Do case managers work weekends?

Yes apparently they do, they just turn off the phone lines so people can’t call in x

hope someone can help. Been on uc for couple of years. Was joint claim but husband moved out in January due to falling out. I removed him from my claim. Worked on it. Added him back on on 2nd June when he moved back in. In that time my son was awarded high rate care. I updated and asked for it to be backdated. Waited 2 weeks for verification of the children to then be told can’t be backdated as my claim only started on the 2nd June. Surely that isn’t right? I was entitled to uc the whole time and still am? Can anyone advise?

I think it sort of starts as a new claim because if you look back, you won’t be able to see any of your monthly statements from before your husband moved back in. I was in a similar situation and that’s how it was for me too, rather than just doing like a COC it resets the whole thing if you know what I mean

Once u click that button to end claim that’s the claim over if u re start a claim for UC they go on that and not previous claims .
have u explained this to them ?

You don’t even need to end the claim, I made changes to my UC to say my relationship had ended but it started again as if it were a new claim. None of my previous statements were available or anything but I didn’t have to make a new claim if you know what I mean

yeah change in circumstances wouldn’t of ended the claim but if uve ended the claim and re done another claim then unfortunately u won’t be entitled to the back pay for disabled child element or carers element

Yes but I think even changing the circumstances like adding or removing someone from a UC claim makes it look like a whole new claim even though it isn’t. It will be the same for me if I get awarded, I first applied for dla in June last year, my relationship ended in July but I can’t get any of my statements before then so technically not a new claim, they clear all yr statements etc so effectively it is a new claim. If my child gets awarded dla I will only be able to get backdated pay from July not June

You could always ask for them to call you and explain, they might be able to word it better than me

From what I know this is correct they will only back date to June.

So would I be entitled to back pay? As that’s like £3000 nearly 😥 it’s a lot to miss out on

I have explained it to them. And also that it isn’t my fault that dla took so long to do the claim. If I didn’t update them I would get in trouble. I have emailed my mp and raised a complaint.

I really do hope it is for you, as I was told on Thursday that mine was a decision maker only to be told later on no it's not but its in a pile to be looked at 🙄. I'm 28 weeks & 3 days. X

Hi is yours MR or COC, that's exactly what I got told, and yes you are right it's so confusing. I wonder why they tell you different things each time you call x

Yeah that’s correct, it’s like a reset and they see it as a fresh so a new claim it’s crap but it’s there my stem for u

Strange u could ring citizens advice, explain it to them they kind of know about these things if they say no that doesn’t matter get back in touch with UC and say uve spoken to citizens advice and u r entitled

Annalove1 · 21/06/2025 19:26

@Mum331 i don’t really know just thinking cause it might mean that my son will be refused 😩 but i hope he wont
