Hi I put in our application last week and have had the test to say it's a 20 week wait. Any idea how realistic this time frame is? Does anyone know if having an EHCP helps secure DLA too? Thanks

PositivityRipples · 10/10/2025 19:50

Hopefully not much longer for you to wait, sounds like you've sent all you have so thats all you can do really, I'm sure you've since read the SMI criteria.. It depends how you've worded things also and as you've wrote here behaviour issues that require additional support, the behaviour issues under SMI need to be extreme and prolonged and require intervention and supervision ect..
I hope that dont sound patronising i just mean the wording is important for HRM especially SMI as the criteria is very specific. Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼

Hey, no of course it doesn't, I appreciate the feedback, the kind of things I wrote were that when we are in home, he will try to throw himself down the stairs, so he has needed to be restrained and kept in a room with atleast 1 adult to keep him safe, he managed to get out the front without us noticing a few months ago and just legged it, so I explained what happened, I explained that when outside, unless he is being held, he will just bolt and this is becoming increasingly difficult the older he gets. At night, 1 of us shares a bed with him, because he only sleeps 2-4 hrs a night and will get up and will turn taps on, try and get out the front door, hit his head off walls, so needs an adult with him constantly to ensure he is safe, we cannot leave him alone at any time. I explained that he has no sense of danger, he will step out into the road infront of a car, as well as talk to strangers, so needs constant support when out as well. I guess time will tell, but it is a lot to have to wait nearly 30 weeks and see others get their decisions and it feels like we've been forgotten x

You do have to prove all these things in different settings so school ect. If they aren't restraining/have a restraint plan that is used regularly I dont think explaing what happens at home will be enough to satisfy under SMI. You also have to prove severe intellectual impairment which is another point people struggle to evidence.

Although saying that If you can't evidence those it doesnt mean you will not be awarded HRM as you can still gst it under VUW. People assume that criteria is just for physically disabled kids but it is not and alot of autistic kids get awarded under VUW rather than SMI

May sound stupid but what is VUW please? I have four autistic children. I only get low mobility for my oldest but have always thought she could do with high mobility as its virtually impossible to go anywhere with her. She has EHCP, has seen a education psychologist and the way she is has been well documented at school.

I've sent his paediatrician reports with everything that he's put down about his behaviours and what's happened. School have the evidence of him managing to get out of the gates and running off, having to put additional handles on the top of the classroom doors to stop him getting out and then last year, putting him in a class that had key card access, not sure if that will be enough. He's got global development delay and its documented his age is 9 nearly 10, but his mental (not sure if thats the correct wording) is that he's around 5/6 years old.
If we need more then we've recently got a family support worker through applying for respite short breaks, and she's said she can give us evidence as well, so we will have to see x

Mine are twin NCs so i have a long wait. You should probably hear before me. Let me know how you get on. Fingers crossed you get the decision you want!

Needsomelight · 13/10/2025 10:31

Hi all
Could anyone advise me please? My daughter’s DLA is due to end 25/10/2025. Renewal has been sent. I called today and they said a decision was made yesterday and letter sent out but won’t tell me what the outcome is over the phone. When I first claimed back in 2017 and it was awarded they told me over the phone. So I’m guessing it means it’s been declined now they won’t tell me over the phone this time? Panicking big time. Anyone had this too please?
Thank you

Daryl54 · 13/10/2025 10:36

Hi @Needsomelight when you rang did you press option 4 xx

ellierose99 · 13/10/2025 10:39

19 weeks for my NC so far. Hoping this is my last week on this thread🤞

Hi @Needsomelight when you rang did you press option 4 xx

Thank you for replying. Um I’m not sure now. I pressed option for update on new claims and renewals. I’m not sure what option that is I can’t remember. In a right panic 😭

Daryl54 · 13/10/2025 10:44

@Needsomelight your welcome I’m sure it’s option 1 then 5 then 1 and then 4 see if that works try not to worry they wouldn’t tell me on my renewal over the phone then I rang back and pressed option 4 😂xx

Will you be calling this weeks? I would imagine they would have made your decision this week sometime, the scan date before yours was with dm last week so you’ve got to be next?

I really hope so, they can't take much longer, yes, I will call towards the end of the week and see if anything has happened, I've just seen someone put that they've seen on FB a COC going over 32 weeks, its a joke

Just did it and it worked! Thank you so much!! They have awarded it!! So so relieved !! I wouldn’t have known to use those options to call back if you hadn’t said, thank you so much!! 💖

If there is 2 coc on here that’s 30 weeks tomorrow and both is with the dm since last week I can’t see as it’s now moved to 32weeks 😵‍💫 I hope not anyway! I hate this wait 😞 and im only 27 weeks tomorrow

Jenni20 · 13/10/2025 12:05

Hi ladies and gents. Has any new claims been awarded? I’ve seen a fair few for August in here and also quite a lot from the end of August on Facebook. My scan date was 22/8 still not heard a peep. No letter or no text. I did ring a while ago to see if they’ve received the evidence I sent which they did and she asked me some details over the phone and said she would register the claim there and then. Does anybody know what “registering the claim” means? X
