We've been asked by the team at MoneySuperMarket to find out about the weirdest things Mumsnetters have found when moving in to a new home, which the previous owners or tenants left behind.

MoneySuperMarket say "We know moving home can be a stressful experience and sometimes it can be accompanied a few unexpected and 'interesting' surprises at the other end! Whether you've recently moved home or not, we'd love to hear your stories on the thread below.

Also - for those of you in the process of moving right now, don't forget to check out our Home Mover's hub, where you'll find a wealth of articles, videos and tools designed to get you to your own personal 'Happily Ever After' just that little bit quicker..."

So, what weird or wonderful things have you found when moving? Maybe the previous owner of your house left behind a particularly impressive stamp collection? Or perhaps you found a stack of old diaries? Or maybe you found a wig hidden in the back of the wardrobe?

Whatever you've found, MoneySuperMarket would love to hear about it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw* where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher from Mumsnet.

Please note your comments may be included on MoneySuperMarket's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

We found some really dodgy porn in the top cupboard of one of the bedrooms! Worst part was that my mum and teenage brother were in the room with me when I found it, my brother still jokes that it was mine! Cringeworthy!

A very, scruffy and dirty teddy bear who was not only missing an ear but who's arm was hanging on by one thread!!

My husband thought I was mad (amidst the few hundred packing boxes) that I loving washed, restored, sowed the little thing back to like and gave him a rather lovely bow and bell round his neck and he now lies on my bed looking happy as punch!!

Solo · 27/09/2015 23:47

That's lovely striking I would have too!

We started on the garden when we moved in and found, to our surprise, a car! It was all broken into bits - we found a seat in the shed and attack, wing mirrors under the hedge, windscreen wipers being used as plant holders, various wires and metal chunks from a door buried in the mud and the engine was buried under the patio! Strange!

jaibaby · 27/09/2015 23:51

Meant attic, not attack!

My first house was a tiny one up-one down in a mountainous region of the UK (that did brilliantly in the Rugby last night). We had viewed the house a few times before moving in, but hadn't looked at the garden in too much detail. Our first night, we were looking around the small courtyard garden which had a sheer cliff behind it, probably 30ft at the top of the cliff there was a shed! checked our deeds and it was indeed our shed, completely inaccessible and useless! How the previous owners had got it there/ what it was used for we never knew as we were not prepared to risk the climb to get there. Bizarre!!!

Only moved once and nothing. But when viewing a mid terrace was surprised to find the middle reception room looking like Jackie Collins boudoir. It was the bathroom assuming move downstairs as owners been elderly. But thick pink shag pile carpet. Pink velvet chaise lounge, palm tree pot plants in there and so much more

brightongirl40 · 28/09/2015 00:37

A friend found two horse skeletons and an old car buried in his new garden!

IRIELADY · 28/09/2015 01:56

The previous owner's sex catalogues arriving in the post!

AnimalAddict · 28/09/2015 05:18

Locks on the outside of the bedrooms, I found that so weird..

chanice · 28/09/2015 08:56

Some crack down the side of the sofa and the landlords sons national insurance card.

nanoobaku · 28/09/2015 09:36

Serious a coffin in the loft with a label 'reduced' on it !! Couldn't believe it

meggysar · 28/09/2015 09:39

Has to be some swingers magazines that the previous owners (or I assume it was them) had left stuffed behind a wardrobe they'd left in one of the bedrooms.

sootyo · 28/09/2015 09:47

A bottle of very nice red wine on the doorstep, with a message written on a torn piece of cardboard to someone we had never heard of. A week later a man arrived at our door and introduced himself as a neighbour and asked for the bottle of wine ,claimimg it had been left on the wrong door step . Luckily we still had the wine and duly handed it over. We laughed about it for weeks, as new neighbours sometimes introduce themselves with a welcome gift, rather than asking for a gift.

embabes7 · 28/09/2015 09:48

I wanted treasure, and got absolutely nothing!!! What a disappointment! haha x

SoupDragon · 28/09/2015 09:50

Not so much something we found but a builders merchant tried to deliver a lorry load of bricks meant for the previous owner.

SoupDragon · 28/09/2015 09:55

Seeing Clam's post reminds me that there is a picture of a cats arse in the loft, drawn into some rendering when it was wet. It has "Speedy Williams" (I think) above it and the year, 1934.

A Box full of Coins - Precious one according to me - collected from all around the world! There were some pretty old coins in it! was quite impressive and priceless! For some strange reason, I don't really know why!, We found in the garden shed! while a flick of a second was bringing out the evil in me, the good woman still won with the help and influence of the good man at home! (I love him so much!..shh!! don't tell him, then the pride man in him will try to take advantage on me on everything then!! :) )

BlahBlahUsername · 28/09/2015 11:09

Initially the weirdest thing when we moved in was a grungy wheelie bin just sitting in the middle of the living room, full of rubbish. The former owners moved it indoors to keep ti safe for us!

Then when we got around to stripping the wallpaper we discovered that the walls were covered with angry messages about the other neighbours - the one I particularly remember is 'Hell Lives at No.19'. No19 are perfectly nice!

backinschool · 28/09/2015 11:17

There's some seriously weird stuff on here! The weirdest thing in our old house was the industrial security system the guy had installed. He had clearly found the equipment cheap somewhere - you could set about 12 different 'zones'. This in a house with 5 rooms! The strangest part was that although it was all set up it didn't have a bell/alarm connected.

emily13 · 28/09/2015 11:33

The worst was a pair of dirty knickers, the best, a cute pair of 50s egg cups with 'which came first?' and 'off with his head' written on them. This was in a bedsit I had when I was a teenager and I still have them on display in my kitchen.

VickyRsuperstar · 28/09/2015 12:06

When we moved in one house it was very badly decorated, in need of a lot of repairs and full of random furniture. All the doors in the house had damaged locks and the front door had obviously been changed, there was also a big hole in the floor boards when the carpet was pulled up and we soon noticed that the police either walked or drove by our house very regularly and then they often just sat there in the car just watching us! Eventually I had enough and went over and asked them and others in the street what was going on and it turned out that the previous people had had various run-ins with the law. The big hole in the floorboards was where their drug stash used to be hidden & all the doors locks had been broken in police raids!

Solo · 28/09/2015 12:23

Rishi79, it might be me, but I didn't really understand your post! Blush Grin

Flossiecrossie · 28/09/2015 12:33

I found an old photograph of a rather glum looking lady when we were ripping the old kitchen out. I thought she may have lived in the house at some part of its history, and decided her photo should remain in the house.

aussiegeckogirl · 28/09/2015 13:21

an incendiary device in the back garden, we had the police and special bomb disposal team come to the house to remove it safely
