Fingers crossed for you !! How old is your child x

He is 8, turns 9 in February

Jessesmum19 · 12/11/2025 17:02

I hope he gets hrm they need to change the rules regarding the way they look at it we were declined when he was 5 as they say other children at 5 do those things too which is wrong my son os almost 7 and I dont know an average child his age still using a pram etc ! Let me know what they say to you xx

Thank you everyone for your replies, I think I will wait for the letter to come through and see what evidence was used and go from there but you have all made a good point with my daughter being nearly 5, if I didn’t know her I would probably be thinking the same that a 4 year old could just go in a pushchair, I know myself there is a lot more to it but I may wait until she is abit older it might be easier to prove she does qualify for hrm.

So MR 25/4 spoke to the decision maker, and she was fantastic.

Started off the call by confirming that she believes we are correct in that they never looked at all the evidence and took SMI into account for HRM, we spent 15 minutes discussing his behaviour and going through the challenges we as parents face.

There where a few questions I could tell where being used to trip us up, things like "does this only happen on the way to school" or "can you coerce him with rewards when he is having a refusal episode" but overall i think we may get the result we are hoping for.

She finally mentioned she will need to get advice from a medical expert and is hoping to have a decision out by the end of the week.

Fingers crossed!

Good luck, I remember when you did your renewal back when I was doing my sons renewal, I hope you get the award you are hoping for with your MR

I think this definitely makes sense just in case we know what they are like. It’s a good outcome and maybe waiting like you say will show more as she gets older that’s it’s different for a child of her age. It’s still an amazing outcome. I’m debating whether to call tomorrow or wait until Tuesday when my payments due x

My daughters payment is due on Tuesday aswell she told me on the phone they have sent her back pay with her usual payment and a Christmas bonus and I will receive it a day early on Monday because they’ve sent it today. I would call up tomorrow lunch time they should have made a decision by then, saves you worrying about the outcome all weekend. It definitely is a good outcome it could have been worse, I’m mostly looking at it that I won’t have to do a renewal for 7 years and she will still have the same money all that time plus I know she has a lot more appointments to come which would be beneficial. Let me know how you get on and good luck

Decision made this morning.
She has gone from MRC to HRC backdated to March and then is being awarded LRM from next month when she turns 5, now I’m in a dilemma because I was going to do a MR if she didn’t get HRM but they’ve given her a 7 year award and I’m not sure I want to mess it up 😵‍💫

Finally .. finally been in work all day and was dying to know if you'd had an update. Well deserved have a think about Mr for HM but I'd be like you 7;years is a cracking award time.. if you appeal it would it jeopardize it. Anyway well done hope the back pay comes in soon for you xx

Thank you, I’m so glad the wait is finally over, I’m totally shocked by the length of the award, I thought it would just be another 2 years but not having to do a renewal now until her 12 birthday seems like the wait was totally worth it

Ema06 · 12/11/2025 23:02

Hi guys…I have re joined this thread from this time last year!
My son was awarded MRC for 2 years.
I put in for a COC end of September as my sons night time needs have drastically changed!
Also…after finally going into nursery he had involvement with an education psychologist and she asked me if he was in receipt of DLA. I told her the rate and she said he should be getting mobility.
As a pushchair is needed outdoors at all times and in school to help transition between rooms/keep him safe and it is also his safe space
My son is 3 years old…4 in January
I am aware you can only get LRM once child turns 5 so didn’t even consider trying for it as I know how hard it is to be awarded.
Anyways she offered to write supporting letter and it was brilliant mirrored my son completely!
It is also included in his IEP that pushchair is needed within school.
I am just wondering has anyone had a similar experience and what their outcome was??
Im not expecting him to get mobility at all just wanting to see other people’s experiences

Cutie101 · 12/11/2025 23:36

HRC, LRM...assume I will be sent a letter or something to confirm it? First payment went in today. Apart from waiting for the lesser, is there any way of guessing how long my child will be awarded those rates for? (She is 12 years old.if that makes a difference).

How long was you waiting for uc?

Ll333 · 13/11/2025 09:15

@Curlycookie5 just got off the phone decision made yesterday stayed the same been extended for two years. Going to wait for statement of reasoning and the mr it is. Another 6 months wait 🙈

BeboSinner · 13/11/2025 09:33

I've just found out that my sons renewal has been done, he's been awarded the same rates HRC and LRM for two years.
I'm so relieved that the wait is over, and that he's been awarded what he deserves as it really does help to support him and his needs.
Good luck to everyone else waiting for a decision.

Oh no! I’m so sorry your going to have to wait even longer 🙄 What rates was you on before? I hope they looked through what you sent properly considering the amount of time we’ve just had to wait.

it’s so frustrating I don’t think the have from what she read out. We get lrm lrc. He was on hrm med and on renewal it went down to that. Which was a big difference. Definitely going to have to try the mr.
