We’ve been asked by the team at LEGO® to find out about our Mumsnetters’ favourite treats and rewards from their childhood.

What sort of treats and rewards did you get during your childhood? Maybe you were given a chocolate bar for good school work? Or perhaps you received small toys as a reward for good behaviour? If you were a child today, what would be your ideal treat or reward? Perhaps it didn’t even exist when you were a child?

Either way, whatever childhood treats and rewards you loved before or would love now, LEGO® would like to hear about them!

Please share your thoughts on this thread and be in with the chance to win a £300 Love2Shop Voucher. Every MNer who posts a comment will be entered into the prize draw where one MNer will win the £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

A day out was my favourite and a regular treat was a new walkman or stationary.

helly27 · 05/08/2015 13:18

Stickers for my Royal Family sticker album, I managed to complete it using a bundle bought from a car boot sale in the end

chrissie82 · 05/08/2015 13:19

If I had behaved myself I used to get a copy of 'Jackie' magazine and a quarter of Kola Kubes to see me through the weekend Grin

sileas451 · 05/08/2015 14:14

On a Friday, for tea, if we were good, we'd go into the town and get a chippy and a bottle of Irn-Bru. Sounds so simple now (and unhealthy!) but I used to live for a Friday night!

LizzieMMM · 05/08/2015 14:33

My best treat was steak and kidney pudding with tinned spaghetti - hmm, I might have grown out of that one...

cootuk · 05/08/2015 15:21

we had a cadburys mini chocolate bar machine, so we got a coin to put in that and get a small bar

Lucycami92 · 05/08/2015 15:32

If I was well behaved on a Friday sometimes my big sis would buy me a bag of penny sweets on her way out for the evening. She'd fib and tell me she was going to the park where the fairies lived in the woods to ask them to bring me a treat. In the morning the paper bag would be on the end of my bed with tiny writing on it!! Used to believe it was fairies for years!! Grin

A 10p mix or lolly or the money to buy them with were my favourite things. I've such a sweet tooth!

Kangakate · 05/08/2015 20:05

We'd be allowed a choc ice after dinner

angiem32 · 05/08/2015 20:50

As a child if I was good for the week, my dad would take me out on a Monday for a 'treat day'! We'd either go swimming or to the park or for some other fun activity and then we'd go to McDonalds where I could have my favourite Happy Meal!
For getting good marks at school sometimes I would be treated to a new toy but not on a regular basis - I enjoyed days out more I think than actual food or toys as I've always loved experiencing and trying new things!
I think it would be the same if I was a child today!

lilmiztam22 · 05/08/2015 21:06

I used to have a sticker chart that I would save up all my stickers for being good to get a toy, I saved them all up once for a keyboard and loved it! If I was a child today I'd want some of the cool toys that are out these days

Crown · 05/08/2015 21:27

If I had been well behaved I would be rewarded with a toy or chocolate of some sort.

Whyisitsodifficult · 05/08/2015 21:31

Every week my sister and I would be given 50p to spend at the newsagents. How I loved getting my little white paper bag with 50 pence worth of rhubarb and custards, strawberries and creams or cola cubes! Not sure you'd get many for 50p today!

Whyisitsodifficult · 05/08/2015 21:36

50p to spend at the newsagents. I loved getting my little white paper bag, rhubarb and custards, strawberries and creams or cola cubes. Or a Beano comic!

baconbap · 05/08/2015 21:50

jaconelli's icecream - the yellow one

amandaleeds · 05/08/2015 22:25

It has to be Woolworths pic n mix! That was always a treat.

I do also remember getting a My Little Pony to cheer me up when I'd been sick for days!

lucyrobinson · 05/08/2015 22:29

When I was younger if I was good mum would treat me to a new pair of socks. Another treat was some Hubba Bubba gum. Loved it. x

Lariflete · 05/08/2015 22:32

On the first day of our holidays, we would get taken to Woolworths as a treat for 'being good and doing well at school'.
We would spend ages choosing new toys and some sweets. We didn't get given a lot of treats during the year outside of birthdays and Christmas ( we were extremely envious of the children at school who got sweets weekly / daily!) but looking back this made those treats even more special.

janemphoto · 05/08/2015 22:44

Not really got any rewards as such, just birthdays and Christmas and occasional treats like cinema etc. I loved going to see films.

xxgeexx · 05/08/2015 22:59

i loved going to the library with my mum too get a book i lived off Roald Dahl as a child x

buckley1983 · 05/08/2015 23:09

I remember my Dad buying me a copy of 'The Railway Children' as a reward for quitting my awful nail biting habit - I was so chuffed! I still have it now!
I'd probably still like a book as a reward now.. I have spent many a happy hour wandering around Waterstones. It's a rare pleasure I can share with little one as they have a great play area for kids.. although this does mean my browsing is limited to the kids section so it's usually him that gets the reward, not me!

maplepecanpie · 05/08/2015 23:40

Lollipops from M&S! They were circle-shaped, flat, hard, white lollies with a picture of fruit on either side. They came in packs at the till. My mum would buy me a pack if I behaved in town!

chr1ssy0908 · 06/08/2015 05:26

My parents knew I was mad about jelly tots so all my rewards were based around them!

jayz268 · 06/08/2015 07:18

Books were always my favourite treat.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 06/08/2015 09:14

On my birthday we'd go and see a show in the west end Smile still love to do that now! Grew up in a poor household and this was an amazing treat (no holidays etc)
