Drink plenty of water, avoid too much sun exposure & moisturise daily.

Don't pump your mascara, it forces air in which dries it out quicker than it should do.
And you can use conditioner instead of foam to shave, it makes what's left of your hair softer and silky rather than stubbly

Vaseline is great for youthful eyes!!! Forget expensive eye creams and slather on some Vaseline at night instead. :)

Drinking lots of water definitely makes a difference to my skin. At times when I know I haven't drunk enough, my skin looks dull and blotchy. Bathing my eyes with cold black tea helps to reduce puffiness.

  1. Always remove ALL of your make up before bed
  2. A mug of hot water with freshly squeezed lemon in the morning! (Not nice but good for the skin)
  3. Drink lots of water throughout the day
  4. Eat lots of vitamin E rich foods ie almonds
  5. Once you've picked a spot (because you know you will) make sure you clean the surrounding area and treat it with a good anti redness treatment (I like tea tree oil cream)

Not a beauty tip per se but here is how I minimise cold sores and it not only works beautifully, it reduces pain too.

I use Acyclovir cream obviously but when I get a break out after applying the Acyclovir I absolutely smother the cold sore with a thick heavy lip salve. You want the really dense stick type. I keep the cold sore covered with the balm at all times and this stops it from crusting over and therefore the risk of cracking and bleeding is minimised.

Every time I do this the sore just seems to disappear. Its usual life cycle is eliminated and it just fades away without leaving you looking as if you have a cornflake stuck to your mouth. Make sure you throw away the lip salve afterwards though and buy a new one though as the viral load will be sky high.

Other tips -

Eye whitening drops like Visine are great for small spots and red blemishes especially if you keep them in a fridge.

Play with make up but don't be a slave to it. Make up should be fun. I love seeing women wearing bright colours whether it be a slick of hot pink lipstick or a bit of eyebrow grooming on a man. And yyy to eyebrow grooming. If your children want to do it, the best recommendation is to take them to learn how to do it so they don't end up like Liz Jones with two penciled in Pierrot style arches. Well shaped eyebrows are key to a face and you won't need to wear make up if your brows look good. Ignore fashions in brows- have what suits your face.

Bombard beauty companies with requests to have more make up for non Cauc skins and adverts that reflect different skin colours. We want all our daughters and sons to see themselves included in the dialogue.

If you are Caucasian and have dry skin and hair then check out the products for Afro hair. They work so well. Ask hairdressers who tend Afro hair for advice too.

A silk pillowcase is brilliant for sleeping upon. No face creases.

Never never never wear foundation unless you have bad blemishes and feel you cannot be without it. I personally don't have any issues with seeing skin that has spots or even Acne but understand that suffererers may be too self conscious to manage without it. I don't see it as unattractive. Better off wearing a sun block or moisturiser with sun block as the argument that foundation is protective is a disingenuous one- just wear sun screen.

No foundation ever looks natural in day light. No foundation truly 'melts into your skin tone'. No foundation ever looks like 'skin, only better'. People who think nobody can tell they are wearing it are kidding themselves. Since when did we allow the beauty industry to tell us there is something inherently wrong with our natural skin tone?

Drink plenty, don't smoke, limit alcohol (because it is obvious from your face if you drink 1/3 to half a bottle several times per week), get out for a walk and deal with that stress. Good skin doesn't come from a product although it can show it off to best effect.

Check out the Old Skool products- Ponds Cold Cream, Nivea, Astral, Eau Jeune, 4711 cologne ice sticks kept in the fridge, Boots Cucumber skin products. They are still around I think because they work.

Beauty companies talk a load of crap. Ignore the pseudo science. Does it smell lovely? Can you afford it? Does it contain nasty ingredients such as sulfates and parabens? Does it last?

My eye doctor says he is seeing more people with blocked Mebium glands in their eyes and is conducting research into the possible effects of silicon bases in eyeliners. He is suspicious that they may play a role in this. I stopped using a Bobbi Brown eyeliner gel when my Mebium glands blocked and stopped working. After cessation of six months and daily eyelid massage/hot packs they have started working again but I am very careful of some of these products. They set like cement and plug follicles/mebium glands.

£10 facial steamer from Argos with a few drops of rosewater in it during winter and rosewater spray on a hot day - so cooling and soothing.

Use moisturiser with SP15 in it all year long. That way you don't need a stronger factor when the sunshine comes as your skin has built up some tolerance whilst being protected.

Big sunglasses stop crows' feet from developing.

Put a tube of handcream by every basin in the house. We wash our hands dozens of times a day as parents. If you moisturise them every time you wash them, they don't dry out.

I use cleanser in the shower as part of my morning routine which has helped my spots disappear massively. SPF is in my moisturiser so at least there is less chance of accidentally burning. I try not to dye my hair too much and it's so much healthier now.

Don't use a magnifying mirror because you'll end up focussing upon tiny imperfections which will really knock your confidence. Limit the number of times you look in the mirror each day and you'll feel much happier which will make you a beautiful person to be with.

Sunscreen, and dont forget that vulnerable between the breasts / cleavage area that always takes the full impact of the sun and needs protection!
Sleep, never under estimate the power of sleep - just look at photos of you pre children and you will see how years of not sleeping well take their toll!

Don't use that certain cleanser that is marketed mainly for teenage or younger skin, that is supposed to target spot prone skin, used to be bright blue and medicated. It is too harsh, like paintstripper for your skin, you might be very impressed with how it gets the dirt off but it strips your skin of all the natural oils, so your skin tries to replace them, then you just strip it again and what happens is your skin goes into overproduction and you end up with greasier and more spot prone skin. I used it when I was younger and only stopped it when a beautician on a make up and skin care evening course I went on pointed out how inflamed and angry my skin looked and explained why. Within only a week of stopping it my skin looked so much better. There are plenty of reasonably priced gentle cleansers and toners out there you can use if you are on a budget, the item you don't want to skimp on is having a really good quality moisturiser. Actually instead of toner you can pop some damp cotton pads in a sealed bag or container and pop them in the fridge and use them instead, they are just to close up your pores after cleaning and wipe away any last traces of cleanser.

I have incredibly sensitive, dry skin and I have to be really careful what I use as I have been known to develop eczema on my face after a (Dead Sea mud or similar) facial!! I find coconut oil is amazing at removing make up, especially mascara, and once I've wiped it off I apply more as a moisturiser.

Also I used to have really dry skin on my elbows, but now, every time I moisturise my face, I rub any excess on my elbows so now they're always soft!!

Use hand cream every single time you wash your hands. I wash my hands up to thirty times per day just when I am at work and otherwise my skin would be a nightmare. Use good quality stuff, keep it in your handbag/pocket, and at home I have some by every sink. Also exfoliate your hands about once a week, I just use my facial scrub. If you look after your face then look after your hands too, or they will give away your age instead!

Get a skincare regime that is suited to your skin type, be it dry, oily, combination or sensitive and STICK TO IT. Your skin will not looked polished if you only exfoliate on the day of a special occasion/ night out. Plenty of good quality sleep and fluids are also key when it comes to looking fresh, as is SPF in foundation or suncream with regards to long-term skincare.

In terms of make-up, have you heard of fibre, brush-on lashes? They are fantastic. I use Divaderme (bought on eBay) brush on lashes. You apply a basecoat mascara (I prefer to use cheap mascara as the 'Wow' factor is in the fibres) and then brush on the fibres, and then seal when dry with another coat of mascara. The lashes are especially good for women who are perhaps a bit older and sparse in the lash department, and also where a thick set of falsies might not b appropriate, e.g in the workplace.

A cheap beauty blender (a dense, egg-like sponge) is fab for applying foundation, and in my opinion (and many MUAs) they are better than brushes when it comes to application as the end result is much more polishes and doesn't leave brush marks. If you do purchase a blender, then get one off of eBay for a quid as they are essentially the same as the higher priced ones, and make sure it is damp so the sponge doesn't absorb most of the product.

A good way to work out which eyeshadow will make your eye colour 'pop' is to look as a colour wheel- a colour at the direct opposite side of the wheel will make your eyes stand out. My Mum has pale, almost lime green eyes so when she wears smokey plum eyeshadow, they look amazing.

I always drink plenty of water which has had a great effect on my skin. It seems brighter and less prone to the dry patches that I tend to get on my jaw line. I embrace pale skin and stay out of the sun. I wear sun hats and a high factor suncream. I almost always remove my makeup before bed. I use coconut oil for everything! (hair, face, body...) its a miracle what a difference it makes.

One tablespoonful of coconut oil dissolved in water three times a day works wonders for skin and hair and general energy levels. Follow this with the Sanctuary salt scrub for really glowing well moisturised skin twice a week and life is good! Really I think this combination is the miracle cure... Oh, and argan oil shampoo + conditioner is good too.

Keep it kind to the skin, the environment and the soul and all natural...

Really important to feed the soul too in my opinion, so meditate on a proverb, for example

'let love and faithfulness never leave you, bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, then you will win favour and a good name in the eyes of god and man.'

Try a DIY oatmilk bomb. Wrap a couple of spoonfuls of oats in a muslin cloth tie it tightly run the bath water through the oat bomb to create a gorgeously moisturising oat milk bath. Squeeze some of the oatmilk out of the bomb and decant into a small dropper bottle to keep in the fridge. A beautifully effective moisturizing and calming oatmilk toner. Costs you pennies too!
