Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables have asked us to find out how you get the whole family together for a cosy night in.

Here’s what they say, "New Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables are a fun way for all the family to get involved, so we’d love to hear from Mumsnetters about how they encourage the whole family to enjoy a family night in."

So, what do you do to ensure your busy family spends time together? Do you make sure everyone's favourite meal - or dessert - is on the menu? Perhaps there's a TV show that's guaranteed to gather you all in one place? Or do you use more direct tactics like bribery?! Maybe you cut off supply to the wifi or have made the lounge or kitchen an irresistably cosy place to congregate?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

Once a week we all stay in and we dress up as each other and have to be that person for the whole night.
Its a bummer when you get the cat

Our winter routine is fab fun family Friday. After school we make pizza dough, then a quick tidy up and hoover the living room while dough proves, then DCs make the pizzas and I cook them while they change into pjs. Then it's either a movie or games night. ....sometimes both!

Nice dinner, early pjs and family hugs on the sofa or games in the bedroom. Just being warm, safe and together makes it special.

With 2 teenagers its hard so once a week all phones are left alone and we settle down to watch Gogglebox with a big bar of chocolate and ice cream!

We make homemade pizza, the children choose what shape of base they want and DH tends to choose special toppings for himself so it's a nice treat. Sometimes DH will also play his mandole to the children while they wait for them to cook, then we choose a film to watch together.

Saturday night - Strictly ( single mum with 11year old DD).
PJs, and homemade blankets on the sofa and then pets piled on top. All cuddled up with hot chocolate and squirty cream. We know all the stuff - look at those heel leads, oh her legs are not straight enough.
Well also love Bake Off and Sewing Bee, but this are mid week no treats events. But we love talking about the shows as they go on.

Instead of going out for dinner we give the kids £10 per person to shop at a supermarket and we cook a meal together and eat it.

Lego days- forbidden to get changed into clothes and we play with lego all day. Whats not to like....

We love to cuddle up on the sofa under a duvet with lots of treats and a good movie. A glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other is our idea of a bliss treat.

We're always so busy it's a real treat to have a family movie night. We have treats (chocolate and popcorn, wine for me and something nice for the DDs) and snuggle under furry throws to watch a good film.

My boys and I have 'mussel night' once a month or so... DH is a seafood detester so we indulge ourselves when he's at work on a Saturday night! Huge bowl of mussels and lots of bread to mop up the juices, then onto a classic children's film and an enormous bar of chocolate to share...

Movie night. We go to the supermarket, we get a film, popcorn, ice cream and sweets. We sit together - I try and turn my phone off and we have movie night. The kids love it, and ask for it every month

We have a film night and show the film on DH's projector, so it looks like you're at the cinema. We also order a pizza and eat chocolate. Sometimes we watch several films back to back. DS loves it.

We like a good board game night. We get out the family trivial pursuit, or the disney one... sometimes a bit of Uno and we get a bit competitive!

Its great fun and it's proper interaction, Dd helps me sort snacks in the kitchen.

We make crackers and cheese, bits of salami and lots of nice nibbles and crisps.

Then we need something sweet, so we'll either have been really organised and went to the ice cream shop beforehand or we'll get a family sized bar of fruit and nut and scoff the lot.

Im a bit glad that the colder nights are drawing in... its the best for family evenings!

We love a proper sit down roast dinner, in our pjs, on a Friday night every few weeks ....the dcs get to stay up late and we all have time to have a proper chat and share stories from the week : it's the only time no one has to rush off anywhere, and it's lovely to relax and hang out all together. It's always a bit of a "greatest hits" meal - it's all about making everyone's favourites, not trying out new things! It's my absolute favourite time of the week :)

We've only just started to enjoy Saturday night's in with kids. However Dr who is still too late so we are recording it to watch earlier following week with treats and cuddles.

Saturday night is family movie night - religiously! Sweety bowls are made after dinner and the kids get to pick the film ' we either watch a new kid film on Amaxon Prime or an old favourite dvd.

We have a big family meal at the table and then the DC's choose something off Netflix to watch, the curtains get closed and popcorn and sweets make an appearance. We all generally fall asleep in front the TV snuggled in together.

We have family movie nights, everyone is very enthusiastic about these. Also... Sunday Roasts are a winner!

The best thing to get us gathered together at the moment is the new Dangermouse! DS, DD and OH all love it! :)

Like a pp, our family nights in are rather too often focused on Hedrin and the Nit Comb (sigh, I have 3 shaggy, sociable girls).

At other times, everyone likes a film night, but also we do elaborate dinner nights, everyone in the family likes cooking new meals.

We tend to be an outdoors oriented family though, as a whole family our preferred activities are going out more than staying in.

Film on, chocolate buttons and popcorn. My youngest tells us "no phones in the cinema" and we put them away. Blankets and cats and snuggles.

One ritual in our household is the Eurovision Song Contest - watched alongside a huge plate of homemade sushi with all the trimmings. It is such fun. Otherwise it is DVD night every Friday with snacks and chocs.
