We’ve been asked by the team at LEGO® to find out about our Mumsnetters’ favourite treats and rewards from their childhood.

What sort of treats and rewards did you get during your childhood? Maybe you were given a chocolate bar for good school work? Or perhaps you received small toys as a reward for good behaviour? If you were a child today, what would be your ideal treat or reward? Perhaps it didn’t even exist when you were a child?

Either way, whatever childhood treats and rewards you loved before or would love now, LEGO® would like to hear about them!

Please share your thoughts on this thread and be in with the chance to win a £300 Love2Shop Voucher. Every MNer who posts a comment will be entered into the prize draw where one MNer will win the £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

I used to get a pound a week pocket money which I used to spend on fruit salad sweets every week lol :-)

jennywren7 · 06/08/2015 11:38

I used to get 50 pence a week pocket money, so every two weeks I could afford to go and buy a single on vinyl at Woolworths. Such a treat!

A few new arts/crafts things. A new pack of pencils/pens or a couple of the scraperfoil sets. I loved the scraperfoils and still do them now Grin

whizzybop · 06/08/2015 12:08

Clothes for my Pippa doll was my favourite treat from my Ma or a good story book and my Grandma used to get me pineapple rock on a Saturday for helping her with the baking.
If I were a child today my treat would still be a good book :)

emily13 · 06/08/2015 12:37

books were my treat, from the library sale

Pimmpom · 06/08/2015 13:01

Bunty comic and box of maltesers instead of fireworks. Used to sit at the window watching other people's fireworks with my maltesers. Grin

My Dad's a typical Dad. Play fights and tickles were his thing but when he bought me home a fudge chocolate bar I knew I was in the good books. Little things!!

I don't really want for much these days (aside from a lotto win and extravagance) but maybe I'd love a energy burst as a reward these days! Can't you tell the summer hols are in full force!

Sometimes my mum would bring me a gorgeous yummy meringue back from the town when she had been shopping it was wonderful and I felt like the queen bee when I got one. :)

andy07 · 06/08/2015 13:48

A quarter of sherbert pips. I used to make them last for ages

jrhcomps · 06/08/2015 13:53

I used to get a new book or magazine as a reward.

keshimonster · 06/08/2015 13:54

clairewilko29 · 06/08/2015 14:16

ellie17 · 06/08/2015 14:52

ha2el · 06/08/2015 15:32

Sweets and chocolate. My fillings are an ongoing testament.

aussiegeckogirl · 06/08/2015 15:49

a glass of lemonade with some vanilla ice cream put in, have not had that for years!

bextow · 06/08/2015 16:10

I used to love those pretend stamp sets, you'd get some envelopes, writing paper & pretend stamps. Also the Postman Pat stationary that somebody else mentioned. Plus I used to get a quarter of sweets, my favourite being jelly wellies or caramel maids.

Scungybear · 06/08/2015 16:23

A 10p mixup bag of sweeties was a real treat - or books, I loved Enid Blyton. I work as a nursery teacher now, and we have a class reward system, where when someone is good, they get to put a pom-pom in our pot, and when we have 20 pom-poms the whole class gets a treat -when I ask the children what they want, they almost always ask for sweets, biscuits or crisps!

TeddyBear2015 · 06/08/2015 16:25

I loved Sylvania Families!

We were actually a big Lego family and my mum still has all our sets for when my LO is old enough not to put it in his mouth. She still has all the play mobile too! We used to build entire cities and spend all the school holidays playing with them and making up stories!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 06/08/2015 16:36

A great aunt got me a subscription to "Lucky Rider" - I used to look forward to that arriving in the post specially for me
Also remember hearing the ice-cream van, especially stopping outside my Granny's house. She'd always give us a few pennies to go and get an ice-cream. I used to choose a cider lolly and consider myself very sophisticated Grin
I still like getting a couple of favourite magazines on subscription and you can't go wrong with an ice-cream either - chocolate or sorbets are my favourite these days, from the Italian run cafe in the park

mumpetuk · 06/08/2015 16:50

Sherbet dips!

ChuckieD · 06/08/2015 16:50

A Chinese takeaway. It was quite a rare event at our house so it was awesome when we got those lovely sweet and sour chicken balls and special fried rice. Also, sponge and custard after dinner on a Sunday watching Sunday night TV. Happy times.

balloon66 · 06/08/2015 17:39

getting to stay up late and watch starsky and hutch- showing my age here :)

topgunmatt · 06/08/2015 17:58

I loved Fruit Salad chews, they were a great treat

kimthomasandaimee · 06/08/2015 18:01

Ours were always chocolate based, biscuits or sweets XD

aurorablues · 06/08/2015 18:04

If i was good, my folks would give me a fiver to spend in Tescos on whatever i wanted when they went shopping early eve on a Friday.

They would leave me in the book/magazine/toy/stationary area (which would never happen done these days) whilst i picked what i wanted and they would go and do the shopping in peace.

By the time they had finished i would have found what i wanted and saved a little bit to get myself a Kit Kat and a packet of scampi flavour Nik Naks.

Those were the days when a fiver bought you quite a bit lol :D
