We have all heard "old wives" tales about how to get pregnant and now the team at Clearblue would love to hear which ones you have heard of - and which you believe in and which are a load of tosh!

Inspired by threads like this, they'd also love you to share the myths/ pre conceived (gettit)! notions you had before you TTCed about DTD and trying to get pregnant - what was an absolute revelation to you once you entered the land of TTCing?

Clearblue say "At Clearblue we love hearing about the journey women go on when trying to get pregnant, and especially when our products have been able to help in some way, please do share your experiences on this thread!"

Everyone who posts will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Please note your comments and photos may be included on Clearblue's website and social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

take a warm bath after sex, there are so many it is hard to know which one to follow!

evahnt · 13/10/2014 14:48

I heard that after you have sex lay down with pillows propped underneath your lower back with your legs up in the air that helps the sperm to travel to the reproductive organs faster.

mrscumberbatch · 13/10/2014 17:16

Definitely the having sex when it's a full moon... Heard that or over and over.
One friend particularly adamant that the light of the moon helped you conceive... So god help your neighbours if they happen to look in your open curtains Wink

Emrob86 · 13/10/2014 18:01

I can't remember any old wife's tales about getting pregnant but heard loads about how you know the gender...

What works to help you get pregnant is knowing your cycle and having sex frequently (but only every second day) before and during your ovulation. Science! :)

Confused456 · 13/10/2014 21:13

You cannot get pregnant while breast feeding ah ah ah used this method as contraceptive and got preg 9months after my first child was born!

Daveface · 13/10/2014 21:58

I heard having an orgaism after sec helps "pull" the sperm up.

That's a lie isn't it?

Daveface · 13/10/2014 21:58

*orgasm even Blush

buckley1983 · 13/10/2014 22:05

I put my hand up to having raised legs in the air :/ It may have looked utterly ridiculous but it really did work!
I also bought ovulation sticks which worked a treat, although I remember my husband being rather disgusted by me leaving a pot of wee in the bathroom to cool to room temperature before I could test it - haha!
Oh the things we do to get preggers eh?
All worth it though :)

flapjack35 · 13/10/2014 23:02

Eat & drink dairy for a girl and red meat for a boy!

One of my cravings was for pasteurised milk, but this proved it was just a tale as I had a beautiful bouncing baby boy!

Tinyminx · 13/10/2014 23:19

The whole 'don't think about it'. Yeah, right. You've either got your period, think you're coming up to fertile time or waiting for your period (taking tests too early). Utter bollocks!

What I found after research though, and after 6 years of TTC and positive result from IVF, was the saliva ovulation kit. Our saliva forms ferning patterns when we ovulate, something even some medics don't know. I found with one of these that I ovulated very early, like day 8. Went at it like rabbits for 4 days and got a positive test on day 26. Had a healthy baby girl, family complete, matter years of unknown infertility. I wasn't infertile, I just ovulated early.

Best £25 I ever spent and I tell everyone who is TTC about it.

confuddledDOTcom · 14/10/2014 03:12

Dave, no the contractions in the womb encourage the sperm the right way. obviously you can get pregnant without orgasm but it has purpose. when you think about it a man doesn't need to orgasm either to get pregnant but it helps.

VickyRsuperstar · 14/10/2014 12:45

I haven't heard many OWT regarding TTC, but had heard a lot of people mention the pillow or legs in the air afterwards (never tried it) I thought it was something Drs recommended not a myth though LOL!

Getting rid of all the baby stuff for quite a few of my friends seemed to result in another pregnancy not long afterwards!

FrenchieMum2Be · 14/10/2014 14:05

That being in my early 30s would make conceiving difficult. We 'caught' really quickly and I admit I followed my mum's advice and kept my bum in the air after DTD Blush... Who knows if it did the trick or not?!

createbeauty · 14/10/2014 14:29

Morning sickness = boy
No morning sickness = girl

How does that work out? lol!

harrowgreen · 14/10/2014 14:35

Biggest myth: that it'll take a while, you'll need to time/plan it etc etc.

Total rubbish.

All three of ours were conceived first month of trying. In fact, only #2 took more than one 'attempt' (embarrassingly, for #1 and #3 we only had sex once in the relevant week those months, and in neither case did we know when I'd be ovulating: #1 was after coming off the pill and #3 was after stopping BF).

Probably not very good advertising for ClearBlue but it can (repeatedly) happen first time!!!

ChantelD93 · 14/10/2014 19:20

I was a bum in the air conceiver.
Also the notion that conceiving on a certain day means you'll have a certain sex baby.

vidd · 14/10/2014 21:02

I have heard of "the chair" and about the legs in air. I have just started TTC.. So willing to try anthing

MaryWestmacott · 14/10/2014 21:22

There was a pregnancy chair in my old office, 3 woman on the run were given that desk and got pregnant within 3 months of being in that desk. Then when the 3rd went off on mat leave, another female consultant swapped chairs from that desk, and she got pregnant within a couple a months!

They decided to fix this problem by giving the chair to a male researcher. His wife was pregnant within 6 months... I left after that, I've no idea who got the chair next.

patchysmum · 15/10/2014 02:32

I think the worst myth that sadly a lot of young girls still believe is that you cannot get pregnant the first time you have sex.

GoldfishSpy · 15/10/2014 03:26

Yes, bum in the air here too!

confuddledDOTcom · 15/10/2014 03:36

hairy babies and heartburn. all mine were premature so covered in hair and I had bad heartburn. if I'd gone to term I might not have had hairy babies Grin

jandoc · 15/10/2014 10:56

the one about having square eyes if you sit right in front of the telly is always a good one for children to be told

spiroo · 15/10/2014 17:11

Don't beleive in sex positions linked to conceiving boys or girls. Hmm

titchypumpkin · 15/10/2014 17:42

I never believed any old wives tales, if they were true they wouldn't be old wives tales would they?!

And yy to the contradictions....oh that bump means a girl....oh carrying lie that means a boy....uh-huh [hmmm]

yasmin0147 · 15/10/2014 19:57

I heard that eating pineapple helped with conception, total rubbish, i doubt its true.
