Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out what makes Mumsnetters and their DCs feel better when they’re feeling under the weather during the winter months.

Here’s what Nurofen says, “Both adults and children may experience a sniffle or two this winter, but the whole family wants to feel their best to make the most of the festive season. From Halloween to Christmas, there are plenty of family occasions to enjoy during the colder months and being holed up in the house is no fun for anybody. If you or your children are struck down with cold or flu, Nurofen offers a range of products to help manage both adult and child symptoms including fever, sore throats, headaches and minor body aches.”

So, what do you do to help yourself and your DCs feel better when you are (both) down with a winter bug? Do you tuck yourself under multiple covers on the couch and put on a marathon of your favourite TV show? Perhaps you have a special recipe which you reserve for when you’re feeling under the weather which you find keeps you going? Or maybe a hot bath does the trick for you and your DC? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it.

Everyone who leaves their comments below will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

A nice box of choccies!

graceyyxx · 18/11/2014 21:56

some hot chicken soup and putting the christmas decorations up!

ChantelD93 · 18/11/2014 22:20

We're are snuggle up kind of family!
When I'm ill I sleep and DS is exactly the same! We will spend all day cuddled on the sofa sleeping, only waking for food and drink. Cuddles is the best cure!

selloveday · 18/11/2014 23:10

Bed, Lemsip and cuddles. Not necessarily in that order!

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 18/11/2014 23:14

Another vote for chicken soup here. When one my little ones is ill we cuddle up in my bed and watch films together.

BreconBeBuggered · 18/11/2014 23:34

Hot water bottle, blanket, and as many painkillers as I can eat inside 24 hours without going over the limit. I don't often get bugs, but when I do, I don't believe in pointless stoicism.

SoonToBeSix · 18/11/2014 23:41

A duvet on the couch , a simple movie , chicken soup and hot Ribena.

1ivewire · 19/11/2014 08:57

A hot bottle, medication and snuggling under the blanket in front of the tv. I normally stick the slow cooker on so i don't have to worry about cooking too!

sootyo · 19/11/2014 09:59

Snuggled under a warm quilt on the sofa, with little treats and a warm drink. Then most importantly, frequent cuddles.

marieangel76 · 19/11/2014 10:33

Nice hot shower, pyjamas on, then snuggled up under a blanket with the fire on and a hot cup of tea

afussyphase · 19/11/2014 11:19
  • nurofen, decongestants
  • hot lemon with honey (my aunt makes it with rum, which is nice too)
  • DH taking DD2 to my workplace nursery so I can work from home
  • my MIL's fabulous spicy ginger-garlic soup. It is amazing
Stinkystinkypoopoohead · 19/11/2014 12:24

In our house we have a saying that "orange food make us better"!

Once the worst of any lurgy passes the menu for recuperating generally means hot orange squash with honey, carrot and coriander or lentil soup or beans or spaghetti, treats would be lucozade and wotsits.

But I also think plenty of hot drinks, paracetamol, a hot water bottle, a snuggley blanket and abig hug from someone special makes a HUGE difference

LizzieMMM · 19/11/2014 13:00

My mother used to give me butter and sugar for a sore throat - it tasted divine

pnutter · 19/11/2014 13:11

First take meds: adult / child Ibuprofen / Nurofen / throat sweets etc
Then TV on movie channel
Blankets teddies and lots of drinks - ice cold for throats or hot lemon ginger honey camomile for colds
Feed a cold : anything you can still taste! Chocolate ...
CUDDLES

Hamiltoes · 19/11/2014 14:38

Clean soft pyjamas, and a toasty hot water bottle with a fleecy cover

ILoveMyCaravan · 19/11/2014 16:22

Clean sheets, propped up on lots of pillows, watching crap daytime TV and regular doses of paracetamol with lots of drinks.

FreeWee · 19/11/2014 20:09

Peppa Pig on the iPad (DD), a furry blanket and back to back soaps (me) and a warm fluffy jumper and joggers for DH. Swear by ibuprofen for the aches of genuine flu. Turn the heating up high as I just can't get warm.

marshgirl · 19/11/2014 21:29

Feet up, warm blanket, catch up with the tv and movies. Endless cups of tea and a box of tissues. Olbas Oil drops on a hankie , placed over the radiator. When the heating is on , it gives a lovely smell in the room and clears your sinuses.

jennie1984j · 19/11/2014 21:31

sleep and soup!

Uzma01 · 19/11/2014 22:14

Usually for me after several days of feeling icky - a hot shower and changing into clean clothes makes me feel almost human again!

For the kids, they usually want me to hold them for as long as possible, just sitting in my lap and watching CBeebies.

grandajimmy · 19/11/2014 22:18

My little mum always gave us hot lemonade and beechams powders, early night in bed to sweat it out of you. I still use her little remedy and it always makes me feel lots better.

BlueNile57 · 19/11/2014 23:17

Hot chocolate with whipped cream and cadburys flake whilst sitting on the sofa under a blanket watching something soppy on the tv

daisyduck123 · 19/11/2014 23:28

Home made honey and lemon, duvet on the sofa and the remote control to myself !

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 20/11/2014 00:14

Hot blackcurrant juice for the kids, hot coffee for me.

Also Original Source mint and tea tree shower gel, used liberally in a hot shower in the morning - clears my head up a treat and is a good kick up the bum especially for those times when you actually have to get on with it and can't just give in and go to bed. Also quite good for hangovers Grin

raindaisy · 20/11/2014 07:55

When mine are poorly its the sofa with pillows and fleecy blanket with hot drinks and lots of tissues the movies get put on and lots of cuddles. they have nurofen for children paracetamol and ibuprofen. Not that they are ill often i have one at home today first time this year off school. DH had it a few weeks ago and he stayed in bed sleeping. When its me i like to curl up on sofa with blanket, pillows, hot water bottle and some hot cold drinks and doze as i have to still look after them all. Highly recommend the tissues with a balm on them as no sore noses.
