use as few products as possible - who needs all that gunk?
Sleep enough.

BigFairy · 14/05/2014 16:58

Always protect yourself from the sun even when it's not particularly sunny: day cream with SPF, also applied to neck and decolletage, and use a hand cream with SPF. Face, neck and hands get a lot of exposure so doing this really helps. Obviously use proper sun screen when necessary - just important not to underestimate the amount of damage that can occur all year round.

I have to "listen" to what my skin needs and not be seduced by what my vanity wants. My skin needs lots of moisture, not much make up, no new products without care and a little bit of sun every now and then (I live in a Scotland, so we are talking occasionally).

My vanity wants every new product that might just transform me into a raving, wrinkle free beauty with a fabulous lifestyle - all down to my new cream / lipstick/ expensive item.

Always always use SPF
Don't over exfoliate - once a week if enough
Use a facial oil under your moisturiser as you get a little older!
I swear by argan oil for curly hair

mumsbe · 14/05/2014 20:49

Cover yourself in baby oil leave for a few minutes and then wash off in the shower use a body moisturiser when you get out let it soak into your skin
Cold tea bags on the eyes is nice to get rid of bags as well as oats in yogurt as a face scrub.
Make sure you find time to laugh everyday its good for your tummy muscles
Find time to have a walk and get some freshair the excersize will make your skin glow

Valdeeves · 14/05/2014 21:31

Running, lots of water and avocado oil to moisturise

Pinter · 14/05/2014 22:46

Drink hot water with lemon first thing. Sets you up for the day

Drink water. Easier to drink if it's hot during cold months

Always have a bottle of water about your person so it's easier to keep hydrated

Here are my tips:

Eat plenty of fruit, veg and drink lots of water. Cut out on caffeine.
Massage your hair and face with coconut oil at least once a week. Great for the skin and keeps your hair silky and strengths it too.
Make time to pamper yourself after the kids are in bed, even if is for about 15 minutes, with a face mask or a body scrub.
Have at least 8 hours of sleep a night.
Try and do a bit of yoga and/or meditation (I use a DVD or youTube). It does wonders for your well-being and makes you less of a stressed mummy!

Sleep lots impossible with waking toddler and pregnancy
take your make up off with something other than a baby wipe too tired most nights to take it off, and most days to put it on!

I actually love Sanctuary Spa's Therapist's Secret Facial Oil. Put it on at night when I remember and my skin is soft but not greasy the next day. Feels like a bit of pampering.

NotAgainAndAgain · 15/05/2014 18:53

whenever cucumber comes on your "today's menu", the first slice goes as a face wipe (providing no make up on it), the next two - for your elbows, and only after - slice to your heart content for the salad (for this reason I always go organic cucumber, even if other stuff would be non-organic).

NotAgainAndAgain · 15/05/2014 18:57

And long live Hot Sugar Scrub from Sanctuary - my ultimate hard day's luxury.

NotAgainAndAgain · 15/05/2014 19:01

Try to find enough time to brush your hair (with a decent brush) - not expensive but priceless head massage with a benefit of hair care (my granma''s tip, 30 strokes a pop - like a prayer thank you very much) Grin

LadyWithLapdog · 15/05/2014 19:02

Don't smoke. Remember to smile.

hunhun007 · 15/05/2014 19:09

Smile!
This is my best beauty tip I can offer and it is free!
No matter your daily routine, make-up, hair style... you will always look much more beautiful, younger and more attractive with a smile on your face.
So... smile! :-)

I use a deep conditioner or hair mask in the shower at least once a week. If you shampoo at the start and then put it on instead of normal conditioner it doesn't take any longer than usual, and most of them say to leave in for 3-5 minutes so by the time you've washed everything else you can just rinse it out and have nice shiny hair.

GrasshopperNchipmunk · 15/05/2014 20:42

I just about manage to do the basics. I drink a lot of water and always remove my make up, cleanse and moisterise before bed. I also eat healthily.

I used to use the fresh face masks they sold at LUSH and these were lovely on my skin, oh how I wish I could afford to 'treat' my skin now.

I wish I had more time to dedicate to looking after my skin :-( With three kids under 3yrs, I've not had a proper nights sleep for years - Feel like a zombie!

serendipity1980 · 15/05/2014 21:13

I have just started using Argan oil on my face this week and it is amazing! I cannot believe how soft my skin feels and how much smoother. I don't know what the other benefits are yet because I haven't been using it long enough but I love it. It's not expensive and three drops cover my face which means a little goes a very long way!

PlumpPartridge · 15/05/2014 21:30

If your skin is dry but also prone to spots if over-moisturised, use a cheap moisturiser (I like Boots own brand or Tesco) every other day and keep a tube of exfoliator scrub handy for occasional spot patrol.

If you don't want to cover your whole face in moisturiser, just dab a bit around your eyes (esp that dry bit in the corner). Makes me feel awake!

Drink water. Lots of it.

nerysw · 15/05/2014 21:58

Use a moisturiser morning and evening. I aim to remove make up every night but in reality I'm far too tired/lazy to stick to it religiously.

Awks · 15/05/2014 22:12

Everything you do to your face, do to your neck too. I'm 48 and wish I had heeded this advice from the start. I've been doing it for about 5 years now though, and am staying off the Madge from Benidorm look so far.

shoeprincess2 · 15/05/2014 22:29

When your face is feeling dehydrated and looking it too, put a hydrating face mask on and sleep in it. You will wake up with a gorgeously plump face. Let your moisturiser sink in for 10 minutes before applying makeup; it really makes a difference. A little bit of bronzer makes a difference too.

lolancurly · 16/05/2014 07:16

Well, I know that I should drink lots of water and eat lots of fruit n veg and not live on toast, tea and wine. However, I think the single thing that affects my skin and looks more than anything else is lack of sleep. Over the last ten years I have suffered with very poor sleep ranging up to chronic insomnia at times. Having a child in my mid forties was definitely NOT good for my skin! Little sleep and tiredness have led to very dark shadows and my features are steadily sliding down to my chin. The other most sensible skin care thing I believe in is not to sunbathe and try at all costs to shield and protect my face from the sun; age spots are not sexy. I also always make sure I slather sun cream on the backs of my hands for this very same reason.

ataraxia · 16/05/2014 07:26

I avoid products with parabens or SLS in.

deels · 16/05/2014 09:22

drink lots of water! for soft feet plster your feet in vaseline and put on some socks, in the morning you will feel like you have had a foot transplant!

SaltySeaBird · 16/05/2014 09:59

Always use a product with SPF to protect against the sun.

Drink lots of water.

Do some enough exercise to get you sweaty at least a couple of times a week.

Pay attention to what's in you food. A short list of ingredients is generally better.
