Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out what makes Mumsnetters and their DCs feel better when they’re feeling under the weather during the winter months.

Here’s what Nurofen says, “Both adults and children may experience a sniffle or two this winter, but the whole family wants to feel their best to make the most of the festive season. From Halloween to Christmas, there are plenty of family occasions to enjoy during the colder months and being holed up in the house is no fun for anybody. If you or your children are struck down with cold or flu, Nurofen offers a range of products to help manage both adult and child symptoms including fever, sore throats, headaches and minor body aches.”

So, what do you do to help yourself and your DCs feel better when you are (both) down with a winter bug? Do you tuck yourself under multiple covers on the couch and put on a marathon of your favourite TV show? Perhaps you have a special recipe which you reserve for when you’re feeling under the weather which you find keeps you going? Or maybe a hot bath does the trick for you and your DC? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it.

Everyone who leaves their comments below will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Single paretn here. dose up on paracetamol before breakfast... top up with ibuprofen after if needed. take children to school. go home to bed. sleep until time to top up on meds and pick them up again. we will then have a quick tea. usually toast and something with fruit for pudding. the children get bribed with extra computer time to be quiet. go to bed at the same time as the children.

try to ward off illnesses by eating lots of fruit, veggies and seeds.

gabbyevs · 14/11/2014 00:25

lots of tea and soup

sandstormingtracey · 14/11/2014 00:31

having a long soak in the bath new cosy pjs on and then into a freshly made bed and not being disturbed for a few hours ( hate it when hubby keeps trying quietly to check on me to see if im asleep because i alway hear him and never get into a deep sleep)

lhlee62 · 14/11/2014 00:35

Lying on the sofa or in bed, tucked up with all the daytime TV I can cram in with some nice balsam tissues. No chance of that happening now with 2 kids under 3 :(

thekiwibex · 14/11/2014 00:49

Snuggled up in bed with a hot cup of tea and a good TV programme to watch!

Ohfourfoxache · 14/11/2014 01:02

Snoozing in bed with tea on tap until the worst has passed.

And drugs. As many as recommended over the counter.

And Vaseline on a cracked, sore nose - if a cold isn't enough this adds insult to injury!

ukbliss2012 · 14/11/2014 02:11

Usually imodium, dry toast and tea with no milk.... in that order too!

emella · 14/11/2014 03:00

A nice hot drink is a must; usually the light chocolate Horlicks! I think chatting a lot with the people around me helps a lot, otherwise I just focus on how terrible I'm feeling. Distractions are always good, so I try to keep as occupied as possible. I snuggle in my dressing gown, put on some candles, and just pamper myself until I feel a bit better ;)

When I have a cold I like staying in bed, sleeping lots and watching on-demand telly while DH has the children.
DS (10 months) likes lots of cuddles and sleep. (He gets saline nose drops too, but he doesn't like these.)
DD (3yrs) likes to watch telly in her pyjamas and have lots of cuddles.
We all use albus oil and a vapour chest rub.

Laineyflo · 14/11/2014 06:19

Chicken soup, hot water with lemon and honey and a warm, fleecy blanket.

cristalfiona · 14/11/2014 07:18

Hot honey and lemon, and soup to keep my strength up

finleypop · 14/11/2014 07:39

Snuggling down to read a book normally makes me feel a little better. For my son, I would give him a warm bath, fresh sheets & lots of cuddles

howtoapproachthis · 14/11/2014 07:45

when i am free from looking after dd. when i have had a bath and am nice and clean. when i have a hot cuppa - usually hot water or tea if i can handle it.y

nerysw · 14/11/2014 08:04

Warm Ribena is a must and the sofa is the only place to be.

tompob1 · 14/11/2014 08:15

my mums home made one potato soup, its warming and hearty and always picks me up...she calls it 1 potato soup but it has lots of veg in it but just 1 potato

devito92 · 14/11/2014 08:27

a long hot bath

salsquiggle · 14/11/2014 08:50

Staying in bed, plenty of honey and lemon with peace and quiet. It would be lovely to be given time off running everybody else's lives for them, but that will never happen.

suzyq50 · 14/11/2014 09:11

Retreating to bed with a homemade hot lemon & honey drink (at night add a drop of whisky).

LizB62 · 14/11/2014 09:11

a cuddle always makes us feel better ! (usually under a duvet on the sofa)

phillie1 · 14/11/2014 09:35

baby890 · 14/11/2014 09:35

Laying on the couch in my jogging bottoms and a baggy t-shirt with a nice hot bowl of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup while watching a good movie.

lizd31 · 14/11/2014 11:17

whisky, honey & hot lemon
