We’ve been asked by the team at LEGO® to find out about our Mumsnetters’ favourite treats and rewards from their childhood.

What sort of treats and rewards did you get during your childhood? Maybe you were given a chocolate bar for good school work? Or perhaps you received small toys as a reward for good behaviour? If you were a child today, what would be your ideal treat or reward? Perhaps it didn’t even exist when you were a child?

Either way, whatever childhood treats and rewards you loved before or would love now, LEGO® would like to hear about them!

Please share your thoughts on this thread and be in with the chance to win a £300 Love2Shop Voucher. Every MNer who posts a comment will be entered into the prize draw where one MNer will win the £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Every Thursday after mum finished work we were allowed a takeaway from the chip shop, then on a Friday we would go to the sweet shop and get a bar of chocolate and a magazine. This went on for years always thought it was fantastic !! I loved Thursdays the best :)

Fruit salad , Blackjacks. Sherbert dibdabs.

Mandahul · 06/08/2015 18:23

I remember my Nan treating us to a MacDonalds. We used to share nuggets between my sisters and I, but if we were really good or did something good at school, we would be allowed to go alone and get a whole pack of nuggets to our selves :)

for me it was toasted marshmallows on the open fire along with a cup of milky hot chocolate. Family times were the best and will treasure forever. For my son they are toasted outside on the fire pit just like my parents did for me

ice cream, always ice cream :D

kel1981 · 06/08/2015 19:13

we had "sweetie day" when I was younger which was a Friday night and we were allowed two packets of sweets. I always picked choc bars (loved wispas!) but that was the only time we were allowed sweets - once a week!

krnries · 06/08/2015 19:32

I don't remember getting anything as a reward, but I do remember we used to go to friends of my mum's every Wednesday evening, and they would have the best cakes for dessert - I realise now that they were probably Mr Kipling! Things we never had at home :)

Getting pocket money to go get penny sweets at the weekend i remember well..

Jezzamk · 06/08/2015 19:51

Best gift would be a book. I was always reading and went to the library every Saturday morning to get some more.

My favourites were Enid Blyton's Famous Five and Semolina Silkpaws by Gladys Williams

Gilla01 · 06/08/2015 20:35

I loved getting new books - generally only for birthdays and Christmas.

MaryDunlop99 · 06/08/2015 20:40

I used to love the Jackie Magazine, and If I was good for the week, Mum used to buy it for me. And if I was extra good, I was allowed some sweets as well.

10p pic and mix bags.

Jenba590 · 06/08/2015 20:43

My favourite treats was little foil cups of chocolates i think they are called ice cups? they are amazing and so glad I come across them now and again as an adult. My mum used to let me go horse riding on saturday mornings but only after I had cleaned the bathroom :/

grannybiker · 06/08/2015 20:53

I've had to think hard about this as I don't really recall being rewarded much- perhaps I never deserved it, LOL! Or perhaps it wasn't really part of parenting back in the 60s/70s...?

I do remember my dad letting me choose a book as we were going on a long train journey and taking ages!
My Auntie used to buy me those paper-dolls books - I loved those!

laurapotz · 06/08/2015 20:57

My dad used to travel a lot for work and he would bring me back a doll dressed in the national dress for each country he visited.

el2606 · 06/08/2015 21:04

A jam doughnut was my favourite treat!

ser01 · 06/08/2015 21:22

fish and chips from the chip shop wrapped in newspaper :D

dandanrawlings · 06/08/2015 21:22

I remember getting a lunchbox with sweets and some small toys at the end of the week if i was good at school

coffeenowalnuts · 06/08/2015 21:32

My first memory is going to the corner shop with my Mum to buy a plastic zoo animal. Every week that I was good all week I was allowed to choose another one. I never did have a very impressive collection...

Once I started school I was given sweet money on a Friday afternoon like my friends and I'd head straight for the 'small sweets' counter. We could get a lot for our money for 20p! And a regular treat was going to my Nan's for Sunday lunch, and pudding after. She made the best treacle tart ever, I've never tasted one since that came anywhere near it Smile

pinklady123456 · 06/08/2015 21:34

Toy cars - I was a total tomboy and used to get them as a special treat from my nan. On a food related treat note, I had salty Jacobs crackers when I was about 3 and used to eat heaps of them. I'm horrified at the thought of this now as would never give them to my toddler!

maria08k · 06/08/2015 21:36

My mum and dad never had a lot of money...but a real treat was going to the local paper shop and being able to buy some of the pick and mix....if mum was feeling really generous she'd even let us have some of the mint golfball chewing gum ( we wernt usually allowed gum)

EmNix · 06/08/2015 21:38

I used to get small treats. New fuzzy felts, plasticine, paper dolls, colouring pads etc.... I was happy and quiet. A win for everyone!

glmcall123 · 06/08/2015 21:50

Sweets on a Saturday if we'd been good.

JWalker23 · 06/08/2015 22:01

I'm trying to think but cant think of anything! Which is really bad! I remember getting magazines :)

HelenPlant · 06/08/2015 22:11

My mum used to buy me Fruit Salad sweets when I'd been really good. Still love 'em even today!
