Big Brother of course.

My radar went off as soon as he opened his mouth and continues to go off. Lovely guy- far too nice for the BB house. He's described himself as a geek, just wondered whether there was more tooo it (my radar went off big time when after Kinga was evicted he said, trying to be nice, "hmm well maybe its just that you're a bit too much sometimes". Ow! Completely true, but definitely something she didn'[t need to hear.

Hope he wins! (but he won't)

I am soooo pleased I was not alone in thinking that Eugene was AS... my dh thought i was mad! but you can spot the traits...and bless him when he gets upset I just want to hug him!
I do think it might have been an error of judgement to have put him in the house if it was just to get cheap laughs tho.I wonder whether anyone queried it b4 he went in, ie thru tha audition process.

Kelly1978 · 07/07/2005 10:46

lol @ Pretty candles. Mine isn't really geeky at all, and thinks Eugene is seriously wierd. I quite like him tho!

charleypops · 07/07/2005 11:49

Eugene defo has traits, not sure if he'd ever get an official AS dx though - seems to me like he has a lot of empathy for fellow housemates (Orlaigh) and is quite emotional? As for people laughing at him - I've been laughing at them all, including Eugene, but he's by far the sweetest most likeable character in there.
I think geeky types need more exposure and shouldn't be hidden away in order to give everyone a chance to appreciate and celebrate them. The housemates taking the piss aren't doing themselves any favours.

Flum · 07/07/2005 21:27

I think audience love him, but he must be a bit hard to live with. But stories that people don't laugh at, Jeez I know loads of people like that.

I am far more worried about Craig who clearly has the emotional maturity of a foetus.

Eulalia · 08/07/2005 16:59

Yes he is a radio amateur and my dh is too and most of them definately have AS.

My dh has an habit of telling people what he thinks regardless of whether it may hurt them or not.

chonky · 11/07/2005 22:58

Eugene's now in 4th place with the bookies - yay! Here's hoping that he can do even better than that.

I think his facial expressions etc give it away. He's very like someone I know with AS (also incredibly high functioning)- I hope Eugene didn't go through too many hassles to end up as well balanced etc as he obviously is. We love him in this house

I was trying to explain to a friend the other day what AS was, and ended up saying that AS people could be seen as geeks. She suddenly got all animated and said geeks are great, without geeks the world wouldn't function, and without them who would do all that geeky work that we all rely on. Really made me feel happy actually

monica2 · 22/07/2005 10:57

Dd's senco knows Eugene very well (he went to uni with her son) and he does not have AS but obviously a lot of traits!!

jenk1 · 22/07/2005 12:08

oooh monica-tell us more about eugene

troutpout · 22/07/2005 21:03

i thought it as soon as he went into the house...He reminds me very much of ds1...
Isn't he lovely...particularly when he tries to spout of to the others when he thinks they are morally wrong....and when he gets overwhelmed when he does something wrong. Awww
Eugene to Win!

beccaboo · 23/07/2005 00:32

Wouldn't it be amazing if he did win? The biggest popularity poll ever. It would be nice to think all those people had seen through his social clumsiness and realised that he is lovely - he has risen above all the bitchiness and backbiting.

troutpout · 23/07/2005 11:32

Beccaboo that is exactly what Ds's tacher said to me last year (he has been flagged as having 'Aspergers tendencies')....What would we do with out people like ds?..the world needs them!

ruty · 24/07/2005 12:00

craig called him simple and a half wit recently - if anyone has half their wits it is craig. Eugene is lovely, and he has even toned down his long stories, so i think he is quite aware socially.

RTKangaMummy · 24/07/2005 12:13

he has just been talking about continuing to see PYSCH when he comes out etc.

Blossomhill · 24/07/2005 12:14

Who is pysch?

RTKangaMummy · 24/07/2005 12:18

Sorry should have explained better

Eugine was talking to Derek and said that he would continue to see the psychologist who works for big brother to help him with his communication skills or lack of them

What I mean is that he has come to recognise in himself that he sometimes doesn't stop talking and that he "butts into" conversations

I was just reporting on what eugine was saying about himself

RTKangaMummy · 24/07/2005 12:19

So eugine was saying he would want to continue to see BB bloke once a month afterwards

When he out in RL

Blossomhill · 24/07/2005 12:22

Thanks RTKM
I love Eugene

BTW booked our holiday to the IOW. We are off to Park Resorts!

RTKangaMummy · 24/07/2005 12:28

beccaboo · 12/08/2005 13:42

So, is he going to win? I've never voted on BB before, but I'm going to vote for Eugene tonight .
