Snazaroo have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters’ Halloween face painting tips are.

Here’s what they say, “Letting children just be children, to play, run and imagine is important for every parent and a little face paint can transform everyday play into a magical world of make-believe.

"Sometimes face painting can be tricky but we’re here to help. We’re always thinking of easy ways for you to create designs children love. As they turn to see who is in the mirror, the magic shared will be remembered long after the paint has been rinsed away.

"Go on, paint a smile and see what happens”

So, what face painting tips or designs do you have to share with other Mumsnetters for the spookiest time of year? Maybe you have an easy three step design to transform your DC into a vampire? Perhaps you've got that skeleton look down pat or are good at turning out mini monsters or weeny witches? Also, is there anything in particular you enjoy about face painting? Is it the creativity of it? Or seeing how much your DCs enjoy it? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

It would be particularly great if you could also post a picture on this thread of your Halloween face painting prowess Grin

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

Make sure you practice before the big day!

sealight123 · 12/10/2015 12:40

Truthfully, I'm pretty rubbish at face painting on the fly...
However, I would recommend doing your research. I practice my skills by watching YouTube videos and online guides.
Practicing on myself and, when I've perfected it a little bit, then trying the design on my daughter (who is a wriggler)

Here are a few of my face painting the efforts on DD. Spooky pumpkin, Sugar Skull and The Grinch Smile

I normally google for help and inspiration! I dont do too bad at cats, (see pic!) a little white base and lots of black whiskas normally has a decent effect!! Its not too difficult if you have a few tries! I find the less detail actually pulls it off better than overdoing it!! xx

don't do it, as it is a pain cleaning it off

rainbow1983 · 12/10/2015 13:10

Use a set of old make up brushes, or invest in a cheap set, they are so much better to apply with

janeyf1 · 12/10/2015 13:13

We use my eye highlighter & lipsticks to draw on our faces

glennamy · 12/10/2015 13:14

I'm not that good at face painting but I can do the basics which was good when DD was very young, now I just get a neighbour who is very good to do it! So I cheat... :)

HairsprayQueen · 12/10/2015 13:15

My only tip would be to take wipes out with you if going out with face painted children. Every time both DS have had theirs done they want it taken off after a short while and when I'm underprepared the tears lead to streaks and then it gets all over their clothes, hands, hair etc (which is why we say no at overpriced stalls on trips out now!)

Gilla01 · 12/10/2015 13:28

I prefer cheap wigs and a minimum of face paint. Had a nasty experience once with some that didn't want to wash off!

Notstayingup · 12/10/2015 13:36

I have had mixed experiences with facepaints bought some cheap ones from Amazon which caused a bit of a reaction with dd1 so now we keep to using my makeup - princess, witches and pussy cats!!

ann28 · 12/10/2015 14:06

Always have baby wipes handy!!

pixelwife · 12/10/2015 14:07

I have no artistic ability but I do have children that want to get involved in facepainted so I have a rubbish artist mummy hack! I do Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles faces. All green except for a banner across the eyes in one of the four turtle colours! Simples!

Use Youtube and Google to get step by step help to create a great Halloween look for your child

SaltySeaBird · 12/10/2015 14:44

Pinterest is great for inspiration - there are some very creative people out there.

I find making sure I get an all over even base to completely cover DD's face and then building up the detail works best. Having a plan is a good idea too - if it something intricate I've seen on Pinterest I've been known to sketch it on some A4 paper first to check it's within my artistic abilities, especially as she won't stay still all that long.

beckyinman · 12/10/2015 14:44

I'm rubbish at face painting but there are some really good online tutorials that help

feeona123 · 12/10/2015 15:18

Try and keep it simple!

gholmes724 · 12/10/2015 15:20

Keep it simple

ImmortalBeloved72 · 12/10/2015 15:32

I'm awful at face painting so my tip would be "buy a mask"

farhanac · 12/10/2015 16:31

Getting them to be still for too long is difficult so keep designs simple

lindseystuart85 · 12/10/2015 16:54

If your little one has sensitive skin, go with an all-natural or organic face paint set this will save any irritation
It is good to use make up pads to apply the face paint too, you get more softer results and the pads are brilliant for blending colours

carolacr · 12/10/2015 17:07

Orange face, crazy lines around the eyes and mouth, My perfect little pumpkin

hannonle · 12/10/2015 17:24

My biggest tip would be to remember to do an allergy test if you are buying face paints.

Or if you're disorganised like me, scribble something at the last minute with an eyeliner and struggle to remove the staining afterwards!
