With the Easter long weekend fast approaching, we have been asked by the team at Lidl to find out your top tips and traditions for the bank holiday weekend.

Please share on this thread what makes a perfect Easter weekend for you and your family.

Do you celebrate with a big family get-together and meal? Or take it as a chance to catch on some long overdue jobs round the house and garden? Do you get all crafty in the run up with bonnets and cards? Or are you a baking goddess rustling up your own hot cross buns? And what do you do with any left over chocolate? Do you have family traditions which you have developed over the years - please share them here!

Add your comment and you'll be entered into a prize draw where five MNers will each win a £50 voucher for Lidl.

Please note that any comments posted on this thread may be used by Lidl in further marketing material (anonymously, of course)

Thanks and good luck

We do a second Christmas dinner for Easter - Turkey, pudding and the rest. Fab.

And more chocolate than is reasonable!

happysouls · 25/03/2015 18:12

For us Easter is just the same as any other weekend except maybe with a bit of chocolate! Weekends are for quality time whatever or whenever that may be!

Since having children, we and some friends have done annual Easter Egg hunts, last year away camping and that will be the same this year.

When we aren't away though we.would go to Mass in the morning and then have a family day out followed by dinner with grandparents.

In the days before children we would.go to Mass the night before so we could eat.chocolate/ drink wine straight after after 6 weeks off (I have no willpower these days san Lent sometimes only lasts one day for me, so this is not so much of an issue).

Grandad (who is usually NOT very good with children around) suddenly transforms into supergrandad at Easter as it has become tradition to plan an easter egg hunt in the garden each year for the kids. We do it rain or shine - even getting the wellies out if it is muddy- and it is so special to see him enjoy preparing the egg hunt and seeing the kids enjoy doing it. We then all have roast lamb together for lunch.

Easter egg hunt on Sunday morning! woohoo

Do an Easter Egg hunt around the garden for ds and assorted friends and relatives. A "big" egg per child and multiple small eggs (creme eggs, the multiple packs of hollow eggs from Lidl), mini chickens and rabbits. They collect them all and being them back to the patio and then we divvy it up equitably.

Last year ds was 13 and chose to have the fun hiding the eggs for his nephew (7).

Then we have a brunch with kedgeree, American pancakes with maple syrup and home-made hot cross buns, muffins and simnel cake (I enjoy baking Wink).

I also make some hard boiled marbled eggs (boil them in coloured water and then rolled in more food colouring with a bit of oil, then polished with kitchen paper), which are pretty as decoration then the kids roll them down banks in the garden.

We have an Easter egg hunt and a family dinner at my mums. We also make chocolate rice krispie nest cakes with eggs in.

Sunshine and sand

An Easter egg hunt with little written clues from the Easter bunny. A great way to get my 6 year old to do some extra reading.

TheFlyingFauxPas · 26/03/2015 15:56

Easter egg hunt in garden for 3 generations of family - they love it :-) Gets a bit competitive!

cristalfiona · 27/03/2015 07:12

Definitely spending time in the garden, if the weather co-operates

vicks276 · 27/03/2015 09:34

Lots of chocolate, a good sunday roast and quality time with the family.

gazzalw · 27/03/2015 11:09

Don't really do anything special for Easter except a trip to our local NT property and participation in the Cadbury's Easter Egg Hunt!

lorka · 27/03/2015 12:05

Paint eggs and visit family for fun easter egg hunts. Of course lots of chocolate too!! :)

serendipity1980 · 27/03/2015 13:40

We have some quiet family time, playing games, going out for walks. We have a lovely tradition of finding a tree branch in the garden and making an Easter tree by placing it in a vase and hanging Easter decorations from it.

toldmywrath · 27/03/2015 19:56

Easter for us means a picnic out in the lovely Kent countryside-whatever the weather! Hot cross buns, lemon meringue pie & cold chicken are the usual suspects. (and the all important Easter eggs)

I'll be spending the long weekend with family and friends. Especially as one of my friends turns 30 on the Saturday! So we'll all be out celebrating.

Compermo · 27/03/2015 21:30

Easter eggs for the children, naturally. Then start spring cleaning outdoors, with a big garden tidy-up.

threelittlepigs · 27/03/2015 21:51

We always have a full on Easter egg hunt with clues and challenges - we did it as kids and so I now do it for mine - they love it!

jt75 · 28/03/2015 12:15

We will be looking at wildlife in Scotland.

dirtypop · 28/03/2015 12:49

our weekend mainly consists of eating lots of chocolate eggs

marshgirl · 28/03/2015 15:07

My plan is to spend time relaxing from the early school starts and work. Although my partner will be working all over Easter I will be catching up with other family .

mulgrove · 28/03/2015 17:38

Painting Eggs then hide them in the garden

jennie1984j · 28/03/2015 18:24

We always have a family easter egg hunt
