The reference number for your childs Dla is their national insurance number they need this to be able to process your Dla, they ask for a birth certificate if a child hasn’t got child benefits because when you claim child benefits that is when their national insurance number is issued, if they don’t receive child benefits they ask for your child’s birth certificate so they can get your child’s national insurance number. Hope this makes sense, but if you have been claiming child benefits for your child they shouldn’t need it, I would call to double check because when they ask for a birth certificate it usually delays your wait time and it sounds like you don’t need to send one in

The same thing happened to me with my twins. They said they have another way of verfying through child benefit and thats what they did for me.

I did ring two more times to double check and triple check they was able to verify.

Hello NC SD 14/10
Told to apply by UC as the pathway for diagnosis has taken my sons school 5 years to do the forms, 2 years waiting and now at the stage of awaiting practitioner allocation (currently being told that probably won't be til March!) His current teacher helped fill in the forms as she helped get the pathway forms done 2 years ago, she is literally an 😇. She has also asked for the email about practitioner allocation to make sure he can get all the support he needs as it's his sats year. I spent years thinking he needs a diagnosis to get support but I'm now seeing the good in the world again thanks to his teacher and the lady at uc who told me to apply. My text said 25 weeks wait, I think I've proven with even getting him on the pathway that I have patience. I've watched and done all I can with very little support since he started showing signs at age 2. I know I'm rambling but to all the parents waiting please don't lose hope (or sanity).

Just found this thread after googling wait times! We have a NC in for DD, who has a Dyspraxia diagnosis and is waiting for assessment for ASD. I have no idea what we’ll be entitled to so can’t wait to actually get some information! We never even got a confirmation letter, had to call to find out. SD was 20th August though apparently so from reading this thread it sounds like we’re in the before September bucket and will be waiting a while longer yet!

Simplelifeneeded · 09/11/2025 14:54

I claim child benefit and was still asked to send in ds birth cert.

MPs are able to do this. You need to contact your local MP who can ask for the decision to be expedited, especially if the delay is causing difficulties.

When I called for update the lady asked me if there was a reason I was calling as she could try get it prioritised so I just explained a few things and she made a note of it wether anything will be done fast idk I’ll only be 20 weeks on Tuesday tho

Hi all, me again 😬 I haven’t been on for a little while because I was getting myself so stressed but I’m back now, stressing again 😂 I got a letter in the post this morning saying my appeal hearing didn’t go ahead as planned (I didn’t know it had been planned) and it had been adjourned because they want me to appear in person, I’m guessing it’s because his disease is so rare that no one really knows or understands how it affects his everyday life. I’ve spent most of the day on google trying to prepare myself but I’m so stressed! They said it will go ahead at the first available date so I guess there’s an end in sight one way or another, this has been going on 18mths now! Ah honestly, my heads all over the place 😔

Hey lovely. Been waiting to hear an update from you. Fingers crossed for you. X

hey, how did your son get a dyspraxia diagnosis before being assessed for autism? my son I believe also has dyspraxia but was told the school will deal with that, but the school havent really done anyhting with it, my son is already put in for ASD with the NHS

You actually should be in the quicker back log. Anyone before 15th July are waiting a very long time 18wks plus. Anyone after its dramatically reduced wait times. So hopefully won't be too long for you.

Dont know if im seriously over thinking everything but im honestly freaking out that i havent sent enough evidence to be awarded for my twins. Ive sent a letter from disability worker, letter from health visitor, letter from GP. Speech and language referals also day time and night time care needs journals.

The whole thing has been really frustrating to be honest... the Dyspraxia very much presented first for my DD, she's always been very far behind peers on anything motor (we now know 0.5th centile on motor assessment), so she got referred by the school for that to be assessed. At the time she was masking the ASD symptoms well so there wasn't a referral for that initially. We were on the waiting list for 3 years to be seen, by which time the ASD symptoms were presenting so we mentioned that to the clinicians - but they refused to assess for ASD because that isn't what she was referred for and we hadn't been through the correct pathway of pre-assessments! Even though they clearly acknowledged that she didn't make eye contact, very quiet etc. during the Dyspraxia assessments. So we had to go back through the school and all the forms for ASD to be re-referred and are now back waiting for likely years again! So so frustrating! The NHS process for the Dyspraxia was very helpful though so I'm surprised they've steered you back to the school? Might be worth double checking to make sure you don't end up in the same boat as me that they refuse to talk about the Dyspraxia in NHS appointments because you haven't got certain forms!

I will be 31 weeks on Tuesday for a COC, I have sent loads of evidence to support my child being smi and should qualify for Hrm under this criteria, I should hopefully hear something this week coming. It’s hard to get Hrm under smi criteria so even I can’t guarantee what my decision will be, they don’t seem to like giving out Hrm much.
