We've been asked by the BBC Trust to find out what Mumsnetters would like to see from the BBC in future.

The BBC Trust says "Over the next eighteen months, really important decisions are being made about the future of the BBC. The Government is reviewing the BBC’s Royal Charter, the foundation on which the BBC is built. This happens once in a decade, so it’s a rare chance for you, who pay for the BBC, to have your say on its future."

Please let us know your answers to the questions below:

  • Overall, what do you think of the BBC?
  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?
  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?
  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?
  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?
  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Please also feel free to add any other comments you have. If you’d like to share more of your views on the future of the BBC you can complete the BBC Trust’s short survey: www.bbc.co.uk/tomorrowsbbc

Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher*

Thanks and good luck,

Overall, what do you think of the BBC?

Reliable, honest, old fashioned

current number is ok

  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?

make online content more accessible

  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?

saturday night tv

  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?

don't watch a lot so can't comment

  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?

don't watch a lot so can't comment

exLtEveDallas · 03/09/2015 18:08

Overall, what do you think of the BBC?

I think it is an outdated corporation that does not provide the shows that I choose to watch. I resent being forced to pay for a service that I do not use with the threat of jail hanging over me if I don't pay.

Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?

I do not think it is value for money. It probably provides 'enough' for the price you pay if you like that sort of thing, but if you don't (and I don't) then it shouldn't be charging at all. The BBC could easily move to a subscription model on a satellite platform and those that wish to subscribe would do so happily. People that do not watch BBC TV or listen to BBC radio should not be criminalised for not wanting to pay for something they do not use.

What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?

For me it would be to provide quality US TV shows, ones with a proven track record and following. If I have to pay, then show the stuff I want to watch.

What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?

Repeats of old, outdated sitcoms.

Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?

No. Daytime TV is dire and I'm sick to death of 'period dramas'

Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not

Not in any way. The BBC is staid, old fashioned and slow. There is no energy to its programmes, no innovation or new ideas.

Snoopadoop · 03/09/2015 18:11
  • Overall, what do you think of the BBC?

I love the BBC, my favourite programmes (TV and Radio) are all made by BBC. CBeebies and CBBC are first class. I trust the BBC when it comes to their news reporting and watch the BBC News channel and website daily. They have however made some pretty awful series recently Jamaica Inn was a disaster and that David Walliams and Jessica Raine, Agatha Christie thing was terrible.

  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?

Neither I think the BBC have it right.

  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?

I would like you to turn Cabin Pressure into a TV programme. On a serious note Radio 4 comedy, I really can't get enough of it.

  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?

They do far too many of those Homes under the Hammer style programmes. And I know I'm probably in the minority but if the BBC stopped making Eastenders and Casualty I'd be a very happy person.

  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Yes!

  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?

I'm not sure I'd describe it as distinctive and fresh sorry. Trustworthy, reliable, high quality yes but not distinctive and fresh I'm afraid. There's a lot of repetition in the programmes, even if it's unintentionally many series have he same feel.

Snoopadoop · 03/09/2015 18:17

Actually can I add that another thing that I think the BBC does well is events such as the Chelsea flower show, Wimbledon, World Cup, Remembetance Sunday etc... But some of the 'Royal' events coverage (Queens birthday and the like) have been awful. Really dreadful schmoozy rubbish.

Badders123 · 03/09/2015 18:23

Please let us know your answers to the questions below:

  • Overall, what do you think of the BBC?
I think it's marvellous. The BBC is the envy of the world.
  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?
I think it's good value. I use iplayer a lot.
  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?
Drama, history, children's TV.
  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?
Middle class comedy
  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Generally yes. No idea who commissioned my family and let it run for 300 series though. It just wasn't funny!
  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Yes. Channels like bbc3 me bbc4 show some really interesting and new content.
BrendaandEddie · 03/09/2015 18:24

i have nver ever met a foreigner who tells me they are jealous of the BBC

redshoeblueshoe · 03/09/2015 18:30

I don't love the BBC
I don't love: Eastenders, Casualty, Strictly, Bake Off, Sport. I could go on but my list maybe rather long.

However I do love The Archers although Rob the Knob needs a good smack and the SW's should follow the thread on here for some good ideas

sanfairyanne · 03/09/2015 18:32

I love the bbc and have met lots of foreigners who love it too. World service was great when we used to listen to it. I am happy we have one fairly neutral news service not owned by a tax exile megalomaniac or just megalomaniac. More quality dramas and documentaries, less trashy lowest common denominator programmes please

And no more programmes starring the children of 'celebrity cooks' or other examples of nepotism please

SouthWestmom · 03/09/2015 18:34

I like the idea of the BBC as a highbrow, intelligent, public service broadcaster funding obscure documentaries or educational, inspirational thibgs without need to pacify advertisers. I'm not sure this matches what we have now.

I think high quality. Should take precedence but I do think it needs to keep pace so online catch up and podcasts are essential.

Saturday evening drama for all the family

Less? Anything 'reality TV' based

High quality? I love radio four, I hate QI, I'm not sure it has consistency in its quality

Lack of ad breaks makes it consistently recognisable and helps continuity. Not sure about fresh - radio 1 is soooo tired.

Strawclutching · 03/09/2015 19:16

Overall, what do you think of the BBC?

Totally fantastic. Local radio is something to be proud of and treasured. News, sport etc are spot on. I live bbc dramas and documentaries and would actually pay more for the license fee.
Not massively keen on bbc3 though.

  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?

As it is. I think if it provided more then quality would lessen.

  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?

Making use of local resources. Using and crediting local radio and TV.

  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?

Bbc three

  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Yes. I can think of very few programmes which scrimp on quality and content.

  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Yes there's nothing like it in the world. I'm proud of it.

CopperPan · 03/09/2015 19:36
  • Overall, what do you think of the BBC?
I don't tend to watch much TV or listen to a lot of radio so I am not a big user of BBC services, but I think the programming is good quality even if it doesn't appeal to me personally. I like the BBC web services and use BBC news and weather daily.
  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?
I'd like to see more services, especially online.
  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?
Documentaries
  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?
Reality TV, game shows
  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Mostly yes
  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?
I find it distinctive but I see it as a British institution and not really fresh.
Shallishanti · 03/09/2015 19:40

Overall, what do you think of the BBC?
I love the BBC! I consider it excellent value for money

  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?
like I said, I think it's good value for money as it is- possibly it doesn't suit other demographics as well (middle class middle aged person here)- I find iplayer esp good
  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?- maybe more child friendly radio would be good eg story time, child friendly documentaries?
  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of? I don't especially like the light entertainment side of their output (with the exception of GBBO which is fab)- and I can't abide you and yours, but that's OK I don't expect to like everything
  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not? Yes I do. In particular- serious drama - esp when historical- who is going to make Wolf Hall if not the BBC, in addition, major wildlife series must be superexpensive to make but are very important. Also the less commercial comedy.
  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not? Err...distinctive, I suppose so (see above) ...not sure what 'fresh' means in this context...
Shallishanti · 03/09/2015 19:45

every so often they do something amazing that just wouldn't be commercially viable
I'm thinking of the 'killed by my boyfriend' programme which I hope has been made compulsory viewing in all high schools

  • this is why we need the BBC- it's not just about keeping us 'entertained'
mummytime · 03/09/2015 19:47
  • Overall, what do you think of the BBC?
I love the BBC. Its far superior to what most countries have.
  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?
I like what it provides. Wish it hadn't had to reduce its Bitesize, which was really useful.
  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?
More investigative and in depth news reporting. With more news from more places. I don\'t really like the trivial stories or keep telling the same one over and over. Royal babies are less important than famine, war, politics, etc.
  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?
I would have said cliquey radio 1 but its got better in the last year. Less self referential programmes stories, and interviews with their own Journalists especially outside vaguely linked buildings.
  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Yes. Because I've seen TV in the US - where the news is minimal (on one holiday for 2 weeks it was about a Hurricane; as it formed, where it would hit, where it moved to hit, the aftermath, and what local people were doing about it: and puff stories like one about a local billboard where half a poster had come off and it was indecent). The BBC have great dramas, try risky and innovative projects. Who doesn't feel European when Eurovision is on?
  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Yes - it tries things that would be hard to sell in a purely commercial world eg. Dr Who, Documentaries, Radio Drama. It also causes other programme makers in this country to raise their game eg. Morse, and even the rivalry between X Factor and Strictly.
lolapops1 · 03/09/2015 20:08
  • Overall, what do you think of the BBC?
It's ok some good dramas on there, don't watch it much though.
  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?
I don't think there should be a licence fee but if there is they should provide a lot more services for it.
  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?
Original dramas. Filmed in this country.
  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?
Sending lots of journalists to cover the same thing i.e glastonbury.
  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?
No more high quality than other tv channels.
  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Not distinctive or fresh. A lot of repeats.
Theimpossiblegirl · 03/09/2015 20:33

Overall, what do you think of the BBC? I like the BBC, i watch it a lot.

  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee? About the same
  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?
More dramas, sometimes I feel that there really is nothing on.
  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?
I'd like them to cut back on things like sending so many people to Glastonbury. It seems to be a big jolly for them at the licence payers expense.
  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Yes, but there are never enough episodes of good things- Dr Who, Sherlock, for example.
  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Yes, at times, but there are a lot of things I wouldn't bother watching. I do think the licence fee could be reduced, I'm not bothered by adverts.
nooddsocksforme · 03/09/2015 21:06

Overall, what do you think of the BBC? I love the BBC bot not sure my 2 ds (both in their 20s ) would ever notice ifit didnt exist anymore, so the problem is not with my age group

  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee? In this day and age the licence fee is not huge and I think they do well with it . But relying only on this money must limit whatcan be acheived
-What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of? I love several things they do-the soaps , strictly but they need more edgy dramas like the shadow line and line of duty which were amazing. Both on BBC2 when I think with better promotion they could rival some of the shows on sky living etc
  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of? trying to copy commercial stuuf from other channels-eg the voice trying to update on x-factor but failing
  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not? as above they do some excellent dramas but need to have the confidence not to dumb down to mush and think they can be too commercial
  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, sadly only very occasionally when they stick to high class dramas and great radio programmes . Not when they are copying other stations. They need to appeal more to a younger audience with better back up and drama series like line of duty but with more promotion
lorelei9 · 03/09/2015 21:18

Answering questions in order

  • Overall I think the bbc is good but trying to do too much

-I'd prefer fewer services for a lower licence fee

-More original drama

-Less reality TV, less news analysis which seems to be on overload

-Quality is patchy, some dramas are excellent but documentaries seem to have been dumbed down unless they are on bbc4.

-I don't think the bbc is any more or less fresh and distinctive than other major channels

AGnu · 03/09/2015 22:14

- Overall, what do you think of the BBC?
I mostly like it.

- Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?
I only get to watch things on iPlayer these days because I'm never able to watch anything live. That & the radio are the only things I use. I think it could work to have people who don't have a licence pay just to watch individual programmes - there could be a system of paying per programme, series or month for things like EastEnders that are ongoing. That would also give the BBC an idea of what people really wanted to watch.

- What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?
Family friendly shows. We've enjoyed watching Big Blue Live with our pre-schoolers & would like a few more programmes that are primarily aimed at adults that wouldn't be inappropriate for younger viewers. My 3yo w/ ASD has limited patience for a lot of the nature shows aimed at his age but has watched March of the Penguins, Wild China & Big Blue Live & been mesmerised by all of them.

- What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?
Stupid comedy programmes. They were mostly on BBC3 anyway but I think other channels can cater for that genre & the BBC should be focussing more on producing good quality documentaries & dramas. I quite like HIGNFY, QI & Pointless though.

- Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?
For documentaries, definitely. Other things, not so much.

- Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?
I think the brand has got muddied in recent years where there have been attempts to bring in the youth audience with a lot of the BBC3 programmes. There were some that I enjoyed when I was a "youth" but most of them were just trashy & seemed to be there purely to fill the space. We love the documentaries & some of the dramas Poldark & The Musketeers. We also enjoy Doctor Who, Strictly although it could do with less of the swirling cameras so we can actually see their dancing without getting motion sick & New Tricks. Oh, & EastEnders, especially EastEnders. If I were running the BBC, these are the things I'd be focussing on & looking to refine exactly who the BBC are & being proud of that, not trying to cater for absolutely everyone. Also, I'd put Bob Harris in charge of a country radio channel & hire Reginald D Hunter to do lots more programmes like his series exploring Southern music. I loved that one!

ChoccyJules · 03/09/2015 22:57
  • Overall, what do you think of the BBC?

I think the brand is trusted and is part of daily life in the UK.

  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?

It's probably about right, they have already tried to cut radio stations/tv channels to public outcry, so they couldn't really hope to provide less and providing more would ramp up the fee.

  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?

Good quality documentaries, not necessarily more of, but keep doing them

  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?

The One Show. Sits very uncomfortably with the rest of the output. Awful, dumbed-down vibe.

  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Mostly (see above). People trust the BBC. Programmes generally feel well-made. Talk radio presenters can be variable in terms of background knowledge and interviewing technique (I listen to FiveLive a lot).

  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not? Distinctive in that it is the BBC, ie the national organisation. Usually quality productions. Not always fresh, when they try to do that it can look weak or out of place, as if they are trying to be what they're not (ie The One Show) and they do milk certain series to death (Strictly).
overthemill · 04/09/2015 00:12
  • Overall, what do you think of the BBC?
Excellent provider of top quality news programmes, a good mix of broad 'entertainment' and lifestyle programmes (not all of which I like or watch) and brilliant drama. Plus Radio 4 and other radio. It also provides the first watch again/ listen again service via iplayer ( and the new radio app) and has pushed the boundaries for internet based content. I love it!
  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?
I think they should continue to provide the services as they are BUT I think that if you cannot provide a valid postcode linked TV licence you should not be able to use Iplayer without paying a subscription. I think BBC should allow people outside if UK to subscribe to iplayer. I think the licence fee probably isn't sufficient though to continue as it is - which is regrettable in my opinion.
  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?
High quality drama on TV and better drama on radio 4. The Afternoon Play is shocking and I almost always turn it off! I am appalled by some of the commissioning decisions. I think that the same old writers/ companies get commissioned.
  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?
Top Gear type programmes. Stand up Comedy. Dancing programmes. Talent completions. Basically revamp Saturday night! Pack BBC4 with better/ more drama and quality documentaries.
  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Yes in the main with the reservations already expressed. It's worth the licence fee for the Proms alone
  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not
Not sure if I would use the word 'fresh' but it is distinctive definitely.
LostMySanityCanIBorrowYours · 04/09/2015 00:37

Overall, what do you think of the BBC?

I actually really dislike the BBC. I resent having to pay for a service I do not want, did not ask for and do not use.

Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?

Neither. I think it should change to an opt in service, allowing those who don't use it to stop paying towards those who do.

What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?

More programming aimed at a younger audience and as a pp suggested good quality, proven american shows.

What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?

Period drama

Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?

No, I find it to be very samey in content, too much period drama and misery soaps.

Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not

I'd always thought it was aimed at an older, middle class audience. I'd never realised it was aiming to be fresh and distinctive, so I'd have to say no. Grey is how I'd describe the BBC, tbh.

ipsos · 04/09/2015 00:39
  • Overall, what do you think of the BBC?

I think it's great.

  • Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?

I think it would be good if it could stick to core functions and do them really well. e.g. one or two good news shows a day, but put them on iplayer, the weather, the great factual stuff like David Attenborough programmes, great programmes for social cohesion and frugality like the Great British Bake-off, and great children's programmes like "come outside". I think it would be wonderful to give us access to old shows for much longer than the iplayer allows, but I'm not sure how this would be paid for. I think that they should cut right back on excessive useless things like 24 hour news.

  • What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?

I would like to see them cut right back on volume of production and concentrate on quality. So produce smaller amounts of higher quality tv for thinking people, with steady (non-wobbly) camera work and no sensationalist rubbish like constant cut-aways and funny camera angles and ticker-tapes. I'm not totally sure which tv is from the BBC and which is not these days. To be honest, I have almost no idea how to find anything on tv because there are so many channels. I mostly just watch boxed sets from the 80s and current CBeebies stuff, which is great.

  • What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?

Wobbly camera work. I can't watch wobble camera work because it makes me motion sick. I haven't watched the Eurovision song contest for years because of that and I really miss it.

Also 24 hour news, which seem expensive and pointless.

  • Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Yes, in the main I think it is. I only watch Cbeebies but most of it is great. It could do with being a wee bit calmer. Everything is so hyped up these days. A bit less like Treefu Tom and a bit more like Mr Ben and Come Outside. But in the main, yes I think it's all great.

  • Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?

I don't want it to be fresh. I want it to be just like it always was - good tv, thoughtfully made, for thinking people. Everytime it tried to be fresh it just strays away from the great stuff that it was doing so well all along and I think that's a bad idea.

Terry Wogan and Open All Hours and the Beechgrove Garden had it nailed years ago and I don't see any need to change that.

Baconyum · 04/09/2015 01:36

Overall, what do you think of the BBC?

For the most part I respect the BBC and like the news, factual programmes, some quizzes and dramas. But its slipping in its 'impartiality' remit particularly with regard to the language and coverage of the refugee crisis and some of the election coverage during the general election was odd.

Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?

Depends on the service. While I've enjoyed some of the programmes on bbc3 I don't think it's what the BBC is all about. Those programmes should fit into the schedules on 1 or 2. I'm also sceptical about the need for radio 1x again radio 1 should be able to manage to incorporate different genres and tastes musically and has become too bland and chart focussed. Definitely need to improve iPlayer. Various technical issues go unaddressed and not enough programmes put on it.

What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?

Good original dramas,

like Sherlock, Dr who and Torchwood, holby and casualty, Luther, Rome, Ballykisssangel, Bergerac, Silent witness, Dalziel and pascoe, Our girl, death in paradise, house of Eliot (fantastic show!), hustle, life on mars/ashes to ashes (also fantastic),

Adaptations of novels from Moll Flanders to Agatha Christie, Philippa Gregory etc

Documentaries Inc science (agree with a pp re dumbing down same applies to some of the history shows too)

Consumer and news based shows

More quizzes like uni challenge, mastermind, LOVE only connect hate eggheads (too slow, too much discussion - is this down to poor editing? questions stupidly easy come on you can do better)

What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?

Light entertainment really not your forte nobody's good at everything. Also those awful lottery shows!!

Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not? for the most part the exception being what I said to do less of, shows like flog it are pretty poor.

Saints and scroungers - really? Tabloid journalism at its worst, channel 5 fodder.

Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Depends on the time of year and programme. But its not what I want from the BBC, excepting things like Sherlock and the Dr who reboot.

barricade · 04/09/2015 02:09

Overall, what do you think of the BBC?
The BBC has been a national institution since it was formed. They have consistently delivered a wide range of high quality programming content, on radio, television and online. There is something suitable for all age groups, and programming has evolved over the decades to meet the expectations of diverse and changing audiences. The real negative is the ever-increasing TV Licence fee - the BBC needs to incorporate external advertising into its programming to generate additional revenue, and bring an end its license fee once and for all.

Do you think the BBC should provide more or less services (e.g. TV, online, iPlayer, radio) for the licence fee?
More services, definitely. Or better still, bring an end its license fee once and for all. As stated above, they can incorporate external advertising into their programming to generate additional revenue.

What one thing would you like to see the BBC do more of?
The 'Bitesize' and Revision guides for school children are fantastic. This is an area that can be expanded and broadened to cover more topics and subject concepts. Additionally, they need to fight for the European club football 'Champions League' live broadcasting rights, as well as rights to broadcast live Premier League games.

What one thing would you like the BBC do less of?
Less fee being charged for the licence.

Do you think what the BBC provides is high quality? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Yes - As stated above, they have consistently delivered a wide range of high quality programming content, on radio, television and online. There is something suitable for all age groups, and programming has evolved over the decades to meet the expectations and enjoyment of diverse and changing audiences.

Do you think the BBC is distinctive and fresh? If yes, why? If not, why not?
The BBC is very distinctive as it has been a national institution since it was formed, and is enjoyed around the world via the BBC World Service as well as the new channels such as BBC USA. It has bold new programming content, and incredibly popular 'old' shows, such as Doctor Who, Match Of The Day and Eastenders, which have been around for decades. However, they need to take a real deep look at the running of their institution and simultaneously recover from all the negativity surrounding BBC presenters and celebrities past and present who have been embroiled in controversy and crime (Jimmy Saville, David Lee Travis, Stuart Hall, Jeremy Clarkson, etc.) And no one has forgotten the fiasco when Lord McAlpine was wrongly accused of paedophilia as a result of a Newsnight investigation.
