Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out what makes Mumsnetters and their DCs feel better when they’re feeling under the weather during the winter months.

Here’s what Nurofen says, “Both adults and children may experience a sniffle or two this winter, but the whole family wants to feel their best to make the most of the festive season. From Halloween to Christmas, there are plenty of family occasions to enjoy during the colder months and being holed up in the house is no fun for anybody. If you or your children are struck down with cold or flu, Nurofen offers a range of products to help manage both adult and child symptoms including fever, sore throats, headaches and minor body aches.”

So, what do you do to help yourself and your DCs feel better when you are (both) down with a winter bug? Do you tuck yourself under multiple covers on the couch and put on a marathon of your favourite TV show? Perhaps you have a special recipe which you reserve for when you’re feeling under the weather which you find keeps you going? Or maybe a hot bath does the trick for you and your DC? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it.

Everyone who leaves their comments below will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Don my fluffy onesie and snuggle under the electric heated throw whilst watching as many seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as required. Food wise mac'n'cheese, washed down with hot squash Smile

Warm baths with radox bath salts then climbing into pyjamas that have been warmed up in the tumble dryer.
Snuggles on the sofa under our warmest fleecy blanket in front of a nice dvd.

My vapouriser going full pelt, full of eucalyptus oil and a big mug of Heinz tomato soup.

My grandma who bought us up used to always smell of eucalyptus when we had a cold and always used to give us Heinz tomato soup as she said it was full of vitamin c. It was the only processed food she ever used to serve though so we thought it was magic liquid compared to the watery homemade soup which was normally on offer.

She died when I was 13 and yet I always drink Heinz tomato soup when I am under the weather.

AmericasTorturedBrow · 18/11/2014 05:12

echinacea, vitamin c by the bucket load and lots of hearty, healthy but comfort feeling soups.

Funnily enough strawberry calpol for DC - we live in the US and it's usually at the top of our lists for stuff visitors from home have to bring in their suitcase

Hot Ribena, a duvet and my dog :)

KitCat26 · 18/11/2014 10:05

Hot orange juice with honey and a drop of brandy does it for me when I am poorly. That and snuggling up on the sofa and putting a DVD on. Pride and prejudice is my go to comfort watch.

VictoriaSt · 18/11/2014 10:42

nice hot shower and some soup :)

sofieellis · 18/11/2014 11:09

A hot water bottle and duvet on the sofa. Vaporub on the chest and a steam inhaler to ease breathing. And lots of cuddles!

BellaVida · 18/11/2014 11:20

No magic cure-all, but lots of things help.

  • pyjamas, fluffy dressing gown & socks.
  • pillows & duvets in a heap in the living room (sofa or floor depending on how many are ill!)
  • endless supplies of hot drinks including hot lemon & honey.
  • tomato soup
  • good TV (not enough concentration for books).
  • ibuprofen to lessen symptoms.
  • water and rehydration drinks.
  • short walks in the fresh air, wrapped up nice and warm.
  • nice soft tissues
  • lip balm to stop dry cracked lips
  • menthol and herbal oils to clear your nose and at bedtime.

and lastly........an understanding DH who can pop into the shop on the way home from work to buy everthing you need ;-)
