Hello. We been asked by IKEA to find out who you reckon is the messiest person in your house.

Do you agree with comedian Tiffany Stevenson, who says, in the new IKEA ad, that "the only thing a man will ever clear out is his internet history"?

Or do you wince with Blush recognition at Paul Pirie's umbraged-male retort: "Shoes, shoes, shoes! What are you, a centipede?"

Please post on this thread to tell us who's the 'floordrobe'-owner in your house - the more scruffy, cluttery, bomb-gone-off detail, the better! Everyone who does will be in with a chance to win £100 in IKEA vouchers.

Oh, and IKEA is running a Facebook poll, too, if you fancy casting your vote.

Thanks - and good luck! MNHQ

Me, without a doubt. Which, given that DS is only 2, is quite something.

Lcy · 01/04/2011 20:22

Me Blush

NeatFreak · 01/04/2011 20:22

My dh without a doubt. He steps over mess, leaves his ironed clothes in a heap on the floor and drives me mad. 3 yo and 7 yo are tidier!

Sexonlegs · 01/04/2011 20:25

My dh is a nightmare.

He leaves plates etc on the side, even though we have a dishwasher, crumbs EVERYWHERE when he has made his sarnies, and sock drawers left open with the contents spilling out.

Stubble left around the sink - YUCK!!!

MrsTittleMouse · 01/04/2011 20:30

Me, definitely me. Blush
I am much improved from my student days, but that isn't saying much.

DH is thrilled that DD2 is excited about tidying up and gets upset when things are messy. He has suggested splitting the house in two, half for me and DD1 to be drowing in clutter, and half for him and neat-freak DD2. Grin

NorkyButNice · 01/04/2011 20:33

Me (unfortunately).

The kids are 3 and under so they make the usual mess but it all gets cleared up every night.

DH tidies up constantly. I don't!

NorthernGobshite · 01/04/2011 20:35

Husband. He thinks the faeries do it instead.

MrsChemist · 01/04/2011 20:38

Me Blush DH is very picky about the cleanliness of the kitchen in particular.

We both contribute to the floordrobe though.

hotcrossbunny · 01/04/2011 20:39

It's a toss up between dh and dd(7)

When I first started going out with dh I was asked by his flatmates if I knew what I was getting involved with! He had a huge room in student digs, and every spare inch of floor space was covered Shock He had an entirely empty wardrobe... I had to leap from the doorway, sort of fly/hover over the detritus and land in a heap on the bed so that I didn't sink into the morass never to be seen again. I really should have known that I'd be fighting a losing battle ever since.

7 years ago dd was born. In vain I hoped she'd take after me and be vaguely tidy. Unfortunately, along with dh's good looks, she's inherited his ability to trash any space in a remarkably short space of time. She's currently decamped to the spare room as, mystified, she wailed she couldn't see her bed!

I give up! (Some lovely new IKEA storage might help me though...)

WhipMeIndiana · 01/04/2011 20:41

'Tis I. I do have a wardrobe but it is such an effort to open the doors when I am cream-crackered from a whole day looking after my 2 year old W.M.D.

The 'Floordrobe' works for me as I can see at a glance where my jeans are, and my favourite top and slide straight into them in the morning!

My 4yr old has brilliant storage in her room, with all of her jigsaws/dress-up crowns etc in their seperate boxes, she takes after her dad.

But the W.M.D and I just don't get time to tidy, it's far more fun to bash and crash about - there is nothing more soul-destroying than trying to tidy up after a toddler and then watching them joyfully wreck it again.
I decided - If I can't beat him, I may as well join him!

TONKINS · 01/04/2011 20:45

Hmmmm, think its DS, he is by far the messiest, I clean up (occasionally!) and he makes more mess behind me. The difference between me & dh is that I can live with mess & he cant - OCD with the washing up springs to mind!

KristinaM · 01/04/2011 20:47

all the children really. i cant choose one, it woundn't be fair

MaryBS · 01/04/2011 20:51

11yo DD. She hangs her clothes on the floor, then tidies up by putting them all to be washed again, even though they've not been worn. And she's still at the age where she plays with lego stuff. Not to mention the CDs she's been listening to, the books she's been reading, the homework she's always losing in the mess, the hair accessories, etc etc. I can't even remember what colour her carpet is!

Albrecht · 01/04/2011 20:53

Me.

I'm teaching myself to cook for ds's benefit. While I was looking at this thread the milk for the rice pudding I'm trying to make for tomorrow boiled over and while trying to mop it up with kitchen roll, the paper went on fire. The kitchen looks lovely now... Confused

tallulah · 01/04/2011 20:56

Sadly we are all as bad as each-other. DS likes wires; I have paper; DH chucks his dirty clothes everywhere and DD gets all her toys out as fast as we can put them away.

happygilmore · 01/04/2011 20:56

Definitely me. It's my guilty secret how messy I am, don't know how DH puts up with me (although he's no Andrea Turner himself, but a little better than me at least!)

shufflebum · 01/04/2011 20:58

It's a close run thing between me and DH but I think it's me. Silly really as I do all the tidying so I just make more work for myself. As long as I don't nag DH to do any DIY he manages to keep things vaguely tidy.
DS (2) on the other hand is anal about having to have everything in the right place, not quite sure who he inherited that from?

HannahHack · 01/04/2011 20:59

We are not too bad, DP leaves everything were he had it, you can find him by following the paper trail. However, we moved in together from shared accomodation and NOTHING is as bad as that.

However, did just spend an hour tidying in our tiny flat!

ElenStone · 01/04/2011 21:02

My 11 year old son. His floor is currently covered with guitar practice books, empty carrier bags, a few cups and side plates, toy swords and crossbows, football cards, pokemon cards, clothes, coats, clothes hangers and all the stuff underneath that which could, for all I know, be the lost treasure of the Sierra Madre. It's been around that long since we last seen his floor and with all the practice I've had trying to cross it, I could seriously leave home and take up with a circus. There's more space on that tightrope than there is on his floor.

My partner's not much better though, the floor on his side of the bed is a definite floordrobe and he has an awful habit of leaving anything in his pockets on top of the bookcase when he comes in, so my nice clean expedit unit which used to have nice tealights on top is now so cluttered with receipts and other crap I daren't light one in case I burn the house down. He's the same in the kitchen, he leaves wrappers everywhere and never puts dirty dishes by the sink and he always leaves cups, glasses, plates and any other crap he's used all over the living room.

I want a new expedit unit with boxes, so I can assign them both one side with 8 boxes each to organise their crap in and tell them anything they can't fit in there is going. It'd be so nice to remember what the house looked like before they combined forces to make it look like a scene from Labyrinth :)

EsioTrot · 01/04/2011 21:03

Hmmm could be 5 year old DS. One of his favourite games is empty out 3 toy storage boxes to make a helicopter, or take the drawers out of his chest of drawers to make a dog kennel :) In his defence he is good at tidying up too!

Or maybe 1 year old DD. She loves pulling all the books off the shelf and taking all of the tupperware out all over the kitchen.

Actually, I think it's me. I'm a pretty efficient tidier but an even better messer-upper. I'm a clutter magnet.

DH is definitely the tidiest!

QOD · 01/04/2011 21:04

My husband. My lovely DD sick all over our bathroom carpet. I picked out the carrots and peas imbedded in the carpet pile, I soaked it, dried it, sprayed it, combed it. Perfection.
DH decides to have a nice relaxing bath with a giant cup of frothy coffee..... drops it in a spectacular fashion....... new carpet, whole bathroom redecoration required........ we recently changed the light bulb in the sealed light unit and it had coffee splashes.......

General mess? Probably me........ but I will have to kill you all now I have admitted this! I can't throw stuff out, I collect and save boxes, jars and bags and I use every pan in the kitchen when I cook. Yet I complain and blame everyone else.

joeygrey · 01/04/2011 21:06

My cats! They trail their food all over the floor and their toys all over the house. I spend more time clearing up after them than anyone else!

bosch · 01/04/2011 21:06

Me! Dh gets depressed when house is untidy. I get depressed when house is dirty. Oh boy does it get glum around here sometimes!

paulaplumpbottom · 01/04/2011 21:08

The messiest person in our house is my 2 year old. He stands head and shoulders above the rest of us when it comes to yucky, sticky messes. This is mostly because he refuses to eat sitting down and roams the house with his food. The yogurt is the worst. He knows I make him sit at the table so he sneaks to the fridge and slips one out. He then roams the house licking it out of the tub. Most of it usually ends up on the carpet. I find half eaten apples and carrots behind sofas and doors. He also likes to cast off nappies and hide them. I sometimes don't find them for weeks and I'm sure you can imagine how pleasant that us.
When it comes to a messy wardrobe, I am the naughty one. I actually have a room that serves as a closet. I bet you think this would keep things tidy but you would be very wrong. Shoes, accessories and piles of clothes litter every surface. You have to wade through the room. It's horrendous. I found a pile of clothes the other day that were all a size twelve. I haven't been a size 12 for seven years.

clairecymru · 01/04/2011 21:11

My husband just doesn't see the mess. I don't understand why he cannot put his dirty clothes in the laundry bin but will quite happily put them on the floor next to the laundry bin.
