We've been asked by comparethemarket.com to find out about who Mumsnetters' ideal celebrity cinema buddy is.

Here’s what comparethemarket.com say: "Everyone loves the movies but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun without your chosen companions, whether that be your children, your best friend or your partner."

So, if you could buddy up on a trip to the cinema with any celebrity or historical figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Everyone who leaves their comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

PS: Compare the Market also say “MEERKAT MOVIES offers 2 for 1 cinema tickets every Tuesday or Wednesday for a whole year when you make a qualifying purchase through comparethemarket.com*. This could be as little as purchasing a single trip travel insurance policy which on average costs just £25.44 - making it one of the most generous rewards programmes available.”

I'd go with Nigella Lawson as I'm sure she'd bring some homemade treats to snack on.

strawberrisc · 22/04/2015 18:49

Barry Norman of course!

Poldark. So Aiden Turner but he'd have to be Poldark. Pity the person behind the hat.

TheWindowDonkey · 23/04/2015 07:10

Kate Winslet as she's always struck me as someone who'd be a great laugh, or Emma Watson, because dd loves her and i think she's a fab female role model for dd.

LizzieMMM · 23/04/2015 14:51

Jane Austen would always have something pithy and pertinent to say

georgedawes · 23/04/2015 15:51

After the scandalous Daily Mail story - it's got to be Ed Miliband.

GrooveHeart · 23/04/2015 21:30

Tom Hardy. Just to cosy up to.

cheryl100 · 23/04/2015 21:55

Peter Kay, I just love him! not as though he would be able to crack jokes during a film!

samosh22 · 24/04/2015 01:16

Johnny Depp

spiroo · 24/04/2015 05:29

Danny Boyle, to see what is his thought on the films

nerysw · 24/04/2015 09:13

Rhys Ifans, I think he'd be a great person to watch a film with.

Noel Gallagher - so dry and funny. Great company. Easy on eye too

jandoc · 24/04/2015 16:50

Derren Brown because he is my hero though I am aware I would want to talk to him throughout the film :-)

keshimonster · 24/04/2015 23:55

Aw would have to be Robin Williams, he was so funny and reminded me of my childhood :)

libra101 · 25/04/2015 07:04

Alan Carr - we would laugh and giggle all the way through!

dollydaydream123 · 25/04/2015 08:57

Going to the cinema is such a treat these days! I would go with Thandie Newton as she seems like she would be good fun and we'd be able to have an interesting conversation about the film afterwards.

VictoriaSt · 25/04/2015 09:39

Taylor swift, I'm pretty sure we'd like exactly the same movies and could squeal with delight at every cat that appeared on screen...

lilmiztam22 · 25/04/2015 10:55

William Shakespeare much of our language and today's modern acting has come from him so I'd love to see what he thinks of it all

chrisfc99 · 25/04/2015 11:47

Dame Maggie Smith because I've always admired her as an actress and I think her one line put downs would have me in stiches.
