We have all heard "old wives" tales about how to get pregnant and now the team at Clearblue would love to hear which ones you have heard of - and which you believe in and which are a load of tosh!

Inspired by threads like this, they'd also love you to share the myths/ pre conceived (gettit)! notions you had before you TTCed about DTD and trying to get pregnant - what was an absolute revelation to you once you entered the land of TTCing?

Clearblue say "At Clearblue we love hearing about the journey women go on when trying to get pregnant, and especially when our products have been able to help in some way, please do share your experiences on this thread!"

Everyone who posts will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Please note your comments and photos may be included on Clearblue's website and social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Apparently having sex in the missionary makes girls?!?! Not sure where I heard that from. When we were TTC we were DTD a lot, it took over 6 mths then when we weren't trying we accidentally got pregnant again, 20 mths between them and we were barely DTD and there was no stress.

Bubbles85 · 10/10/2014 22:46

That it would take a long time to get pregnant after taking the pill. Nope we were pregnant straight away and we were not prepared for that!

VictoriaSt · 10/10/2014 23:08

legs/bum in the air after the act XD don't think so!

KittyKat88 · 11/10/2014 00:01

Elevating your bottom and staying 'in position' after the DH has given his best! That, and monitoring my ovulation cycle worked for us!

thewomaninwhite · 11/10/2014 00:02

That if you pregnant easily the first time then you would again.

firescorpion · 11/10/2014 00:13

Don't plan getting pregnant as trying adds stress also if your not planning on getting pregnant your bound to! Lol

hbakfam · 11/10/2014 03:36

The office chair which makes anyone who sits in it get pregnant - there certainly seems to be one in our office!

fourthandfinal · 11/10/2014 18:08

That it is actually easy to get pregnant..... Well, tbf, 1-3 took some work and help from a gynaecologist, #4 was a "let's see what happens" and three weeks later....Wink

cagsd · 11/10/2014 18:52

I actually think the "legs in the air" thing is not an old wives tale, I didn't do it when ttc my first baby and it took me 3 months to get pregnant; I DID do it with my second and third babies and got pregnant the first month, both times! Got to be something in it ;)

marshgirl · 11/10/2014 19:04

I agree with a lot of the above, chair, not stressing , healthy eating and exercise but for me on my 8th year of trying for no2 I don't believe in any of them.
Certain vitamins help with conception, tried most of them but it hasn't worked.
They say it is easier to get pregnant when you already have a child, so not true for me.

VroomOnTheBroom · 11/10/2014 19:31

We went with "just relax and it will happen" for number one. It took two years and only happened when I started to take it seriously and properly started marking dates off on the calendar! DH even got a telling off for wanking taking matters into his own hands one day during the ovulation period - I think I cried at him...

For number two I had the coil out this July and we hadn't really got around to trying properly (not-sleeping toddler = lack of opportunities to get down to some serious effort in the bedroom as we are shattered!) but I POAS last week - a ClearBlue stick as it happened - and it seems DC2 is joining us in June!

NelAllan · 11/10/2014 19:41

Legs in the air. Not sure that helps at all other than to give you numb feet.
Stop trying and it will happen. Obviously that's a load of rubbish.
More fertile men produce girls. Hmm, we only have boys..

zatuns · 11/10/2014 20:55

At school in the playground girls would say you could get pregnant standing up!! Naive me believed that me solely standing would get me pregnant!!

A friend of mine was told only to do 'it' with her eyes open and then she would fall pregnant.

pusinky · 11/10/2014 21:02

The myth that fertility falls off a cliff at 30

angela25rose · 12/10/2014 00:28

People would always say "go on holiday and forget all about children have a good time ,you will conceive and the sun helps "

louiseoc · 12/10/2014 09:29

While trying to conceive my second child I was told to not think about it and it would happen, well easier said than done right? It took 6 months to conceive my youngest son, had no problem with our first, it was within the first month. Started to get worried, as you do, then decided to throw our eldest son a birthday bash, was busy preparing and organising, not thinking about getting pregnant and sure enough, I fell pregnant! so perhaps there is madness to the method?

rainbowvalley · 12/10/2014 11:31

If you try too hard it won't happen? There's nothing wrong with trying however, I would say that you do need to be as healthy as possible because nature will not bring about a child in an unhealthy body if it can help it! I would say the more healthier you are, the more likely it will happen!!

badgermum · 12/10/2014 11:39

I think some of the "old wives" tales about how to get pregnant are hilarious like Have sex during a full moon possibly okay if you are trying for a werewolf and Use the missionary position only hmmm probably not the only way to get pregnant, I think the Go on a vacation one is probably the best if your relaxed and happy then you are probably more likely to fall pregnant, and as for the Take cough syrup errrr I dont think so.

confuddledDOTcom · 12/10/2014 12:28

no one had said arms in the air can cause the cord to get tangled, yet.

There's a lot that hcps tell you that are myths that annoy me. food and drink ones particularly. I was writing an article last year which I never finished that had my thoughts on a few myths.

Apparently someone found that women have more to do with the sex of the baby than men do because of the environment of that particular woman. so all the sex planning myths are useless but does explain why some women always do XYZ and always have girls.

jdunthorne · 12/10/2014 13:29

Standing on your head after sex to make the sperm swim the "right way"!!

Liquorice13 · 12/10/2014 13:31

One old wives tale was to drink grapefruit juice if you wanted to conceive, didn't try it but don't believe it!

nerysw · 12/10/2014 18:02

Trying to not to think about it too much and being happy when it happened worked for us.

crayola88 · 12/10/2014 18:22

The one that always sticks in my mind is the old "stand up if you want a boy" lolxx

Minnibix · 12/10/2014 20:54

Myth number one "don't worry you cant get pregnant first week after your TOM you can and I did. Myth number two, don't worry you cant get pregnant for 6 weeks after having a baby, oh yes you can and I did. Needless to say I went on the pill lol

lilmiztam22 · 12/10/2014 22:41

I find the myths about certain positions and doing certain things to conceive wanted gender which I think would be a complete disappointment if you'd gone to such trouble trying for a certain sex to end up with the opposite.
