Channel 4 have asked Mumsnet to find out what you think about their new series of One Born Every Minute (starting today, Monday 10th January at 9pm). We've recruited a special panel of volunteer viewers to add their comments to this thread. The panel are a mix of Mumsnetters, all of whom are parents, some pregnant, some not, some have seen the programme before, others haven't.

They would also love any other Mumsnetters - ie folks NOT in the panel - to add their comments here. Anyone who contributes to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner, drawn at random, will win a £50 Amazon voucher.

We'll also be having a thread after the second programme, next Monday.

So, please post your thoughts and comments on the programme below. We'd welcome 'live' feedback during the broadcast as well as a comment at the end. If you can't post during the broadcast please add your thoughts by the end of Tues Jan 11th.

If you are a panel member please identify yourself as one when you first post.

Many thanks and enjoy!

My god. I'm in pieces after that. Lovely stories - what a great series. Ralph, bless him - what a sweet lad. And Janet was a total trooper.

You wouldn't feel so Envy if you watched my OBAC clip and listened to my screams.

gingercat12 · 10/01/2011 22:04

I could not wait for the programme to start.
Especially like the young lad wanting a hug aand then just cuddling his baby.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 22:04

I agree Swaliswan Sometimes I do think we all get so wrapped up in mum that we forget about dad and how hard it can be for them.
Like poor Ralph there saying he felt so powerless

I wonder if there are some extra clips on the life begins site that would fill us in on Janet's c-section?

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 22:07

I wondered whether Janet had an assisted delivery in theatre in the end.

MrsShrekTheThird · 10/01/2011 22:07

My DH was brilliant too - could not have done it without him. The more experienced mw's were saying that a dad on the ward used to be a rarity - my niece is now 28 and my BIL being there was apparently a bit weird at the time, they chucked him out as soon as DN was born so he could "make phone calls" (whether he wanted to or not Grin) Glad things have moved on these days!! Yes I like the way they show the dads experiences so well too.

MrsShrekTheThird · 10/01/2011 22:08

swaliswan I thought that too - poss ventouse as the baby seemed to have a bit of bruising on his head.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 22:09

I do def think that for each episode, they should try to balance out each labour and delivery.
We all know that every experience is different, but that can be difficult to remember if you are faced with going into labour very soon.
I think that in order to help everyone feel and see they will get through it fine, it'd be nice to show a distressed, vocal labour like Stephs and then a labour that was a bit easier iykwim.

What a wonderful programme. I wouldn't change any of it. Can't wait for the water birth next week.

ooh swaliswan, I watched it (but no idea which one was you, obv Grin)

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 22:10

The life begins website isn't working so I can't see the extra video clips atm.

I thought it was fantastic. I cried from start to finish. Seeing labour and birth is so moving and one of the most wonderful things in the world. Janet was so calm! Her labour/birth was very simialr to mine, although I was on my birthing ball and upright throughout - I could not bear to stay on my back, the pain was unbearale for me lying down but sitting upright I was able to manage it more.

Looking forward to next week and seeing the water birth. I love swimming and baths and would really like to consider a water birth next time so it'll be great to see...wish I could look that good in a bikini when I'm not pregnant though!

Poor Ralph looked so vulnerable. Tonights show really portrayed how Dad's feel. I think that despite being quite annoying he was really quite supportive. He did really well IMO.

TheLogLady · 10/01/2011 22:11

Dad 1. ASD?

MrsShrekTheThird · 10/01/2011 22:11

x-post ....grrrr, have we crashed it then Grin

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 22:12

I don't think so loglady

harverina · 10/01/2011 22:12

Mrsshrek, me too! Last series I was pregnant with my first DC and loved going on the website. I got loads of info from it - after I was told I was going to be booked in for an induction I spent hours watching videos and reading the website and got loads of fantastic info.

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 22:13

Grin MrsShrek

All three of my labours were different. I got louder each time Grin I never did manage to labour for long enough to get into the pool and try to become a bit more peaceful again.

TheLogLady · 10/01/2011 22:14

GET OFF THE BLOODY BED!¬

I'm shouting it already and I'm only 5 minutes in.

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 22:15

You're going to keep shouting that, LogLady.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 22:15

Right, off to bed.
See you all next week Grin

MrsShrekTheThird · 10/01/2011 22:17

ahhh, loglady, you're on +1 then
