We've been asked by the team at MoneySuperMarket to find out about the weirdest things Mumsnetters have found when moving in to a new home, which the previous owners or tenants left behind.

MoneySuperMarket say "We know moving home can be a stressful experience and sometimes it can be accompanied a few unexpected and 'interesting' surprises at the other end! Whether you've recently moved home or not, we'd love to hear your stories on the thread below.

Also - for those of you in the process of moving right now, don't forget to check out our Home Mover's hub, where you'll find a wealth of articles, videos and tools designed to get you to your own personal 'Happily Ever After' just that little bit quicker..."

So, what weird or wonderful things have you found when moving? Maybe the previous owner of your house left behind a particularly impressive stamp collection? Or perhaps you found a stack of old diaries? Or maybe you found a wig hidden in the back of the wardrobe?

Whatever you've found, MoneySuperMarket would love to hear about it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw* where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher from Mumsnet.

Please note your comments may be included on MoneySuperMarket's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

We pulled down the ceiling in the kitchen and a stash of old 'men's' magazines fell out. It was my dad who found them!

When we moved to our new home, our first home we bought together it was a horrible experience… the house was so dirty it was shocking but as we cleaned room after room, cupboard after cupboard we were finding a lot of “treasures” left behind… best thing was the entire wardrobe full of games, board games, about 30, maybe 40 of them or so… we still have most of them and use them for our family weekend time in.

2 huge dirty adult teeth on the windowsill of my sons bedroom. So creepy!

On the day our exchange went through, the previous keeners were still here when we arrived. They told me "anything left is for you". It included a bunch of flowers, a bottle of wine, half a jar of marmalade, a front room literally full of half-dead house plants, loads of fleas (I'm still annoyed by that one!) and a garage full of their old junk, they'd just left it! The most random thing I found a couple of weeks later was a fork inside one of the radiators Hmm

I found a photo montage on top of the wardrobe, with pictures of someone who appeared to be the previous owner's daughter. There was also a lingering smell of cat pee under the stairs!

Some of these are hilarious.

The previous owners of our house left a real (dead) Christmas tree. We moved into the house in August. Xmas Smile

A full length mirror in the en-suite. So when you stumble into the bathroom half awake in the morning you're faced with yourself naked & full sized in the mirror. It's not a pretty sight!!!

A road sign in the loft

NoisyOyster · 23/09/2015 11:59

When I bought my new build house three years ago, I found left on the kitchen surfaces in clear view, two old "antique-y narnia style" ornate keys. With no idea what they were meant to open.

I asked the builders, the estate agents, even the sales dept on site… no-one has been able to tell me where they came from or what they're for.

I've kept them hoping that one day I find the magical box, maybe in my next house?! which they belong to and the mystery will be solved….

Nothing weird really, but we moved into our new house about 2 months ago and it took over a month for us to find out that we have a huge rockery in one corner of the back garden. The garden is tiny, but it was so overgrown, we just couldn't see it!

Doodygirl2009 · 23/09/2015 14:47

In my old house we found someone's dirty underwear down the back of the central heating yuk

ISeeIt · 23/09/2015 19:23

Among the filthy mess we found in our last house was a number of odd socks, a salad spinner without the spinny part, about two hundred half full (/empty!) bottles of various types of booze and a pretty valuable record collection.

Leeanne2205 · 23/09/2015 20:04

Our dog picked up the previous owners vibrating bunny if you get my drift my 2 yr old then asked mummy what is that mortifying !!!

IdaClair · 23/09/2015 22:27

Two huge glass Christmas tree baubles, so heavy they take two people to lift them and can't actually hang on a tree!

Moved to most recent house, found two windows broken on the inside, a leaking gas pipe in the kitchen, and best of all we took out the bathroom sink and found a live plug socket behind it. Double socket. Not even switched to off before a skirting board was glued to it.

KBywaters · 24/09/2015 07:00

Old 1980s decor! Foam tiles on ceilings, really?

Flutterbutterfly · 24/09/2015 08:07

We found old bank books. 50 years worth plus lots of legal papers that documented the families legal battle of ownership of the house... Very interesting. Also £200.

mclarkie · 24/09/2015 10:36

Mushrooms growing through the kitchen ceiling, due to a flood in the flat above. the smell was horrific.

LizB62 · 24/09/2015 11:16

Not me, but one of my sisters found a handgun boxed in behind a fitted wardrobe - immediate call to the police, who came and took it away !

WhoTheFIsJeff · 24/09/2015 11:17

A huge old wooden trunk, fully lined, with leather straps to fasten it shut. It has printed writing on the top. I would love to know where it came from and how old it is.

HannahLI · 24/09/2015 11:37

We found a dusty pair of pants on top of one of the cupboards in the kitchen that was pretty surprising and weird!

piggypoo · 24/09/2015 12:19

A coffin that had been turned into a book case! The previous owner had bought it cheaply, and decided to get some use out of it before he popped his clogs! His wife didn't want him to bring it when they went, so it was left with us, we soon got rid of it though! Yuck! :)

SharonBotts · 24/09/2015 13:24

A fridge full of food! Previous owner had been taken ill on the day of completion and he was rushed to a doctor not ling before we arrived, leaving us with all their groceries!

angiehoggett · 24/09/2015 14:39

empty bottles in the toilet cistern!

matphil · 24/09/2015 15:41

A whole family of slugs in the house, there were hundreds everywhere.
