We've been asked by the team at MoneySuperMarket to find out about the weirdest things Mumsnetters have found when moving in to a new home, which the previous owners or tenants left behind.

MoneySuperMarket say "We know moving home can be a stressful experience and sometimes it can be accompanied a few unexpected and 'interesting' surprises at the other end! Whether you've recently moved home or not, we'd love to hear your stories on the thread below.

Also - for those of you in the process of moving right now, don't forget to check out our Home Mover's hub, where you'll find a wealth of articles, videos and tools designed to get you to your own personal 'Happily Ever After' just that little bit quicker..."

So, what weird or wonderful things have you found when moving? Maybe the previous owner of your house left behind a particularly impressive stamp collection? Or perhaps you found a stack of old diaries? Or maybe you found a wig hidden in the back of the wardrobe?

Whatever you've found, MoneySuperMarket would love to hear about it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw* where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher from Mumsnet.

Please note your comments may be included on MoneySuperMarket's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

When I moved into my first home I didn't find anything but that was the strange thing, they had removed every little thing from the house! Even the plug sockets and light fittings had been removed. All little nails or hooks were taken, anything you wouldn't normally think of removing from a house was gone. They made sure they left nothing!

This is things, as there were loads of them, but dressmaking pins stuck vertically into the textured part of the wallpaper. It made stripping the walls incredibly difficult.

Not weird but two wasp nest in the loft, pretty scary when you afford of them

clopper · 20/09/2015 18:40

Similar to this small head! A bit creepy. Found it in the loft and left it there when we moved.

One house had a cupboard full of really lovely glasses, nothing weird ever found thankfully.

There's always a random sock somewhere. It's turned into a game now, who can find it the quickest.
In one house,it was under the floorboard. Took us a while to find that one.

keshimonster · 20/09/2015 20:20

We found a green sandwich toaster in the back of a cupboard!

jayz268 · 20/09/2015 22:32

In our last home, in the attic, we found a large collection of old and very boring hardback fiction books. None of them were authors we knew and those we tried to read were tedious in the extreme.

wooohooo · 20/09/2015 22:41

A very old train set, left In the attic

Fantasyland · 20/09/2015 22:47

When moving into a flat in the living room was a traffic bollard being used as a lamp and a huge building company development sign being used as a picture across the full length of the room and bits of a car in the kitchen!

The guy who lived before us 'collected things' and the weird random things we found it was like steptoe and sons living room.

We actually kept the bollard for awhile.

We moved into a house at the start of the summer and it wasn't until the end of summer we noticed that we had never had to mow the lawn. Turns out a neighbour enjoyed gardening so much he would cut all his neighbours lawns and tend to the roses etc. Wouldn't take money for it but we would give his a nice Christmas present.

mrspremise · 21/09/2015 11:02

16 layers of wallpaper in the dining room that was like a journey through the history of wallpaper 'fashions'. Plus the wallpaper in another room that had been, er, nailed to the wall... Hmm and an extremely sinister-looking picture of a golden retriever glued to the back of the bathroom door.

AngelBlue12 · 21/09/2015 11:30

When we moved into our first flat we found a hand gun in the airing cupboard along with loads of drug paraphernalia - the police sent out a special unit to come and collect.

Nothing in the next two places but the attic was full at the house we live at now with pictures, a couple of broken tv's, a load of old coins, boxes of children's school work and other stuff I can't remember! Also a pair of nice hair straighteners in one of the bedrooms.

A washing machine that they'd promised to get rid of, a shed full of paint, spade etc, the contents of her baking cupboard (flour, food colouring etc.) and a full fridge, with milk and everything in it.

Turned out the previous owner was clearing the shed when a tin fell from a shelf and hit her on the head. Shock Her DS was old enough to drive so took her to the locak walk-in health centre whilst her teenage DD got the last bits they needed out of the house before the sale exchanged at 1pm.

The lady phoned later to apologise, and arranged to collect her mower, and told us to just bin the contents of the fridge

Oh, and when we made it up to the loft there were two rolls of carpet left by an owner at least 2 people before the lady with concussion (the carpets had psychodelic brown and green swirls on them - real 1970s throwbacks). We gave them to the local dogs' home for their kennels so they just need a glitterball now to complete the look

Knickers:-0

Shiraznowplease · 22/09/2015 06:07

When we moved into our first flat the owner had left everything (which was great as we had nothing) bedding, towels, cutlery, furniture, toiletries etc. they also lift a programme proposal for a bbc series

mapmyface · 22/09/2015 07:13

In the oven we found a grill tray complete with half cooked bacon and the tray full of congealed fat.
God knows how long it had been left there, or in what circumstances the previous owner had decided he didn't want bacon after all so had just left it. Vom

easter1965 · 22/09/2015 09:48

Not an object but when we moved in and started to strip the bedroom walls someone previously had painted "I was here" and my date of birth, day, month and year which really freaked me out and still does, bit too specific to be a coincidence

Emrob86 · 22/09/2015 10:35

We found some kind of ceramic decorative wall hanging that just looked like a fancy urinal... We binned it! :)

vic1981 · 22/09/2015 12:04

When we moved in we found a kitchen drawer filled with old cigarette butts. Which was a surprise....

Lulabellx1 · 22/09/2015 14:49

When we moved in to our house there were some hideous built in wardrobes in the bedroom. We ripped them out and behind them were some very LARGE knickers!! EURGH!!!!

jodiecrossley1 · 22/09/2015 14:58

Some old food cooked in a pan!

Cambam2010 · 22/09/2015 15:56

Everytime I move house my father jokes that there will be beds in the attic. There are always beds, bed frames or old mattresses in my lofts! I guess it is a convenient way of getting them out of sight without having to pay for removal but it does always make me think that the previous occupiers were into something dodgy and housed people in their lofts.

Damnfinecoffee · 22/09/2015 21:19

In a rented house a mahoosive bag of rice. Which the ex-tenants then turned up to fetch with a cloth shopping trolley thing.
There was also nice traps and rodent repellent under the sink which was nice Hmm
Growing up my parents found a picture in a lounge of the previous owner sitting in a chair in the same lounge. The chair had also been left which was incredibly spooky. They kept it up for a while....
