Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out what makes Mumsnetters and their DCs feel better when they’re feeling under the weather during the winter months.

Here’s what Nurofen says, “Both adults and children may experience a sniffle or two this winter, but the whole family wants to feel their best to make the most of the festive season. From Halloween to Christmas, there are plenty of family occasions to enjoy during the colder months and being holed up in the house is no fun for anybody. If you or your children are struck down with cold or flu, Nurofen offers a range of products to help manage both adult and child symptoms including fever, sore throats, headaches and minor body aches.”

So, what do you do to help yourself and your DCs feel better when you are (both) down with a winter bug? Do you tuck yourself under multiple covers on the couch and put on a marathon of your favourite TV show? Perhaps you have a special recipe which you reserve for when you’re feeling under the weather which you find keeps you going? Or maybe a hot bath does the trick for you and your DC? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it.

Everyone who leaves their comments below will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Snuggling up on the sofa in front of a good movie

richyrowley · 16/11/2014 22:24

Plenty of hot lemon to soothe the throat

SkyWasFullOfWickedWitches · 16/11/2014 22:33

First line of defence is neurophen for adults and children with aches and fevers. Hot water bottle, Epsom salt baths, fresh linen every morning, fresh PJs, fresh orange juice, fancy hot chocolates, lots of cuddles. Books and films. For DD we play her favourite games on the ipad together and watch Natural History Museum Alive. Vicks on the back and chest for congestion. steaming for sore throats and sinuses. Vitamins and immunobooster tablets.

a nice warm bath and lots of warm drinks under multiple blankets and duvet

katief1001 · 16/11/2014 22:45

hot water bottle and chicken soup

yoeydavis · 16/11/2014 23:01

warm, cosy pyjama's, wooly socks, a hot drink, bed and a good book.

HelloDoris · 16/11/2014 23:25

Duvet on the sofa, rubbish TV hot ribena, marmite on toast and snuggles off a loved one!

CurlyLocks87 · 17/11/2014 06:57

For me: a bath, pj's and lots of sleep. Preferably DH would take the kids out as well so that the house is quiet.

For kids: always pj's, laying on the couch watching tv and lots of cuddles.

No matter what the illness is though for both always drinking lots of water, that's something that was instilled in me from my parents. Water cures everything(apparently).

DifferentNow · 17/11/2014 09:05

Medicine, peace and quiet to rest in my cosy bed and my lovely DH for hugs and to fetch me things like cups of tea and keep the DC entertained.

Soosieboo · 17/11/2014 12:10

Curled up on the sofa with my blanket. Watching old films. Hubby waiting me on me with endless cups of tea.

skater42 · 17/11/2014 12:57

Clean pj's, duvet and pile of blankets on the sofa, rubbishy reality tv that I dont have to concentrate on, mug of hot soup and - were it possible - the volume turned down on the DC's while the worst of it passes.

hot chocolate under a duvet on the sofa watching a classic girlie film. a bit of pampering!

marmitemad · 17/11/2014 13:37

curling up with a hot water bottle under the duvet on the sofa, cheesy films on tv, hot ribena and chocolate biscuits Biscuit

bubbleybooboo · 17/11/2014 14:47

warm vimto, pjs and duvet on the sofa!

Hopelass · 17/11/2014 15:52

Myself,dp and ds have been constantly ill for the last 8 weeks (since ds started nursery Confused) so we're experts now!
For colds: hot Ribena, hot bath, clean pjs and films on the sofa.
For sickness: cold Lucozade, warm bath, clean pjs and films on the sofa!

CK12232 · 17/11/2014 16:18

A cup of tea and a duvet day on the sofa with a book for me. My DS likes to watch a marathon of tv cartoons, make a duvet den on the floor and drink warm fruit squash.

imalostcause · 17/11/2014 16:20

I had an awful cold a couple of weeks ago. The only thing that makes me feel better is curling up in my PJs under the duvet on the sofa with my cat and dog and watching something funny on tv whilst drinking very hot tea and eating biscuits.

marymanc · 17/11/2014 18:19

It makes me feel better staying in bed under the duvet with a remote control and TV alternate with lots of sleep.

gregorsmummy · 17/11/2014 18:35

I like a nice hot shower with a citrus body wash, then a hot lemon and ginger drink followed by a big snooze on the sofa listening to an audio book. Dp loves lying on the sofa groaning with a hot whisky toddy. Ds just wants to lie on me and watch episodes of postman pat with warm milk

sleach · 17/11/2014 19:20

egg nog

Baconknickers · 17/11/2014 19:38

A nice cup of hit water with some fresh lemon, grated ginger and manuka honey to sip in bed and a neurofen on the side of things are really bad and just lots of time to wallow in bed and get rid of those germs...

Trudyla · 17/11/2014 19:45

At this time of year, sofa, Christmas movies (or anything the children watch but with a Xmas theme, e.g. Peppa Pig Xmas, Charlie and Lola Xmas etc,) and herbal teas.

Once the kids are in bed, whisky, lemon, honey.

Pinkypurrrfect · 17/11/2014 20:53

For me its most definatly a nice hot bath with lots of smellies, candles and bubbles with The vampire diaries on the Laptop and then straight in to bed with a hot chocolate :-) Nothing is better.

Miaow1234 · 17/11/2014 21:03

Snuggling under our blanket and watching lots of cartoons with hot chocolate.

dreamerxx · 17/11/2014 21:20

Long hot shower followed by day in pyjamas with plenty of hot chocolate and hubbies leek and potato soup.
