Old Mutual Wealth has asked us to find out the best pieces of advice Mumsnetters have ever been given.

Here’s what they say, “Old Mutual Wealth is a big advocate of advice. In life and in financial matters, the guidance of someone you trust can make the difference between failure and success.”

So, what’s the best piece of advice someone's given you? Maybe someone has shared a genuinely life changing tip? Perhaps they passed on the secret on how to get your kids to clean their room/go to sleep/eat their greens. We’d also, more specifically, like to hear about the best financial piece of advice you’ve ever received. Whether it’s on how to save? Or maybe on what to do with your savings? Whatever they are, we’d love to hear them!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

Do something every day to better yourself. I find it's much more constructive than the incredibly vague "be yourself"!

Tonkatol · 13/10/2015 19:20

The best piece of advice I was given, and try my best to adhere to, was from my mum and she told me to "always treat others as you would want to be treated".

I try to remember this whether out shopping, at work, at home, with friends and even in difficult situations.

Today's news will be tomorrow's chip paper... and how true my mum was!

On everything from my Mum..

If you don't try, you'll never achieve. If you don't ask, the answer will always be no.

never judge a book by its cover, this has helped me in many situations and i believe it to be very true.

Pimmpom · 13/10/2015 21:04

Don't sweat the small stuff. Easier said than done but it really does help if you can get things in perspective and not worry about things that are not that important.

jonnysmith · 13/10/2015 21:08

Learn from other people's mistakes, you don't have enough time in your life to make them all yourself.

lynwestie · 13/10/2015 21:22

Always trust your own instincts - they will never let you down

toodles60 · 13/10/2015 21:23

My father once said "You should make your words sweet, because some times you have to eat them" Best piece of advice i ever received. I don't think i've ever said anything nasty to anyone even when inside i'm feeling pretty angry. In return i've never had anything horrible said to me. Oh and my nan once told me to 'never trust a beady eyed man' lol No idea what that means lol

Make the most pf every minute of your baby/child as they will grow up all too quickly and you never have that time again.

kats56 · 13/10/2015 22:16

You can't change how people feel about you so don't try. Just live your life and be happy.

Themilseys · 13/10/2015 22:37

Follow your instincts.

marshgirl · 13/10/2015 22:39

Treat others how you would like to be treated .
Same with respect.
Something that I face everyday when there are rude uncaring people around. Also something I teach my girl.

kelbly · 13/10/2015 22:41

To be myself.....it has taken many years for me to "believe" this, however for the last few months I have been myself and my confidence and happiness has increased!
