Channel 4 have asked Mumsnet to find out what you think about their new series of One Born Every Minute (starting today, Monday 10th January at 9pm). We've recruited a special panel of volunteer viewers to add their comments to this thread. The panel are a mix of Mumsnetters, all of whom are parents, some pregnant, some not, some have seen the programme before, others haven't.

They would also love any other Mumsnetters - ie folks NOT in the panel - to add their comments here. Anyone who contributes to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner, drawn at random, will win a £50 Amazon voucher.

We'll also be having a thread after the second programme, next Monday.

So, please post your thoughts and comments on the programme below. We'd welcome 'live' feedback during the broadcast as well as a comment at the end. If you can't post during the broadcast please add your thoughts by the end of Tues Jan 11th.

If you are a panel member please identify yourself as one when you first post.

Many thanks and enjoy!

I had a male midwife for the early part of my first labour and he was lovely and calming, pity he went off shift and I ended up with one of the don't scream variety!

Not on the panel, just sitting here quietly sobbing into my wine! I remember trying to run away from the pain like Stephanie seems to be doing. For some reason I thought it would work!

PurpleMiffy · 10/01/2011 21:32

lmao I also 'mooed' I remember letting out a scream and thinking 'I'm dying'

Pesha · 10/01/2011 21:32

I screamed a lot for the last 10 mins with ds1 as he was suddenly coming very quickly, mws were racing around and it scared me! I can still clearly remember the mws telling dp to try and get me to be quiet!!

I was wondering if younger mw has children, I know it shouldn't really make a difference but somehow it does.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 21:32

piss off you patronising bint!

whomovedmychocolate · 10/01/2011 21:33

Yes, FINALLY a swearer Grin

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 21:33

I'm liking the new midwife who's talking to Stephanie.

TheSkiingGardener · 10/01/2011 21:33

Ah, there's the swearing..... More realistic now.

domesticslattern · 10/01/2011 21:33

These MWs are so lovely. Time to chat about Roman books and all. Smile The ones I had were pretty brusque, and also seemed much more obviously massively overworked. One Irish battleaxe came in to demand "What's going on here?" because I was swearing so much. I wonder if the Southampton MWs are all really lovely or on best behaviour?

I like the cutting to the direct interviews during the action. Works well. This is a darn sight better than the Christmas special- just felt that format didn't work.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 21:34

See, if i was expecting my 1st or not yet pregnant, I'd be seriously frightened by watching Steph.

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 21:34

I didn't think that she was that patronising.

MrsShrekTheThird · 10/01/2011 21:34

poor steph. she's doing an awful lot of screaming - and wtf with the mw laughing Hmm

Oggyandthecockroaches · 10/01/2011 21:35

LOVING Ralph - so brilliant!

Steph is hilarious - the screaming - she'll frighten her poor baby!

MsInterpret · 10/01/2011 21:36

Isn't Steph going a bit OTT now?!

My DH was so great at helping me breathe through the cx with the gas and air. REALLY helped. Want to see them using the G&A better!

Ewe · 10/01/2011 21:36

Blardy hell - that is some SERIOUS yelling!

Teladi · 10/01/2011 21:37

If Steph doesn't get her epidural soon I am going to have to switch this off, I'm finding this quite upsetting. :( I know birth is painful but I didn't find any of the other births on this programme as scary as this one.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 21:37

My dp is finding this all very funny.
You'd think he'd never witnessed a live birth

TheSkiingGardener · 10/01/2011 21:38

No domesticslattern they are really like that. It's a lovely place!

plainjanesuperbrain · 10/01/2011 21:38

Sorry, but Steph is just being ridiculous- I would laugh if I was her MW.

MsInterpret · 10/01/2011 21:39

Yes, don't worry teladi - she is not representative of my birth or many others..!

MrsShrekTheThird · 10/01/2011 21:39

why isn't Janet moving anywhere? Surely they should be encouraging her to go walkabout a bit? If they are, it's not showing - it just looks like they have all been stuck in the same little room for aaaaages

Swaliswan · 10/01/2011 21:40

DH and I both remember Barbara being this funny and telling as many stories when she looked after us. She very relaxed about everything and so understanding/patient.

crikeybadger · 10/01/2011 21:40

Agree with you plainjane, I'd be having a little smile with my cup of tea and bic if I was one of those midwives!

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2011 21:41

This mw reminds me of Kim from Kim and aggie, just her tone of voice, her conversation etc

I like the fact that with this episode they are showing certain extremes to labour though.
Nothing happening and then another one getting very distressed.
Nice variation. Hopefully balancing out all the people like me who may be getting a bit scared
