Channel 4 have asked Mumsnet to find out what you think about their new series of One Born Every Minute (starting today, Monday 10th January at 9pm). We've recruited a special panel of volunteer viewers to add their comments to this thread. The panel are a mix of Mumsnetters, all of whom are parents, some pregnant, some not, some have seen the programme before, others haven't.

They would also love any other Mumsnetters - ie folks NOT in the panel - to add their comments here. Anyone who contributes to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner, drawn at random, will win a £50 Amazon voucher.

We'll also be having a thread after the second programme, next Monday.

So, please post your thoughts and comments on the programme below. We'd welcome 'live' feedback during the broadcast as well as a comment at the end. If you can't post during the broadcast please add your thoughts by the end of Tues Jan 11th.

If you are a panel member please identify yourself as one when you first post.

Many thanks and enjoy!

My midwife was the same with my first, she told me if i didn't shut up she'd cancel my epidural!!!!!!!!!

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 21:55

I feel sorry for Ralph now. He looks like he is feeling like a spare part.

purpleknittingmum · 10/01/2011 21:55

Not a panel member, just joined the site!

Watching it and interested in Steph's screaming, I was told to not waste my energy screaming and get on with pushing!

MsInterpret · 10/01/2011 21:56

Aw, poor Ralph!

Ewe · 10/01/2011 21:56

It would be fascinating if they did a contrast with a birthing centre that has a more natural approach.

I agree that some more post-natal ward stuff would be interesting. Worst part of whole process for many people I know.

MummyCherry · 10/01/2011 21:56

Depends on what stage you are at, you don't want to be pushing at 5cm

SixtyFootDoll · 10/01/2011 21:56

Poor Ralph he's a real sweetie

Pesha · 10/01/2011 21:56

Bless him!

I had my second baby in a suite called the 'home from home ' at the local NHS hospital. That was really good for helping me relax. It was a bedroom fitted out like a normal bedroom at home with a tv, stereo system , bean bags etc. I much preferred it as it felt a lot less clinical. Apart from when they rang the emergency cord and needed a resus trolley and a team of people appeared at the end. That was a bit of a shocking end and I am forever grateful that my daughter is sat here with me now.

MrsShrekTheThird · 10/01/2011 21:57

awww, poor Ralph. bless.

TheSkiingGardener · 10/01/2011 21:57

I remember my midwife desperately trying to keep up with the paperwork. Basically if they don't record everything they can be struck off. They have a nightmare in eventful births.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 21:57

cute!!!!!!!!!!!!

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 21:57

It's great being able to snuggle a newborn whilst watching OBEM Grin

MummyCherry · 10/01/2011 21:58

I tell you what these babies show up the soaps, it always annoys me that the babies in soaps look about 3 months old when they are meant to be newborn lol

flamingtoaster · 10/01/2011 21:58

I think it's great that they show such a wide range of experience of birth (including Steph) because every birth is different and it's important for women to realize there isn't just one "route" (both physical and emotional) through the birth process.

crikeybadger · 10/01/2011 21:58

Aw poor Ralph- she chose her mother over him... did she get a csection or what?

Teladi · 10/01/2011 21:58

What Ralph is saying about having a baby and his hopes for being a good dad has made me blub!

Like Frankenstein... Grin

MummyCherry · 10/01/2011 21:59

There you go, next week water birth,

TheSkiingGardener · 10/01/2011 21:59

Plenty of moving about next episode by the look of it.

kingprawntikka · 10/01/2011 21:59

Oh looks like we get to see a water birth next week.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 21:59

That was good. Enjoyed that

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 22:00

I can't wait for next week. The woman having the water birth looks fab. I never looked that great whilst pg!

MrsShrekTheThird · 10/01/2011 22:00

I liked the extra focus on the dads tonight. It reminds me of how important DH was in the process of giving birth. He made a fab birth partner when he made it in time Smile

TheSkiingGardener · 10/01/2011 22:03

Good, but that family irritated me and I wouldn't have stayed watching if I wasn't on this thread. I would have liked to know how Janet had her baby in the end and spent more time on Steph.

It all felt a bit passive too. There were so many opportunities for more information, about birth and the process as well as what else midwives have to deal with. Babies being born will always be watchable TV but with a bit of effort this could be unmissable.
