What makes you feel better when you’re down with a winter bug? Tell Nurofen for Children for a chance to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher! NOW CLOSED

Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out what makes Mumsnetters and their DCs feel better when they’re feeling under the weather during the winter months.

Here’s what Nurofen says, “Both adults and children may experience a sniffle or two this winter, but the whole family wants to feel their best to make the most of the festive season. From Halloween to Christmas, there are plenty of family occasions to enjoy during the colder months and being holed up in the house is no fun for anybody. If you or your children are struck down with cold or flu, Nurofen offers a range of products to help manage both adult and child symptoms including fever, sore throats, headaches and minor body aches.”

So, what do you do to help yourself and your DCs feel better when you are (both) down with a winter bug? Do you tuck yourself under multiple covers on the couch and put on a marathon of your favourite TV show? Perhaps you have a special recipe which you reserve for when you’re feeling under the weather which you find keeps you going? Or maybe a hot bath does the trick for you and your DC? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it.

Everyone who leaves their comments below will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

A hot drink and the knowledge that I don't have to go out on a school run!

BreakingDad77 · 14/11/2014 11:33

Making a proper coffee using my berliti? expresso maker, my thick blanket that I got from Africa and and getting a Box set on with DC snuggled in.

AlexanderinaTheGreater · 14/11/2014 11:39

Curling up in a blanket on the sofa watching TV (and dozing off) with no-one else to worry about.

magpiegin · 14/11/2014 11:42

A hot bath, stodgy food and rubbish tv.

MakeTeaNotWar · 14/11/2014 11:58

Definitely stay in PJs, lie on sofa with duvet and watch movies preferably with the DC out of the house and DH waiting on me hand and foot. Lots of hot cups of tea and soft tissues for my delicate shnozza

simone12345 · 14/11/2014 12:43

my hotwater bottle
a hot bath
blanket on sofa watching films all day
hot chocolate
lots tissues

oldsilver · 14/11/2014 12:47

For me: Sleep, Lucosade (only like it when I'm ill), seriously strong hot toddy, Olbus oil on a tissue down my bra, naff filns I don't mind dropping off to and white fish in parsley sauce with tinned peas and mashed potatoes.

In reality, I drop the sleep part, dose myself and just get on with it.

For DS: Cuddles, keep dosed up, hot honey and lemon, what he wants on telly and snacky meals on our laps instead of at the table, Olbus oil dapped around his bedroom and a nighttime cuddle when he invariably wakes up.

louiseoc · 14/11/2014 12:50

The best way to make myself feel better is to exercise, as long as Im not contagious I usually go to the gym to sweat it out

upsydaisyd0nt · 14/11/2014 13:03

My children's smiley faces...or other alternative is a hot cup of tea with a nip of Brandy/Whisky.

IAmAPaleontologist · 14/11/2014 13:07

Smoothies for me. Dh always knows when I have a cold brewing because I buy smoothies and drink them diluted down a bit with orange or apple juice. I'm bf so most lemsips etc out of bounds but I have a stash of elderberry syrup that I made with lots of cloves and star anise which is lovely made up with hot water when you have a cold.

Stoodles · 14/11/2014 13:17

Knowing my husband is able and willing to take over on everything so I can relax

badgermum · 14/11/2014 13:42

My boys like me to make a bed up on the sofa when they are feeling unwell, I put a fleece bottom sheet over the sofa then tuck them up with a duvet and pillow and hot water bottle if necessary, although sometimes I think they lay it on for longer so the settee bed stays for an extra day

Titsalinabumsquash · 14/11/2014 13:55

Nothing beats a bed of squishy pillows and a warm duvet on the sofa with some retro television a warming magazine (think Christmas crafts or cookery)
I like some thick white bread, toasted with butter and marmite and what my Mum used to make us which was warm milk with a teaspoon of honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
I like to go back to my childhood when I'm poorly, my mum was the best nurse and now she's passed away I treasure those memories more than most.

artsymum · 14/11/2014 14:01

Hot water bottles, chicken soup and snuggling up in bed

GREATAUNT1 · 14/11/2014 14:01

Hot soup & wrapped in my blanket to sweat it out.

alabaster002 · 14/11/2014 14:32

I have to be left to "roam the ramparts" in the middle of the night. My OH just takes to the bed when unwell but I am utterly impossible to deal with - the only thing that cheers me up is the illness is not going to last forever.

michele1970 · 14/11/2014 14:45

Snuggling under a fleece blanket sipping warm lemon and honey with the log burner warming our toes makes us feel better.

Roseformeplease · 14/11/2014 14:56

Daytime TV is a surefire cure for a number of ailments. It does not work on the seriously ill but "Homes Under the Hammer" has been known to bring an abrupt end to the common cold.

Additionally, we are great fans of taking the right medications: paracetamol, ibruprofen etc. We don't believe in just waiting it out but we work hard on the symptoms. We drink a lot of juice, read, have baths and generally snuggle. Actually, snuggling under a duvet is also a known cure for ailments.

Can you tell I am not a Doctor?

jules631 · 14/11/2014 15:45

Hot toddy and being able to have a nap

Snuggling up on the settee, with soft tissues at hand, something light and frothy on tv, plenty of hot drinks preferably supplied by OH, and something to eat, usually satsuma or grapes, and best of all - peace

ChaffinchOfMegalolz · 14/11/2014 16:06

lucozade, hot orange juice, soft balm tissues, lots painkillers, soft blankets, wearing glasses instead of contacts
if really ill, someone to take baby for a walk & do school run Smile
