We’ve been asked by the team at LEGO® to find out about our Mumsnetters’ favourite treats and rewards from their childhood.

What sort of treats and rewards did you get during your childhood? Maybe you were given a chocolate bar for good school work? Or perhaps you received small toys as a reward for good behaviour? If you were a child today, what would be your ideal treat or reward? Perhaps it didn’t even exist when you were a child?

Either way, whatever childhood treats and rewards you loved before or would love now, LEGO® would like to hear about them!

Please share your thoughts on this thread and be in with the chance to win a £300 Love2Shop Voucher. Every MNer who posts a comment will be entered into the prize draw where one MNer will win the £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Our reward for good behaviour when I was between 7 and 10 was 5p to spend at the shop. The shop was a good 20 minutes away across fields, the other side of the village. Not only did we get 5p worth of sweets (probably a lolly and a blackjack) but we got 40 minutes out and about and the excitement of shopping too. Nowadays people don't let kids that age go that far becuase we're all to fearfull.

Books, couldn't get enough of them

Rebecca361 · 06/08/2015 22:36

I was given change for the tuck shop and would spend it on baked bean flavour 'Piglets'. I also used to collect stamps towards a book in the school bookshop. I always loved to read so the book tokens were a good reward.

I used to always have a packet of Rolos after school. When I was really good I was allowed into WHSSmith to choose a book.

Kinder Surprise Eggs, still works now with my own kids :)

Digital1 · 06/08/2015 23:15

20p to spend at the corner shop on sweets.

matphil · 06/08/2015 23:18

A bar of chocolate was my reward as a child and that would be what I would choose today if I was a child as well.

Rewards: none. Good behaviour was expected all the time.

Treats: sweets were on ration and money very tight at the beginning of the 1950s but a 1d packet of broken crisps was a real treat and I savoured every bit making a bag last as long as possible :)

knitnut24 · 06/08/2015 23:28

A packet of Silvermints and the 'Topper' every Wednesday.

glasgowlass · 06/08/2015 23:28

A book or some wool to make wee corn dolls. I was easily pleased as a child!

My dad used the good old reward chart. I would get stars for keeping my room tidy, doing the washing up, feeding the dog etc. I would have "Bonus" stickers for good work from school or anything extra that he thought I deserved one for. If i got a minimum number - say 10, by the end of the week, then I was given a treat. Maybe Fish and chip dinner, extra pocket money or a video (VHS LOL) with nibbles.

It worked so well for me that I use it wit my kids, their reward now revolves around getting Xbox time LOL

lisanorfolk · 07/08/2015 00:06

That would have to be chocolate, we used to get bought Chocolate Icy Cups :) They were lush

Wendles80 · 07/08/2015 00:11

I didn't have rewards, it was pocket money "to be earned" although during my GCSE's I was told i'd get £50 for every c or above I got which was a pretty good incentive I can tell you! :-)

kimmy393 · 07/08/2015 00:35

My mum used to give me jelly tots as rewards my dad would give us small change

helcrai · 07/08/2015 00:36

My childhood treat for doing well in a school report or just for behaving even, would be my choice of sweets from the local shop. If it was at the end of the school year I could choose a day trip out such as the beach or cinema. Nowadays my kids automatically expect a gift for good school reports and day trips out are given to be the rule rather than the exception over summer. I blame peer pressure- some kids I know were given iPads for good school reports!

bc1616 · 07/08/2015 01:51

Dolls, I loved pippa dolls and loved dressing them up

GeorgeW78 · 07/08/2015 03:53

I didn't really get rewards but if there was a special occasion it'd be a quarter of something from the corner shop or a pocket money toy from the mix & match bins near the till in the toy shop! When I was older it was a book from the discount bookshop in town or maybe a magazine if we weren't going to town.

whitbyranger · 07/08/2015 06:30

A tube of Murray Mints on a Friday night. (My mother got a packet of Best English Mints at the same time).

redstararnie76 · 07/08/2015 07:42

It was always books for me -I remember being taken to WHSmith when I had been really good and getting to pick out a book or two, I loved them!

wendymurray3 · 07/08/2015 08:54

I used to love my weekly treat of "Twinkle" magazine and the cut out clothes you used to get inside the mag. Spent hours and hours dressing and re-dressing Twinkle:)

fifimummy · 07/08/2015 09:03

I used to get a little pack of Panini Care Bear stickers if i'd been reeeeeaalllly well behaved :)

Merrylegs · 07/08/2015 09:15

I loathed piano so when I passed my exam it was a real achievement and as a reward my dad bought me my first ever LP. I was in Woolies and couldn't decide between Abba's Greatest Hits (gatefold sleeve) and David Soul's debut album. My dad said 'in 30 years time I bet you will still be listening to ABBA but no one will be listening to David Soul'. Wise man my dad.

VickyRsuperstar · 07/08/2015 09:19

I used to live with my grandma and after doing the chores to help her I was allowed to make myself a Sodastream drink which I really loved. We had little glass bottles which we filled with water and then added the gas. I usually had a choice of ginger ale, ginger beer, bitter lemon or lemonade. Other times she would let me have an aniseed ball sweet or two out of a little tin.
Now I'm older I still love fizzy drinks and aniseed balls, but my idea of a treat is to get a few mins peace and quiet to myself as it's such a rare commodity!

robyn297 · 07/08/2015 09:38

We were treated to family days out.
