British Turkey have asked us to find out how Mumsnetters use their leftover turkey during the festive season.

Here’s what they say, “British Turkey is a campaign to encourage people to eat more delicious British-farmed turkey both at Christmas and all year round. Turkey is a great versatile meat as it carries flavours really well, and what’s more, the breast meat is a really healthy choice as it is high in protein and lower in fat than any other mainstream meat so eating turkey makes perfect sense at family mealtimes and for those watching their weight. Look out for mince, breast fillets, steaks and diced thigh in supermarkets.

“However, Christmas is just around the corner and focus will be on buying traditional whole turkeys and large joints for the Big Day. British Turkey is here to help with everything you need to roast your turkey to perfection. We know that cooking a whole turkey for the Christmas table may seem a little daunting for some, but it certainly has its benefits. As well as having the most festive nostalgia, a whole bird is best value for money - for about the same price as a crown or a ready stuffed breast joint, you get the lovely leg meat. This means yummy cold cuts for Boxing Day and even enough leftovers enough to create a tasty dish for the freezer. So this Christmas plump for a whole turkey - you’ll get 3 meals in 1!”

So, do you buy a whole turkey for Christmas, or at another point during the season? If so, what do you do with the leftovers (or do you manage to finish the whole turkey on Christmas day?!)? Perhaps you make turkey sandwiches for lunch for the next few days? Or maybe you make a lovely turkey curry with the leftovers? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Everyone who adds their comments will be added into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks

lilrahi · 16/11/2014 23:45

Sandwiches, wraps, stir fries, curries, soup

tab1967 · 16/11/2014 23:49

We only have a crown now but I love just picking at the cold leftovers from the fridge.

glmcall123 · 16/11/2014 23:54

Turkey sandwiches with lots of lovely pickles.

cistolic · 17/11/2014 00:55

I have a whole Turkey at Christmas. I slice any leftovers ,cover with the turkey juices and freeze in containers. The carcass I add stock, vegetables herbs etc and make a pot of tasty soup.

chunkychocky · 17/11/2014 03:30

Who would manage to eat the whole turkey in one go?! We don't have a family big enough to manage that! So turkey sandwiches and turkey curry seem a good idea.

andmoreagain · 17/11/2014 05:27

I like to add the turkey leftovers to potato cakes along with any leftover veg.

roar349 · 17/11/2014 07:15

I love the brown meat, but we'll probably go for a crown this year, in which case there will be no leftovers...

grannybiker · 17/11/2014 08:28

I boil up the carcass to get a rich stock, then cook penne pasta in it, adding leftover meat and a drained can of sweetcorn just before the end

SuzfromSoton · 17/11/2014 08:34

Turkey sarnies and turkey curry. :-)

hannahlw85 · 17/11/2014 08:37

We stick to getting a crown so usually theres only enough left over for sandwiches the next day and having it cold with some chips for tea.

TiggersAngel7774 · 17/11/2014 09:14

We always go to Mum's or inlaws for Christmas dinner . So im more than happy for them to overload leftovers as love turkey, salad and chips on boxing day.
Or turkey and frozen roasties and veg is an easy dinner option too.
Not forgetting turkey sarnies Christmas night.
I love turkey but as my son wont eat it and starts asking from 9 am when can i see my nanny its best option for us to let our Mums look after us

mwatmough · 17/11/2014 09:17

Turkey sandwiches

chrisfc99 · 17/11/2014 09:41

I only buy a turkey breast as there are just 4 of us. Hopefully there will be none left, but if there is I'll make a Thai Red Turkey Curry, which we love.

lisapop · 17/11/2014 09:59

I like to make, Turkey green curry, Sandwiches & turkey soup with the bones .

snare · 17/11/2014 10:37

cornation chicken (turkey)!

janeoho · 17/11/2014 11:00

I mash it up with all other trimmings then fry it up and have it for breakfast

Flossiecrossie · 17/11/2014 11:29

If I'm doing the Christmas meal I make sure all my guests get to take away some left over turkey with them. What is left over is used on sandwiches (always a big hit) and of course we can't leave our 2 cats out, so they do pretty well out of it. x

knitnut24 · 17/11/2014 11:57

sandwiches, winter salad, and just nibbling on while watching TV

MillyVanilli222 · 17/11/2014 11:57

We slice turkey and serve it with lots of other odds and ends - bread, salad, pork pies, cheese, chutneys...it's one of my favourite Christmas meals!

jessicar922 · 17/11/2014 12:08

I do like to eat turkey because I have read it contains higher levels of tryptophan which helps to beat depression. So, all leftovers will go into soups or sandwiches... HOWEVER, I am soft-hearted which means that my two rescue greyhounds get plenty!

linheiner · 17/11/2014 12:32

Whole turkey and then the leftovers become Turkey and Cranberry with Mayo sandwiches, Creamy Turkey and Mushroom Pie with Puff Pastry top, Turkey Vindaloo Curry and Turkey, potato, leek and stilton soup!

happysouls · 17/11/2014 12:45

We never have traditional Christmas dinner, we have curry as that is our favourite meal. I might have a pub lunch with turkey sometimes but my partner doesn't really care for it. If I did cook turkey the leftovers would be used in sandwiches as I really like them, or more curry!!!
