Channel 4 have asked Mumsnet to find out what you think about their new series of One Born Every Minute (starting today, Monday 10th January at 9pm). We've recruited a special panel of volunteer viewers to add their comments to this thread. The panel are a mix of Mumsnetters, all of whom are parents, some pregnant, some not, some have seen the programme before, others haven't.

They would also love any other Mumsnetters - ie folks NOT in the panel - to add their comments here. Anyone who contributes to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner, drawn at random, will win a £50 Amazon voucher.

We'll also be having a thread after the second programme, next Monday.

So, please post your thoughts and comments on the programme below. We'd welcome 'live' feedback during the broadcast as well as a comment at the end. If you can't post during the broadcast please add your thoughts by the end of Tues Jan 11th.

If you are a panel member please identify yourself as one when you first post.

Many thanks and enjoy!

I'm off to re-watch DS being born while we have snuggly feeding time. See you all next week.

TheLogLady · 10/01/2011 22:17

grrrrrrr

Hiya,

Panel memeber here :)

I couldn't post whilst show was on as we woyur PC screen is outr TV Confused

Anyways, I bloody LOVE this programme, I could genuinly watch it all night.

Loved todays episode, those 2 older midwives were lovely and I really like the way the programme switched from the laboutr and birth to a sort of interview with the midwives and the 'mums to be'.

I love the contrat of seeing a couple sat on a couch , laughting and joking one minute then the switch to her panting and screaming and him looking bewildered Grin

Especially with the first time labours (is that sadisitic?!, lol)

I think the choice of participants is always really varied and thought through as well, theres a good range of ages and socail situations which makes it less borning .

Loved the young couple today, thought they were really sweet and a screamer (the lady in the other couple) is always entertaining Grin

Overall I think its just a fab show and can't wait till next weeks.

It always makes me cry when the baby is born :)

Having said that, I'fd like to see some more active births, they always seem to be lay flat on their backs which doesn't usually help.

TheLogLady · 10/01/2011 22:19

Sophable -

I remember saying just the same last time Angry

it's annoying the crap out of me already.

TheLogLady · 10/01/2011 22:21

Screaming is good. why does nobody tell women that?

supergreenuk · 10/01/2011 22:22

Loved it but don't really care about them interviewing the midwives. Could use the time following another birth. Would nice to see more ward time post labour and how they cope.

TheLogLady · 10/01/2011 22:24

interview with midwife saying how labouring woman doesn't want to be left alone and how vulnerable they are.

Cut shot to woman left without midwife support

Angry

WTF???

TheSkiingGardener · 10/01/2011 22:25

TheLogLady I had the same thoughts about that dad. Didn't feel comfortable watching him as he was so socially inept, felt like it was wrong somehow for that to be entertainment.

mummysmadhouse · 10/01/2011 22:25

swaliswan Envy...my biggest regret not recording any of my three labours or even getting a pic the second they popped out!!

Was determind third time round but not enough time! Was a water birth so im really looking forward to next week although ill prob be a blubbering wreck Smile tis a dangerous programme as its making me want to do it all again Sad

TheLogLady · 10/01/2011 22:25

woman left alone, vulnerable and frigtened

lo and behold she wants an epidural Angry

and yes. screaming bloody does make it better.

TheLogLady · 10/01/2011 22:26

why the fuck is the bloody midwife not with her woman???

TheLogLady · 10/01/2011 22:26

I can't imagine why i was not chosen for the panel?????

Pesha · 10/01/2011 22:29

Keep writing posts and losing them Angry

I thought it was very good, there were some bits I found quite annoying/frustrating (was also shouting 'get off the bed' at tv!) but that was with the people in it rather than the programme iyswim.

I agree I liked the focus on the dad, Ralph? And despite being an 'unusual' lad who could, probably quite easily, have been portrayed unfavourably he was shown to be very caring and sensitive and sweet. My dh was invaluable as my birth support and I really can't imagine anyone else I would want with me if I couldn't have him (just don't tell him I said that though, he's not in my good books atm!!).

I hope that this episode is to be seen as a part of the whole series and it goes onto show some more active and positive births. Next weeks episode already looks quite promising for that. My own 3 births have all been entirely different and I do think its important that they show a wide variety of experiences and attitudes, of both parents and mws.

RachelHRD · 10/01/2011 22:30

Loved, loved, loved it as always Grin and as ever came away wanting to have another DC!!

Ralph and Janet were great - yes he was an oddball but it said it all when he was in tears looking at his baby son! DS's birth was very similar - failed induction and distress leading to emergency section so it made me quite teary!

Steph the screamer was memorable and was causing lots of FB comments from friends on there!

Can't wait for the next episode....

CountessVonKnackerstein · 10/01/2011 22:30

Is it just me or was it not made clear if the parents-to-be were interviewed post or pre birth?

I would also like to have seen the new born babies featured more.

I'd also like this programme to create a "one off" featuring a day in the life of an NHS midwife. That would make interesting viewing too!

TheLogLady · 10/01/2011 22:34

Steph is just brilliant.

I quite like the interviews with midwives but would quite like it to be more case specific as opposed to just general chat.

It would also be useful if we could be told the specific things they would like feedback on. I think it is the kinda programme they should have live webchat facility for if they don't already.

TheSkiingGardener · 10/01/2011 22:37

Love the idea of the midwives POV countess. That would be great. Actually just set it in the tea room and hear all the stories coming in and out. That would include so many things in one.

i suppose y0u can't tell who's looking after who and who's having a break ut the shots of the women in their labour rooms alone disturbs me hugely.

mummysmadhouse · 10/01/2011 22:41

I like the young couple..thought maybe they are trying to steer away from the young parents stereotype by showing footage of them

Unicornlover · 10/01/2011 22:42

I enjoyed the programme. First time I've seen it. Steph reminded me of my labourwith all the screaming but I didn't have time for epidural as my labour was only 6 1/2 hours and I was only in hospital for 2 hrs of that. also i'm needlephobic so it was in my notes not to be offered.

Was interesting seeing what happens with an induction and the steps taken when things go wrong. I found Ralph very anooying although he was very sweet with Janet. I would have ripped the book out of his hands though. And it was good that they showed him crying after because it showed that fathers don't have to be the hard men and can show emotion.

I like the idea of the "one off" feature for the day in the life of a midwife and think it would make really interesting viewing.

I will be tuning in next week.

llynnnn · 10/01/2011 22:42

The screaming lady is far too dramatic! I remember getting a bit carried away having dd and she also told me screaming doesn't help and to use they energy breathing through it. Definitely helped me to focus on what I'd learnt/read beforehand. A bit of tough love is v helpful sometimes!
Love the show though, very emotional and tense watching!
