@ProudZebra by the way I think it’s absolutely disgusting you got declined in the first place and had to go through the MR process xx

TashaxJ · 16/06/2025 19:24

@ProudZebra dont quote me on it as I could be wrong but children with certain illnesses I believe came under the special circumstances rule which I thought included tumours. Trying googling it I could be wrong but I am sure I saw a check box for that in my form xx

I don’t remember seeing anything on the form but my mind was in a complete boggle filling them out 😔 xx

Any other MR 3/12 heard anything today? as I’ve seen a few after our date get responses.
It’s officially 365 days tomorrow since I first applied.
im very convinced it’s a decline again as most people who are going through an MR have DM call them for info. Just would like to know so I can stop thinking about it all the time and let go.

Call them. I was told by 3 people today a decisions been made. So you should hear soon SD is the same 03/12

I know, I can’t believe some of the cases that do get declined, it’s crazy! My son has so many problems that come with his disease and it’s a struggle everyday. He has been referred to wheelchair services but the waiting list is 6mth+ so I borrowed money to buy him a wheelchair so he’s not having to walk when he’s in agony, I’ve had to pay to have spindles put up my stairs so he can at least shuffle down on his bum if he has something to hold on to (I have fibro so can’t always carry him due to pain) it cost me over £1300 for my stairs which again I had to borrow. My poor bubba struggles everyday and I feel like I’m letting him down because I don’t have the funds to get the things he needs when he needs them 😔 I wasn’t going to apply for him at all but his condition is only going to get worse xx

Did you get a phone call for extra info? Have they let you know what they decided?
I physically can’t bring myself to call if I’m honest.

TashaxJ · 16/06/2025 19:52

@ProudZebra if you wasn’t so far ahead with the MR process I would say call them up and explain that you believe your son meets the criteria for the special circumstances rule. Maybe try googling as well though to be 100% sure but I am quite sure tumours was listed as special circumstances xx

TashaxJ · 16/06/2025 19:54

@ProudZebra I am currently going through the MR process myself we got declined on 29/05 but our circumstances are not as severe as yours you are definitely more than entitled xx

Yes, I’ve only just seen it only google today, that was the picture I added earlier, it said something about cancer or if you have tumours or things that need removed before they turn cancerous which is exactly him although there’s too many to remove so he’s sees specialists and has X-rays and scans every 6mth, bear in mind he’s only 3 😔

I thought so, thankfully he’s not that but there’s something about tumours which says he should qualify for dla but his case was declined.

Had a message on my uc journal today there sending my claim to the decision makers for back pay of disabled element how long does that take ?

TashaxJ · 16/06/2025 20:17

@ProudZebra I would definitely be fighting it. Did you get a statement of reasons ? I got a statement of reasons and sent a mandatory reconsideration in writing stating why I disagreed with the things stated in the statement of reasons I bullet pointed each point and argued why I disagree for instance mine said in his statement of reasons he does not have a diagnosis so I explained that throughout my claim form multiple times I explained and sent evidence that he is on the NDT waiting list currently and waiting to be seen, also that a diagnosis is not needed to claim DLA as DLA is awarded based on the level of care, attention, or supervision a child needs, not the specific diagnosis of their condition xx

No phone call however when I rang the 4th time to find out award they told me a decision has not been made. I think that last guy lied! As it was 5.30 and he couldn’t be bothered to look! So will call back tomorrow. Just seen on FB 9th December got awarded MR

Yes I did, it was a complete load of rubbish, almost like they hadn’t even bothered to read his case. I didn’t even think to bullet point things and cross reference until I found this thread but when I did the MR I wrote a massive statement saying how his disease affects him, I sent all of his X-rays and scans, then I recently managed to get hold of his hospital records so I’ve sent in loads of pages from those too stating it’s life long, he will need frequent scans for life, 2 letters from specialists saying he has an increased risk of developing cancer, letters stating he has limb length discrepancies, records showing he has lumber disc disease, his referral to wheelchair services, the list goes on…. I can’t see how they could possibly decline him after all the evidence I’ve since sent in xx

It’s awful isn’t it! I sometimes wish they could see some of the things that we have to go through, the struggles we have to go through! It’s hard enough looking after a child with additional needs but then there’s the mental affect it has on us as parents, coming to terms with the diagnoses, having to change the way we do things to meet our childrens needs etc, it al just takes a massive toll! Hopefully our children get what they deserve and the wait isn’t too long xx

I just don’t understand their logistics behind it all. fingers crossed you get a straight answer when you ring tomorrow and it’s a positive one. Please let me know if you manage to find out.
yeah I saw the 9th too that’s what has got me worried. But I really have lost all hope now. There’s just a lot of things I need to get for my boy to help him it’s just going to take time now.

It can vary when I had my other sons last year it took about 4 weeks for them to sort it out. But the dm did call me and told me they’ve sent it for next day payment so I couldn’t really complain with that.
i think it’s the same with the dms for Dla it depends on who’s desk it lands on and how long it takes them to sort it all out x

Hi I just checked my bank and I had a back pay in my account , my scan date was 9/4 ! I think we have mrc and no mobility as he is under 4 , he has cerebral palsy due to brain injury at birth which has impacted his mobility. Is it worth me doing a Mr or shall I wait until he is 5 x

thats ridiculous, my health visitors words were desdribe the worst day with emphasis, which is what we did, did you go into as much detail as you could, listing everything and using extra pages ??

My hubby and I described every little detail so they get the point of how severe its been, so they know what she has. she has had this since she was 2 and shes nearly 5 and still wears 18m-2-3 clothes as she lost so much weight from having this. her sibling is the same height as her and hes a couple years younger. she went through surgery and hospital stays with treatment and being poked and prodded and shes very needle phobic. its been a rough road.

i cannot believe you were declined. its utterly ridiculous. i hope her gets the high amount and youre able to pay off the things you bought. blimey, you have really been through the mill. sorry.

i thought special circumstances, and correct me if I am wrong, were the child has less than 12 months to live!!!!
