I feel your pain. I think there is a huge issue with DM not reviewing applications and reviews effectively. My reasons are quite ridiculous given the evidence I provided. I started the MR process on Friday over the phone and will continue via the form I’ve downloaded this weekend. It’s utterly unfair that our children have to wait so long because the information hasn’t been reviewed well. I’ve posted about us going from MRC and LRM to nothing - it’s utter madness! Gggrrrrr…. Keep going !

I'm so sorry that they have done this to you. That is absolutely awful, I really feel like when they review our evidence, they should call us to have a discussion around everything, so they know they are looking at the right things and understanding it, not just flicking through it and making a decision on that.
I didn't know you could do an MR over the phone, I thought you had to write it on the form and post it back

Harrysmummy2016 · 26/10/2025 12:58

I had my sons statement of reasons through on Friday, and the MR form. Do I just need to write down why I don't agree with the decision? And then write again what his behaviours are the support he needs and then reference SMI with the extra evidence I have? I'm so anxious about this, I've never done it before and after them not even mentioning anything about his behaviour that I wrote down and support he needs, I'm worried they will just overlook it again

I did a MR in august following a complete denial of a NC. I bullet pointed all the points i didnt agree to, and explained why i didnt agree to them and provided extra evidence to back up my points. I also wrote a very extensive letter of complaint because i was so frustrated. I also provided extra sleep journals, day journals, forms i signed at school to give them permission to restrain her (as she is highly aggressive and will attack anyone) and will smash up whole classrooms. A letter from the school explaining her impulsivity and aggressive behaviour amd dysregulation. A letter from GP explaining incontinence issues and her hip problems. I hope this helps.

@Harrysmummy2016 @SENgirlmum Im so sorry you both have to go through this. It is absolutely awful. I am seeing more and more claims being turned down. They are doing cuts in the wrong places completely and its causing more children to suffer. I hope both of your claims are successful. Keep up the fight for your children. You are both doing amazing!

Our son had his renewal turned down. This was due on the 16th Nov and we got the letter yesterday. We’ve gone from MRC and LRM to no award. When we completed the renewal we didn’t go in to lots of detail and assumed the renewal was an update on the original claim. We are blaming ourselves as we feel we might not have given it the time it deserved. We know we’ve been daft and realise now that we should’ve just treated it like a new claim.. the reasons for it not being awarded is that he is in a mainstream school without a EHCP/IEP and has t seen a medical professional in over a year. Following his 3 diagnoses we have management plans in place without the need for medical review. We know we can do a MR and from here I’ve seen the lengthy wait. If I did a new claim and added a letter to say we misunderstood the purpose of the renewal form would this be frowned upon?

I want to add that we use the payment for enrichment activities to support his development socially and also for a learning tutor to help solidate Learning. We’d have no choice but to stop all of this and we just can’t afford to do that to him

cloudxo · 27/10/2025 06:05

Just a quick question if anyone can help! If my daughter’s decision was made on Wednesday evening when will I receive back payment?

For a Wednesday it would usually go in today but it sounds like it was sent late on Wednesday so it’s likely it will go in tomorrow instead

He’s 10 and in year 6. Lots of support in place , adjustments and adaptations made to help learning. Hes off in small groups most days so isn’t always in the main classroom. I’ve noticed it seems to be this age group getting a lot of rejections.

Mumof1xox · 27/10/2025 08:18

Hi Does anyone know what dates they are on with MR? Are any late aprils waiting ?

I just don’t know what to do for the best. The tutoring has helped so much with confidence. I’m gutted we’ve got to stop it but we just can’t afford it. I think that’s why I’m thinking trying a NC. Could it go quicker or would it just be returned ?

Caious · 27/10/2025 08:20

Hi can anyone help me on this?
my child was awarded HRC from MRC on COC sd was 10/7/25, do they back date the payment to then? Asking becouse he was awarded on 21st still no back pay.

My daughter is 10 to and in mainstream school and no ehcp so fully expecting it to be declined now. I just think it is shocking to be honest do they realise without that support in place how it will effect our children and is it only made on care at school what about care at home it’s a joke I showed video evidence of the struggles my daughter faces on a daily to school and they write letter saying this and I no think that not even going to make a difference xx

Fingers crossed it will work out for you. I strongly believe it depends on the desk it lands on. Ours hasn’t had any time put into it which is clear by the statements they’ve made.
i hope it works out for you - it’s so stressful!

Was your COC done at the same time as a renewal? I’m just wondering if they have changed the award from a certain date like a renewal and not backdated it? If not then you should have received back pay to when you called for the COC forms, I would give them a call to see what’s going on. Congratulations on the award

AmusedHazelCat · 27/10/2025 10:06

If an MR changes your award from mrc to hrc will uc backpay due to the MR as their rate goes from £150 something to around £495 with HRC?
Thanks!

HeartyGuide · 27/10/2025 10:50

I know I have said this previously but DLA is based on the care a child needs over and above a normal child of the same age.
They do not need an ECHP although helpful you can still get DLA without.

My granddaughter receives DLA and does not have an ECHP, but I am fully expecting her renewal to be refused when she is age 12. I will continue with her DLA if this happens because she needs extra care because of her needs above another child of the same age, due to her rare and complicated diagnosis.

I have put two links below for re: information about DLA( I've previously posted) and the other is a guide for medical conditions:
