We've been asked by comparethemarket.com to find out about who Mumsnetters' ideal celebrity cinema buddy is.

Here’s what comparethemarket.com say: "Everyone loves the movies but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun without your chosen companions, whether that be your children, your best friend or your partner."

So, if you could buddy up on a trip to the cinema with any celebrity or historical figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Everyone who leaves their comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

PS: Compare the Market also say “MEERKAT MOVIES offers 2 for 1 cinema tickets every Tuesday or Wednesday for a whole year when you make a qualifying purchase through comparethemarket.com*. This could be as little as purchasing a single trip travel insurance policy which on average costs just £25.44 - making it one of the most generous rewards programmes available.”

Claudia winkle an - knows her films and would be a good gossip . Mary berry as she would bring cake

lottietiger · 16/04/2015 23:07

I would like to take Ryan Gosling to watch a horror movie and pretend to be very very scared....

Stratter5 · 16/04/2015 23:29

Christopher Eccleston, and I'd like him to hold my hand whilst we watch 28 Days Later. I've never made it to the end, I'm sure I could if he was there Grin

kungfupidge · 17/04/2015 10:33

mine would be eric bana just because i could stare at him if the movie wasn't very good !! :) x

CheeseEMouse · 17/04/2015 14:45

I'd take Judi Dench - I think she would have some really interesting things to say about the acting.

Clawdy · 17/04/2015 15:00

Has to be Orson Welles....witty,charming and would have been a brilliant film critic!

gnomebulb2 · 17/04/2015 16:45

Nikolai Tesla because he was such an awesome scientist and he'd be able to explain all the science behind the Sci-Fi films I have to watch with my sons! Also, he'd know how much of it was really possible to achieve in the future. I'm sure he'd be amazed by all the CGI!

Marmalade1144 · 17/04/2015 18:33

I'd go with Richard gere for the phwoar factor or Margaret Thatcher as she'd be great for conversation if a little disapproving of everything and everyone.

Wolfcub · 17/04/2015 19:55

Clint Eastwood (he's still good looking) but as an excellent actor and director he'd be great to talk through the film with afterwards. Plus, those irritating people who talk over the film wouldn't dare with Dirty Harry around

MagicCardTrick · 17/04/2015 21:38

I think she's already been bagged but I would choose Cameron Diaz. I've had a tiff with my favourite friend. Cameron would be a good temporary replacement.

Amibambini · 17/04/2015 22:36

Jonathan Van Ness, host of Gay of Thrones and the fiercest hairdresser, social commentator and tv critic this side of The Wall.

Where. Are. My. Dragons.

KatharineClifton · 17/04/2015 22:51

With Thor, to see Avengers: Age of Ultron. As long as he's not a sweet eater, if so he could see me to the door of an empty theatre then wait outside for me.

reenu · 17/04/2015 23:25

Tom Hanks because he seems very nice and genuine person and most importantly ,he is absolutely dashing!!

Scrounger · 18/04/2015 00:35

Churchill because I think he is the greatest Britain ever and he would bring a load of champagne. No real connection to the movies though.

Well considering my eldest daughter has a weekend homework task of compiling a Meerkat fact file as part of a KS2 project and I have spent much of Friday night looking into prep work for this errand there can only be one answer.

Wait for it... Aleksandr Orlov, entrepreneur and founder of comparethemeerkat.com and not to forget actorkat! Why? Meerkats are very sociable creatures making it an easy night with no fraught conversations. They live in 'mobs' of around 20 so Alexansdr would undoubtedly bring the rest of his clan and ensure we are all snuggled up tight and kept warm. And then they could take it in turns on sentry duty to check out the available male talent on show! The perfect gents!

One condition though, I am expecting cravats all round it these guys are to look up to par and accompany me!

The Elephant Man.... Just so i could be his friend x

InterOuta · 18/04/2015 15:20

I would like to go with Emma Watson, she is young yet very smart!

IncaAztec · 18/04/2015 15:31

Angela Lansbury. She's brill and would sing along and eat popcorn with me!

leannemasters · 18/04/2015 18:00

Anthony Hopkins. A legend in film!

TracyKNixon · 18/04/2015 18:04

David Walliams - he makes me laugh and would be great company! We'd go for drinks afterwards!

Darienne · 18/04/2015 18:08

Arnold Schwarzenegger - because if anyone was talking through the film, I would get Arnie to shout "GET OUT" at them

purpleskull · 18/04/2015 18:08

Jack Black because..oh um..because I want to go on the back row with him blush

StickChildNumberTwo · 18/04/2015 18:09

I quite fancy taking Paddington to see Paddington - I'd love to see what he makes of it, and would get him to tell me more tales of Darkest Peru. Plus he'd definitely have brought snacks....

angelinlace · 18/04/2015 18:10

Ant & Dec as they come together as one

jt75 · 18/04/2015 18:13

Barry Norman for his film knowledge.
