Fingers crossed it will soon be BBQ season - and as part of their #LidlSurprises campaign, the team at Lidl would love to hear about your surprising BBQ successes.

Lidl say "With BBQ season hopefully upon us soon, we'd love to hear from Mumsnetters with fabulous ideas for how to make your BBQ a summer sensation! We're really excited to be working with Mumsnet to promote the range of BBQ items available in Lidl - everything from salads, to meats and dessert ideas - but we know you probably have a genius idea up your sleeve to make even the most basic foods into a BBQ treat. Surprise us!"

So what's surprisingly good on the BBQ? Could be a fairly everyday dish that's even better grilled in the open air, or something that you'd never have thought of barbecuing until you tried it - or just a particular combination of ingredients that seem to sing when cooked on the BBQ?

What reaction did you get from the hungry hordes? Why were you surprised it worked - and would you try it again? Tell us how long you cooked it for, and if it's a bit complicated please do share the recipe. Any photos are VERY welcome!

butternut squash and sweetcorn are delicious on the BBQ

Banana in the skin with marshmallow and chocolate cooked in foil on the bbq - really good!

Veggie kebabs - onions, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, courgettes and peppers

Was going to say bananas with chocolate in tin foil but see it's had a few other mentions already. First had this when camping with the Guides as a youngster - have passed it on to many friends and family since. Could use LIDL choc with whole hazlenuts for that nutty twist?

Am now keen to try mini jacket potatoes, cherry tomato kebabs - perhaps experiment with veggie kebabs generally? (We usually have veggie sausages or burgers with maybe some fried onions)

Also pineapple, watermelon, and how about mango all sounding good too

jacket potato with halloumi and lime juice and banana and chocolate with sliced strawberries is yummy

i like chicken kebabs with tomatoes onion and mushrooms coated nwith some sweet chilli sauce delicious

Peppers, Chicken and Onion skewers with sweet chilli sauce are delicious.

watermelon and pineapple is good on a BBQ

I love a nice bit of cod in foil, with spring onions, red peppers, garlic and chilli, with a dash of soy sauce.

Deluxe Kangaroo defrosted and marinated in red wine...happy days.

Wrapping marinated pork fillets in foil and leaving them to cook, so succulent and tasty!! I haven't done anything sweet so I will be looking at some of the suggestions

Bananas slit along the back, chocolate buttons shoved along the slit, wrap in foil and barbecue until molten.

Ready-baked chicken drumsticks marinated and then just finished on the BBQ - avoids the problem of cooking for ages to avoid food poisoning which usually means burnt somewhere.

A whole onion with knob of butter wrapped in foil and placed on BBQ is such a delish treat

I marinade portobello mushrooms (those really big ones) in chilli oil then bbq them - really yummy !

stuffed mushrooms and chicken kebabs - both go down a treat

Hot fruit kebabs - bananas, pineapple, strawberries, pears and melon. Drizzle with honey or maple syrup and add cream if you fancy it - delicious :)

I love popping some corn on the cob on the BBQ - a healthier side option to go with my burgers!

Mackeral with some squeezed Lemon and basil lightly grilled on the BBQ is class!

Another vote here for halloumi on the BBQ. Also love marshmallows on sticks to finish with.
