I’m so sorry to hear the decision wasn’t what you was hoping for 😞 I don’t know what’s going on at the moment there seems to be so many people not getting the right awards for their children. I hope it isn’t about cutting costs because this is the wrong area to cut. Good luck with your MR

Thanks, I also believe it is because they do not read all of the evidence either! Just frustrating they do not look properly before making a decision since I have already waited 7 months!

NC SD 02/09
With DM 14/10 and so just waiting now, but hoping to hear by the end of the month.

Have you been awarded yet?

They probably don’t and thats wrong because we’ve waited all this time for a decision, really there should be a department before the DM to read through everything, highlight stuff and make a pre decision before it goes to a DM. I’m not feeling hopeful even with all the evidence I’ve sent in because of the lack of positive decisions just lately.

Yours could be anytime then 🤞 good luck I hope you get the decision you are hoping for. Can you let me know how you get on? I’m hoping I don’t receive a call from dm this week because my kids on on half term and it’s impossible to talk on the phone 😵‍💫 It finally feels like this long wait is coming to a end soon 🤞

I will be sure to update if i hear 😊 x

Hey I thought it actually did work like that with someone looking at it be4 the dm to say it was pre approved. They say when you call it’s done in date order that’s not right people after my renewal date has bin done already x

I waited 7month for my child’s on a NC this was last year I have just posted Saturday my youngest forms in they text the smorning saying they had recived them so I’m planning on waiting the same but I’ve seen many peoples NC done recently in 4-5 weeks

Our son had his renewal turned down. This was due on the 16th Nov and we got the letter yesterday. We’ve gone from MRC and LRM to no award. When we completed the renewal we didn’t go in to lots of detail and assumed the renewal was an update on the original claim. We are blaming ourselves as we feel we might not have given it the time it deserved. We know we’ve been daft and realise now that we should’ve just treated it like a new claim.. the reasons for it not being awarded is that he is in a mainstream school without a EHCP/IEP and has t seen a medical professional in over a year. Following his 3 diagnoses we have management plans in place without the need for medical review. We know we can do a MR and from here I’ve seen the lengthy wait. If I did a new claim and added a letter to say we misunderstood the purpose of the renewal form would this be frowned upon?

Hi. Similar situation to my daughter. We also moved to no entitlement based on 3 reasons which are the same as you. She has no EHCP and is in mainstream school. She hasn’t accessed a medical professional in over a year and finally at her age it is expected she would need full supervision in play.

Ive started the ball rolling with a reconsideration and have been informed today that they are now look at 35+ weeks for it to be handed to a DM. I’ve been told to expect contact end of July 26. I too wondered if entering a NC would be the route to take here given I have weekly therapy sessions to pay for. We waited a while for these so I didn’t want to end them but affordability won’t allow. It’s such a mess isn’t it and all feels so unfair. I’ve a friend whose pre-school son has got his award within 5 weeks.

That’s great glad it’s been quick for you did you wait 2 weeks after posting you forms to receive the letter off them I did last year but dont know what it’s like this time round with them being so quick

No- unfortunately not. It’s still a clerical case and the NI number hasn’t been allocated to it yet. It’s been with the team that does that for a week so far though and I’ve been told the claim is very likely to be awarded.

They received them the day after posting and I received a text that day to say they had them. Letter turned up after about 3 maybe 4 weeks and awarded today. Much much quicker than last year. I did my other sons last year and think I waited about 20 weeks

I hope that is true it would make sense for them to do that or a dm would just rush through and not read everything. I did my sons renewal not long ago and received a letter with his decision 8 weeks before it was due to run out, it was so unexpected because most renewals was being done the week before, yet I’m 29 weeks for coc and there is people after me that has been awarded, they definitely don’t work in date order.

Yeah sounds like mine this time round I didn’t get a text when I posted them last year just the letter the backlog must have been bad last year for NC with every one waiting so long hopefully it’s not like that this time round

Thank you and you too, hopefully not too much longer before we get a decision. This wait is what makes it stressful and second guessing everything we’ve sent in 😵‍💫

I’m more stressed out with the COC than I was when it was a NC😬 still can’t believe you haven’t had a decision yet, I’ve just seen 2 on fb 12th June SD for COC. Defo isn’t done in date order it’s obviously some decision makers are getting through their piles quicker than others X

Victoria1410 · 28/10/2025 19:22

i don’t suppose anyone knows how long it takes for them to get a national insurance number please? They told me it was sent to someone to give my son one as I left it blank on the form, and they told me this last week. Also do they get the number first then look through the form and make a decision or vice versa?

Is yours a clerical case (where the child reference number starts with CL1)? Mine is and it’s been with the team who locate/issue the NI number for over a week now. I was told that in clerical cases, if an award is likely, it is then passed to that team before returning to the decision maker for the final decision.

Yeah it starts with CL1 but sorry if it sounds thick but what does that mean clerical case

I’m by no means an expert as this is all new to me but from the conversations I’ve had with the call handlers it sounds like clerical cases take a bit longer. When I first started to call them they’d ask for my national instance number and then tell me they couldn’t find the claim. I think it’s linked to me not having claimed child benefit for the child, as apparently that’s when a child NI number is allocated. As a result the number has to either be found or issued by another team, which can delay things a little depending on how busy they are and how easy it is to find an existing NI number for the child (if there is one). I’ve tried to chase this bit to provide more information that could help them to find it, but have been told that if they need more information they’ll call or write to me. Mine has been with this team since last Monday. On the plus side, I was told that clerical cases are only sent to this team if it’s deemed that an award is likely.

Hope that makes sense and that we aren’t waiting too long.
