British Turkey have asked us to find out how Mumsnetters use their leftover turkey during the festive season.

Here’s what they say, “British Turkey is a campaign to encourage people to eat more delicious British-farmed turkey both at Christmas and all year round. Turkey is a great versatile meat as it carries flavours really well, and what’s more, the breast meat is a really healthy choice as it is high in protein and lower in fat than any other mainstream meat so eating turkey makes perfect sense at family mealtimes and for those watching their weight. Look out for mince, breast fillets, steaks and diced thigh in supermarkets.

“However, Christmas is just around the corner and focus will be on buying traditional whole turkeys and large joints for the Big Day. British Turkey is here to help with everything you need to roast your turkey to perfection. We know that cooking a whole turkey for the Christmas table may seem a little daunting for some, but it certainly has its benefits. As well as having the most festive nostalgia, a whole bird is best value for money - for about the same price as a crown or a ready stuffed breast joint, you get the lovely leg meat. This means yummy cold cuts for Boxing Day and even enough leftovers enough to create a tasty dish for the freezer. So this Christmas plump for a whole turkey - you’ll get 3 meals in 1!”

So, do you buy a whole turkey for Christmas, or at another point during the season? If so, what do you do with the leftovers (or do you manage to finish the whole turkey on Christmas day?!)? Perhaps you make turkey sandwiches for lunch for the next few days? Or maybe you make a lovely turkey curry with the leftovers? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Everyone who adds their comments will be added into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks

turkey and stuffing sandwiches for days!

powerup2 · 16/11/2014 20:43

We buy a whole turkey, but don't describe what we don't eat at the first meal as "leftovers"...always find that word is guaranteed to put people off (especially the children!). We buy a large joint or a bird each weekend knowing that it won't all be eaten at that first meal. The unused meat is then divided up into tubs and stored for husbands work and childrens school packed lunches...pasta bakes, sandwiches, risotto and more. The rest is kept for at least a couple more family evening meals each week. Never a scrap wasted!

a turkey cold meat platter / salad the evening of christmas day

gethro · 16/11/2014 21:07

Once the Christmas lunch is over the breast meat is normally running out, what left is used on Boxing day with pickles etc.
The legs and wings are used for Currys and in Chow Mein and of course sandwiches

brookson · 16/11/2014 21:18

sand74 · 16/11/2014 21:30

I use leftover turkey in a turkey and leek pie that Jamie Oliver did.We usually have it the day after boxing day with nice fresh veg and mash and it always goes down a treat.

thekidsmama · 16/11/2014 21:38

I'm so boring I just make turkey sandwiches, I love them too much to make anything else x

chrriss · 16/11/2014 21:46

It's Turkey & ham pie for us delicious

BooLoo13 · 16/11/2014 22:01

I make amazing turkey, mustard, ham sarnies - so yummy!

ellie17 · 16/11/2014 22:10

my mum does a fantastic turkey soup with the leftovers and its yummy!

Blondiebloo · 16/11/2014 22:15

Either Turkey and cranberry sandwiches, or if I've got time, a turkey curry.

happygelfling · 16/11/2014 22:16

We eat turkey throughout the year, but only buy a whole bird at Xmas.
Left overs become: curry, stock, soup, and risotto (with bacon).

Themilseys · 16/11/2014 22:18

We buy the same Turkey Crown from M & S every year - we always have 10 for dinner - and it's always lovely and moist. There's not normally much left over which is a good thing really as we then get invited to our guests houses for the rest of the Christmas holidays!

richyrowley · 16/11/2014 22:31

We usually use up the remaining turkey with salad's and sandwiches as we buy a smaller turkey it doesn't usually last beyond boxing day.

Gilla01 · 16/11/2014 22:41

I use the breast for meals and sandwiches and perhaps a stir fry. I strip the rest of the meat, make stock from the carcase, and make a big pot of soup. If I don't want to use all the meat I'll freeze some for later.

We love turkey soup. I make small dumplings sometimes and they go down very well.

katief1001 · 16/11/2014 22:44

turkey curry

kpdchudleigh · 16/11/2014 22:51

First of all I buy a crown to cut down on leftovers, but after cold cuts and sandwiches anything else goes into turkey and ham pie and delicious stew.

cookinmummy · 16/11/2014 22:51

I do as much as i can with it as its so pricey for a decent one from the Butchers. So we have sandwiches, then I curry some and then I make a batch of Jamies Olivers turkey con chilli with the rest, and then i use the carcass to make up some soup. x

daisyduck123 · 16/11/2014 23:00

We buy a large crown, have sandwiches and cold cuts with salad and pickles and then a creamy curry

Tonkatol · 16/11/2014 23:19

I love turkey and usually buy a large crown. After the traditional, roast turkey, turkey sandwiches and turkey with bubble and squeak have been eaten, I like to carve the remainder of the turkey and slice what I can. Slices are frozen for roast dinners in the coming weeks. Also we use some of the turkey to make either a curry or a pasta dish or fajitas. Turkey is so versatile and we love use it in the weeks following Christmas.

littlemisstrivia · 16/11/2014 23:20

Turkey sandwiches - it never seems to last as long as I think it will as my husband nibbles away at it constantly

lindsey3uk · 16/11/2014 23:32

turkey crown, and we have turkey sandwiches the next day :)

mamof3boys · 16/11/2014 23:37

If there is any left I will make a curry as it's the easiest option.
