The team at Specsavers would love to know what you think about glasses frames these days - there are hundred's to choose from - but do you always go for the same type of frame? Or do you have more than one on the go to co-ordinate with your clothes? What about your DP/DH if they wear specs - do you help to choose them, do they like a particular style? How long do you tend to keep your frames? And do you take advantage of 2for1 offers to get something a bit different? How do you pick the frame which suits you best?

Specsavers say "Whatever your style, we can help you find frames that suit you best. Our collection of women's glasses includes a range of styles from classic chic to bold and contemporary. With stylish frames starting from just £25 a pair and designer frames priced from £99 to £149, there’s something to suit all tastes and pockets. All glasses come with PENTAX single vision lenses and a scratch-resistant treatment".

"Vibrant purples, reds, pinks and rich tortoiseshells are emerging trends in eyewear. We have a gorgeous collection of ladies glasses to help you add a pop of colour to your wardrobe. Our women’s glasses are made in a range of materials, including plastic, metal, stainless steel and titanium. If you have a preference for what your frames are made of, search by materials to find the perfect pair".

Share your thoughts and everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 voucher from here

Please note Specsavers may use your comments - anon of course - on their pages on MN, on their social media or possibly elsewhere - please only post if you're happy with this.

Thanks and good luck

I now buy 2 pairs if one is discounted as my children grab my glasses so much, it is feasible I could end up with s broken pair. I do choose different styles or the same pair but in different colours so I've got a choice of matching my glasses with outfit. I tend to choose plastic frames that can have a new prescription put in, to get extra life out of them. I recently bought some prescription sunglasses which I'm really pleased with as I dont like having to wear contact lenses in order to wear sunglasses.

miljones1 · 31/01/2015 07:13

I love my glasses but I find the choice of frames at places like spec savers way too limited - I want to look at lots of frames from around the world before I choose - it's a big investment (which is why I only have 1 pair!)

Scatlett4456 · 31/01/2015 08:21

I have a small face ( beautiful obviously) I really struggle to buy frames.
The children's ones would fit better really.

Usually I have choice of about two frames. The arms also jut out about an inch behind my ears.

It's a big problem for me. Just seen throws post above mine and it seems I'm not alone.

WarmHugs · 31/01/2015 12:40

My glasses are so expensive, so I usually get the second pair as sunglasses. And they get used about three times per year.

SpecSavers have a great range of styles, but I do need help choosing as I can't see myself in the shop frames!

AlmaMartyr · 31/01/2015 12:51

I only ever have one pair of glasses, but then I use contact lenses the most. One of my eyes is such a high prescription that I'm very limited to what frames I can have, unless I spend a huge amount of money to get incredibly thin lenses. I tend to get them thinned a bit, and then I still need plastic frames, relatively small so that the thickness doesn't show too much. It's a shame but Specsavers has actually been very very helpful in helping me choose and since I predominantly wear contacts, I don't worry too much about frames. I am a bit jealous of some of the fab ones I could never wear (and actually of some of the cool kids glasses!)

gamerwidow · 31/01/2015 12:58

I usually use the 2 for 1 deals to get a pair of glasses and a pair of sun glasses. Currently I love the retro black plastic frames. One thing that would be great is the option to try a selection of frames at home before you buy so you can canvas opinion from your friends. Glasses direct offer up to 4 frames to try at home at a time and I found this so helpful when choosing my last pair.

FourEyesGood · 31/01/2015 21:26

I love colourful frames but fear looking like Su Pollard, so I tend to go for fairly sensible frames. I used to have purple frames, and got lots of positive comments about them, but I always felt as though no-one would really take me seriously.

When offered 2 for 1 on frames, I usually get one sensible pair with dark frames, and one more interesting pair. Then I end up only ever wearing the interesting pair.

It seems that I've contradicted myself throughout this post! Ah well.

DinoSnores · 31/01/2015 21:30

I've been wearing specs since I was a toddler, so have gone through the lovely NHS ones as a child (and I really did like them!) and have finally found the shape that suits me. Assistants who are confident enough to say, "No, I think this might be better," are great, especially when my eyesight isn't good enough to see what I look like in the frames with no lenses.

I tend to keep my frames for a few years and always go for a 2for1 offer so I can get prescription sunglasses as well.

(And your advertising here has been very successful - you've reminded me that my next eye test is definitely overdue, so I'll be booking it on Monday.)

ilovereading · 31/01/2015 21:31

We all get our glasses at Specsavers these days, and I get contact lenses there too - their service is excellent.

However, my current glasses frames aren't as good as the ones I got about 10 years ago from Dollond and Aitcheson - the best I've ever had, and which lasted almost forever. But they did cost about half a month's salary! - The thing is, I need to have super-lightweight frames ( as I'm sensitive to extra weight on the bridge of my nose, and the lenses add extra weight as I have quite a strong prescription). Specsavers did the best they could and they supplied me with my current pair, which were astonishingly cheap by comparision with the D&A pair. However, they are a continual frustration, as the earpieces are not hinged, just springy - so it's like trying to cram a jack-in-the-box back when trying to fit them into their case and then close it. They are quite light, it's true; but I think the lack of proper hinges for folding was a false economy. I'd rather have paid more for a top-end product here.

I prefer almost rimless, or barely-visible, frames, as my face doesn't suit heavy frames. I do help DH and DS choose theirs, and am always impressed by both the range available, and the good value, at Specsavers.

poorincashrichinlove · 31/01/2015 21:42

I'd love to update my look with new frames but I don't really know what suits me now that I'm no young whipper-snapper and my face has filled out a bit. Some non-salesy advice would be most welcome

sarahbanshee · 31/01/2015 21:53

My 3yo DD chose my current glasses - much to my surprise! She picked them up while I was browsing the frames and said "get these Mummy, purple is your favourite colour". I looked and she'd made a great choice so there we go.

I tend to get prescription sunglasses when there is an offer on - too expensive otherwise.

Khady · 31/01/2015 23:26

I always take everything into consideration including 2 for 1 deals. I actually have 3 glasses on the go, 1 for staying at home, 1 that is quite funky, and 1 that is dark that is my favourite because it looks really good on me. The one for staying at home is obviously a basic one and the others have extras. I don't mind whether it's designer or not, as long as it's good quality and has good reviews and obviously allows me to actually see.

jodiecrossley1 · 01/02/2015 13:57

I tend to go for black frames and usually wait for a 2 for 1 offer

prwilson · 01/02/2015 14:04

I don't wear glasses.

janeyf1 · 01/02/2015 14:05

I think the choice of frames has certainly increased over the years and there has never been so many stylish options. However, it is hard to know what suits me best without trying them on first, so I always need to buy instore. It takes me a while to choose.

rodders470 · 01/02/2015 14:10

I tend to go for frameless or very thin lightweight frames, simply because they tend to stay fashionable for longer, and new frames are just too expensive to buy for a new updated style.

simone12345 · 01/02/2015 14:41

love all the offers l pick my glasses with the help of the person there in the shop to help try lots on first though

ThemisA · 01/02/2015 14:44

I have quite a small head and find it quite hard to get specs that remain tight enough. I always have one expensive pair and several cheap ones all around the house.

shazzarooney99 · 01/02/2015 14:53

I love the specsavers range, they have a fantasic range,i never choose the same glasses,i like nice colouful ones.

cheryl100 · 01/02/2015 14:54

I think the variety these days is fantastic! There are some really trendy ones for kids and teens alike

Oldbiddywilkins · 01/02/2015 14:58

I get new frames every time I need a new prescription which is every couple of years. I choose them in order of price, suitability for the varifocal lenses and style. I find them ridiculously expensive these days. We used to just get new lenses put in old frames years ago but it seems to be a given that you choose new frames every time now.

Hubby and DS2 wear glasses. DS goes for fashionable frames while DH chooses the cheapest!

cuppawithbiccies · 01/02/2015 15:49

I have a thin face and even with the help of the staff i only end up with a choice of about 2 frames. So no i don't change frames a lot.

DS has a high prescription and so is again limited on what frames. for the pair before last I paid extra for the ultra thin lenses however they were horrendous to keep clean and constantly had finger prints on. went back to the thicker lenses for the last pair

Gilla01 · 01/02/2015 15:55

Frames seem much too expensive, especially when you compare frames for sunglasses.

I find that there may be a vast amount of frames, but they are all variations on a theme. I wear varifokes and need a deepish frame and found this very hard to find for my last pair of glasses.

OH likes a large frame, and again, most frames were small.

lizd31 · 01/02/2015 15:57

I have one style for reading & another for distance. Glasses frames are so trendy these days, it's hard to decide which ones I like best

ElectroNymph · 01/02/2015 16:00

I think there are so many frames that it's hard to know which to pick! The prices are pretty high too.
