- Overall, what do you think of the BBC?
I really like it. We watch BBC 1 & 2 more than any other channels, and I think that quality wise it's far above any other privately run channel.
- Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?
The license fee does seem quite high in relation to what we get, but since iPlayer it's felt like the value is better. I would like to have more on demand - for example, the boxsets like Channel 4 do on 4OD, particularly of classic shows.
- What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?
More educational shows directed at a younger audience - we love the Christmas lecture, and I'd like to see more things like this throughout the year.
- What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?
Less spending on soap operas, which are widely available on other channels anyway.
- Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Mainly, yes. The nature documentaries are superb, and the radio channels are distinctive with great presenters. We're massive fans of Doctor Who and Strictly in this house, and the investment there has certainly paid off. However, the daytime shows are too formulaic (antiques, house buying, quiz shows) and are starting to feel a little tired.
- Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?
On the whole, yes, but the trust needs to ensure they don't rest on their laurels and keep pushing forward and innovating.
