We have all heard "old wives" tales about how to get pregnant and now the team at Clearblue would love to hear which ones you have heard of - and which you believe in and which are a load of tosh!

Inspired by threads like this, they'd also love you to share the myths/ pre conceived (gettit)! notions you had before you TTCed about DTD and trying to get pregnant - what was an absolute revelation to you once you entered the land of TTCing?

Clearblue say "At Clearblue we love hearing about the journey women go on when trying to get pregnant, and especially when our products have been able to help in some way, please do share your experiences on this thread!"

Everyone who posts will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Please note your comments and photos may be included on Clearblue's website and social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Legs in the air is obviously a fallacy.

Though at one point I was tempted to believe that one of the chairs at work really was the fertility maker - especially after I fell pregnant with my son after sitting in it. Of course I know it is a fallacy too, but still funny.

After years of trying, a new friend told me to drink peppermint tea. I guzzled it for a few weeks, and was pregnant. Coincidence? Who knows!

Standing on your head after sex.....yeah if only =D x

Having IVF, left in the room on my own with the 'embryo', I talked to 'it', asking it to be positive, only to be faintly embarrassed when the Doctor came back into the room with the 'real' embryo, using the 'syringe' I had spoken to to insert it.... worked very well... ended up with twins!!

sarah3875 · 19/10/2014 21:40

Too many to count and most of them are a load of rubbish really but I do think if you really believe in somethings it's much more likely to come true x

mamof3boys · 19/10/2014 21:47

Have sex during a full moon (?) and drink grapefruit juice. I have absolutely no idea how either of these are supposed to work.

grannybiker · 19/10/2014 22:06

Must be pretty painful for those TTC to be "Advised" by such experts. I was told it would take 6 months to get pregnant after being on the pill. She's a November baby rather than the spring baby we planned :/

Carriecakes80 · 19/10/2014 22:12

My mum told me,
"If you want a baby...
There's one really good thing you can do!"
She told me to eat dairy,
milk and cakes of the fairy,
and fed me cheese until I turned blue!
She told me that after 'copulating'
after any time we'd been 'mating!'
for me to stand on my head!
She said 'Gravity does work,
although you'll look like a berk,
And make sure you're adventurous in bed!"
I could have died,
think I did almost cry,
but my husband thought them all great ideas!
So we tried like she said,
(I even stood on my head!)
Then we had four kids in only six years!

I heard you need a diet high in potassium and sodium for a boy and a diet high in calcium and magnesium for a girl. No idea if it's true or not! :)

fairyprincess79 · 19/10/2014 22:39

It look us a while to get our BFP so did an awful lot of reading! To be honest, I tried most things - old wives tales or not. In hindsight, what really matters is the obvious! Knowing your body, knowing how to tell you high fertile times (this made for interesting reading!) and ensuring lots of BD'ing at the right time!

Gill81uk · 19/10/2014 22:40

I think it's a bit of a myth that it's harder to get pregnant after turning 30. I conceived very quickly with both of mine, as did several of my good friends.

tab1967 · 19/10/2014 22:53

I was lucky enough to fall pregnant easy. But after having three boys heard lots of tales about how to have a girl the best one was you only have a girl if you have sex in a certain position.

lexiemac13 · 19/10/2014 22:59

I was told once if the male gets on top during intercourse then you are guaranteed to get pregnant! Ha! I think all of the old wives tales are a load of rubbish really. A bit like all the things that supposedly bring on labour during pregnancy like eating pineapples, long walks etc!

aussiegeckogirl · 19/10/2014 23:14

Tonkatol · 19/10/2014 23:20

I was told it would take a while to conceive after coming off the pill and so when I got my period a couple of weeks before my wedding day on 29th October, I came off the pill. By the time I came home from honeymoon, I just knew I was pregnant as I was exhausted and feeling very sick and had been unable to drink alcohol towards the end of the holiday. Sure enough, my first daughter was born in July the following year. Therefore, I don't believe it takes a while to conceive after coming off the pill, but I do think there is some truth in the old wives' tale that you are more likely to conceive if you forget about it. However, at the same time, I know only too well that, in most cases, if you are trying, you can't help thinking about it and the longer you take to conceive, the more it is on your mind

diammondgirlz2013 · 20/10/2014 00:02

lol i remember being told to do a handstand after sex n stay that way for 10 minutes............ OBVIOUSLY i never tried it I mean come on I like blood rushing some places BUT my head aint 1 of them hehehehe

robyn297 · 20/10/2014 00:35

Just give up and it'll happen. Sort of worked for us, we moved house and there was too much going on for me to obsess about ttc and 2 weeks after the move I had a BFP!

custardcream1000 · 20/10/2014 01:07

I have not heard any myths about getting pregnant itself, but lots of different theories to determine the sex of the baby. I don't personally believe any of them are true.

emweaver84 · 20/10/2014 01:11

I never believed any of the old wives tales . In fact the only ones I heard of was to determine the sex, none about conception.

chrriss · 20/10/2014 02:37

House bricks under the end of the bed whoop mmm did it work I think not. but buying a new car did ouch couldn't afford both LOL

cathyov · 20/10/2014 04:27

You cannot get pregnant when you are breastfeeding - daughter number two proved this one wrong!

DrankSangriaInThePark · 20/10/2014 09:31

You cannot get pregnant on your period. Unlike my best friend, who did, twice.

At 38 and always having had super light periods I had been told I was unlikely to conceive quickly.

Came off the pill in December, missed January's period. Did pregnancy test on Feb 15th. Bingo.
