting the paints onto the skin , it will help it stay put .. kis can't help smudging your hard work lol

My kids HATE having their face painted, not sure why, but when they have had their face painted, I always find going "tickle tickle tickle" when I sponge the base paintbon really helps, and also having a mirror for them to watch always helps. And lastly, let them have a go!!

practise beforehand so there's less pressure on the day

We're more about enthusiasm than artistic ability - so I usually let my son put the face paint on!

My 3 kids (soon to be 4 in December) love Halloween and they always choose different styles each year
my tips for face painting are firstly buy good quality face paints that are suitable for young skin, make sure you have stocked up on the right colours & materials use a sponge to get on the base colours and then apply detail with brushes if i am doing lots of facepint like my daughters 'spooky clown face' i try to do thin layers or keep it very basic as the kiddies can get impatient & definitely don't try anything to ambitious unless you have lots of practice as simple designs and stencils can have brilliant results.

Get on pinterest with your little ones and have fun scrolling through all the amazing face-painting. Then pick a few to try and have a great time practicing!

Not painted by me I'll say first.
But most importantly ALWAYS check for an allergic reaction before covering your child, even if you have used that brand before still test - they may have changed something in the 'recipe' & especially as its going on the face, you need to be safe

Maddie adores Halloween, and I always have to "do her up" as something with the face paint. My tips are, always check for allergic reactions, secondly sometimes for Halloween less is more. Maddie is wearing only two colours in this picture, as a ghoul she's got a white face with black eye sockets and mouth lines.. this look is easy for her to have a go on her own with!

Face painting is a family affair. We encourage Samuel, our 5 year old, to use a brush and sponge to decorate his own face. He will be the master face painter one day!

I'm not very good at face painting, so usually look on Pinterest for ideas and copy one carefully from there that looks good. Results have mostly been passable so far!

Face painting ready for a party!

rocketriffs · 14/10/2015 13:39

A tip I learned when we went to a circus school event was to apply a white base, a bit like a primer before applying colours.

pipersky · 14/10/2015 14:58

The children love having their face painted and I have done it with them both from an early age. My tips are to have a variety of different paint brushes including a small fine one for details. It doesn't have to be perfect children just love having it done so just give it ago. Google for facepaint ideas and then just have ago. I started with just 5 basic colours and now have shimmer paints, glitter ones and array of colours.

A nice layer of sudocream helps face paint stay in place and also creates a nice light blank canvas

del2929 · 14/10/2015 21:06

my kids are easily frightened so we use glitter to ease off the scaryness... it works for us

staceycaine · 14/10/2015 21:56

Watch your color layers. Start with your base, let it dry, and apply your additional colors on top. Be sure to let the face paint dry in between coats. Use the lightest colors first and work your way to the darker colors. It doesn't have to be hard to do I usually watch YouTube tutorials as I'm much better copying the makeup after watching somebody, than I am just doing it myself. Hope you like my zipper face makeup in this photo, didn't take long to do but looks very effective and I thought it would look even more effective putting a scary hospital into the background of the photo. ??

Zoeyph · 15/10/2015 05:38

A good primer as base coat , apply with a makeup sponge and keep layering for the affect

EasterRobin · 15/10/2015 14:10

Big, bold, simple designs are best for very little ones who won't want to keep still for very long.
