Channel 4 have asked Mumsnet to find out what you think about their new series of One Born Every Minute (starting today, Monday 10th January at 9pm). We've recruited a special panel of volunteer viewers to add their comments to this thread. The panel are a mix of Mumsnetters, all of whom are parents, some pregnant, some not, some have seen the programme before, others haven't.

They would also love any other Mumsnetters - ie folks NOT in the panel - to add their comments here. Anyone who contributes to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner, drawn at random, will win a £50 Amazon voucher.

We'll also be having a thread after the second programme, next Monday.

So, please post your thoughts and comments on the programme below. We'd welcome 'live' feedback during the broadcast as well as a comment at the end. If you can't post during the broadcast please add your thoughts by the end of Tues Jan 11th.

If you are a panel member please identify yourself as one when you first post.

Many thanks and enjoy!

I already want to shake some sense into the dad.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 21:04

lol

Pesha · 10/01/2011 21:04

Panel member here.

Loling at babies having their own smell 'like new cars'!!

TheSkiingGardener · 10/01/2011 21:05

Um, have they found the most annoying gran, the most naive mum to be and a tit to start the programme

MummyCherry · 10/01/2011 21:05

This was my favourite programme last time it was on as i was pregnant at the time and it prepared me for it all really well, it was also amazing as i had conversations with my other half andi learnt stuff i didn't know, like the extent of the ventouse on my first little girls head.
I wonder if the men will be as supportive as the last series, boy did i want to smack some of them

Teladi · 10/01/2011 21:05

I am not a panel member.

I loved the last series of this show and am looking forward to this one. This time watching, I am pregnant for the first time!

New babies have a new baby smell like new cars! Love it :)

TheSkiingGardener · 10/01/2011 21:05

Btw, those 2 midwives are bloody brilliant when you're in there.

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 21:06

Barbara hates knowing the sex of the baby. I remember her telling me that when she looked after me.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 21:06

These 2 mw seem very nice

hello - another panel member signing in :)

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 21:06

I quite agree, Gardener.

kingprawntikka · 10/01/2011 21:07

The midwives are very nice and calming aren't they? Wish i'd had one as nice as them for my first birth.

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 21:08

They are very sweet midwives. So incredibly calming and reassuring.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 21:09

I always preferred the older mw's when I was in labour. I know it's awful to say, but i do think years of experience in hospitals and even in life are very reassuring when you are in labour.
I felt a bit nervous with younger mw's.
Am I really bad for admitting that?

MrsShrekTheThird · 10/01/2011 21:09

me too Silvery!

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 21:10

I felt the same Silverymoon. I wouldn't want my MIL in with me though despite her 30+ years experience.

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 21:10

LOL, crochet hook!

MrsShrekTheThird · 10/01/2011 21:11

would quite like to slap that Ralph fella
I really hope it's the editing and he's not that much of a prat

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 21:11

This show hadn't started before I had ds1. I watched it a bit when I was expecting ds2, but knew what to expect during labour, I'm thinking, if I'd seen this show before ds1, would I be reassured or frightened?
Does this show prepare or scare?

Pesha · 10/01/2011 21:11

No I agree silverymoon, and I don't feel so body conscious with an older mw (at the start, obviously don't give a shit once things get going!).

The sounds really bring it all back don't they, even the sucking on gas and air.

TheSkiingGardener · 10/01/2011 21:11

Nope, totally agree. A young midwife can be good, but a more experienced one can be good, reassuring and calming.

crikeybadger · 10/01/2011 21:12

Oh good, she's got off her back and on to the birthing ball! I always get frustrated by the lack of active birth and end up shouting at the telly for the woman to 'get up and walk around love'!

The midwives are just lovely, I wish I'd had midwives like these ones. Mine were very, erm, brusque.
