British Turkey have asked us to find out how Mumsnetters use their leftover turkey during the festive season.

Here’s what they say, “British Turkey is a campaign to encourage people to eat more delicious British-farmed turkey both at Christmas and all year round. Turkey is a great versatile meat as it carries flavours really well, and what’s more, the breast meat is a really healthy choice as it is high in protein and lower in fat than any other mainstream meat so eating turkey makes perfect sense at family mealtimes and for those watching their weight. Look out for mince, breast fillets, steaks and diced thigh in supermarkets.

“However, Christmas is just around the corner and focus will be on buying traditional whole turkeys and large joints for the Big Day. British Turkey is here to help with everything you need to roast your turkey to perfection. We know that cooking a whole turkey for the Christmas table may seem a little daunting for some, but it certainly has its benefits. As well as having the most festive nostalgia, a whole bird is best value for money - for about the same price as a crown or a ready stuffed breast joint, you get the lovely leg meat. This means yummy cold cuts for Boxing Day and even enough leftovers enough to create a tasty dish for the freezer. So this Christmas plump for a whole turkey - you’ll get 3 meals in 1!”

So, do you buy a whole turkey for Christmas, or at another point during the season? If so, what do you do with the leftovers (or do you manage to finish the whole turkey on Christmas day?!)? Perhaps you make turkey sandwiches for lunch for the next few days? Or maybe you make a lovely turkey curry with the leftovers? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Everyone who adds their comments will be added into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks

Blondie1982 · 16/11/2014 18:17

Turkey, chips and gravy

IvyMay · 16/11/2014 18:28

I would definitely buy turkey more often if free range turkey was more freely available - you only see it at Christmas in our local supermarkets/butchers.

I'm fairly trad with the leftovers - definitely have cold sliced meat with ham, baked potatoes & homemade coleslaw on Boxing Day. And then the best thing to do with any other leftovers is to mix them into a stiff bechemal sauce, along with some veg and make a big, free form pie. Yum!

Well I love the leg the most so that's the bit I care about the most. The rest I don't care what happens to it lol. With the leg I tend to have it roasted.

I always get a full turkey,After our yummy christmas dinner, we pick on it, make sandwiches and when it really gets down to the bone we make a curry.

amelia4levi · 16/11/2014 18:57

BUBBLE & SQUEAK!! Says it all :D

GatoradeMeBitch · 16/11/2014 19:04

I always try not to overdo it at Christmas dinner, because Christmas day evening turkey sandwiches in front of the Doctor Who special is one of our Christmas highlights! I just add a dash of cranberry sauce usually, but maybe this year I will try to replicate the 'Moist-maker' from Friends - the middle slice of bread soaked in gravy. I keep meaning to!

Jezzamk · 16/11/2014 19:07

Any leftover turkey will be used with other cold meats on Boxing Day with mashed potato and pickles.

In the unlikley event that there is any left over after Boxing day it will be used for sandwiches.

Any fatty bits and skin do not go to waste as the cats will make very short work of it.

Pimmpom · 16/11/2014 19:12

Never usually much left but will have turkey and other cold meats the next day with pickles.

kel1981 · 16/11/2014 19:29

We love to make lots of turkey sandwiches with stuffing, they're always absolutely gorgeous! If there's any left over we'd also make a turkey curry. :) x

We have turkey baps on Christmas night then we have it cold with bubble and squeak on Boxing Day yum!

itsmeexxx · 16/11/2014 20:35

I make a curry or turkey and cranberry pasties but usually after christmas day and boxing day there often are no leftovers lol :-)

Loula117 · 16/11/2014 20:42

We tend to get a vast turkey to feed the hordes, then the leftovers are sandwiches for Christmas day evening, followed by everyone's favourite Boxing Day pie the next day. I think we all like that more than the Christmas dinner! It's turkey leftovers, left over pigs in blankets, stuffing balls, chestnuts etc in a white sauce with shortcrust pastry. It's the best!
