made sure I had a pen and paper ready.
Got through to DLA after 55mins!
Rude man on the phone, crummy accent, I'd say late 40s/50s said the whole point of the text is so people stop ringing but they still ring making our lives harder 😳! Told him my job (civil service) which he then soon changed his tone.
He did then go on to say that they're getting round to sorting claims within 16 weeks but they're told to still say 25 weeks and the backlog has gone down massively, it all depends on who the individual decision maker, their backlog and how long it takes to receive clarification / addional supporting documents from given establishments - I.e schools, hospitals etc. Scan dates with the latest dates (dec, jan) are still given priority but all depends again how long it takes for establishments to get back to them which is why people with a closer scan date have a decision before those with a later one.

We was awarded HRC and LRM, so relieved!
He told me about additional benefits, disability child element and carers element on universal credit, you put a note in your work journal ? - however this is only available to those with a household income under a certain amount (I need to check if we are applicable for this - new to dealing with DWP).
Also addional resources such as
•Max card - discounts on days out
•CEA card - free cinema ticket for carer
•Access Card - fast pass for theme parks and free carer pass when getting a Merlin pass.
•Free bus pass for public transport.
•Disabled rail card - free carer train ticket
• Access to charities such as family fund and WellChild which has links to additional charities that can help with your child's needs.
I really hope each and every one of you get the outcome you want and deserve, don't give up! Fight for what your child is entitled too, they deserve everything they need and more, just with wee bit of extra equipment and supervision (easier said than done).
It's not easy being a parent of a disabled/Sen child, it affects us mentally, physically and financially! We are strong for our children, we are doing amazing, you've made it though another day, a lot of people forget the strain it has on you as a parent, however, our children teaches us life lessons that you could of never anticipated and throughout the journey together you learn how to become the parent that your child needs ❤️

I just sent in iep, supporting letters from school and childminder - awaiting ehcp and autism / adhd diagnoses, my school are very reluctant to do ehcps! my DS is 10 and we wasn't made aware of DLA until 8 months ago, we have 5 years of school evidence though!
They definitely need to pull their finger out and make the process quicker and easier, especially with technology nowadays!

They said it's mainly down evidence that's the hold up on claims I.e contacting doctors, schools, specialists etc getting back to DLA, some places are quicker than others x

Courtneybee · 27/05/2025 15:17

Hi, i don't think I've posted before but wondered if anyone could help. S/D 24th Jan i think, backdated to 23rd December when I requested forms.
A man called me on Friday from the DLA to check the Swiss question. He said they have to call a lot. I hadn't called to chase before, but he said someone will be looking at my claim that day, possibly Monday, and I should get a letter within 10 days.
He questioned why I hadn't filled in much for mobility, as son has dyspraxia and ASD and insoles and boots to support walking, but I said most of the questioned seemed aimed at younger children, so although he falls over often. He said he would write all this down for me.
Son is 11, diagnosed asd and dyspraxia. He also has an ehcp, under Ed psychology, occupational therapy, a school support programme, and then I also sent off cahms report and his report from his anxiety councillor. I haven't heard about dla before, so late trying.
Im hoping he could atheist get the lower rate care so we would get help for his boots. Fingers crossed everyone!

Courtneybee · 27/05/2025 15:17

Sorry, my question was... (would help if I typed it..its been a long day today) is it usual for them to call to ask the questions about the form?

TashaxJ · 27/05/2025 15:24

@Mummyof4children yes I rang this morning was on hold for 50 mins and was told no extra evidence needed he hasn’t contacted school or gp just sometimes they take longer to make a decision. He’s had the form since 09/05 tho so 3 weeks on Friday. I’ve seen lots of feb dates get awarded. I must have a slow decision maker xx

Bit the bullet and rang decision made on Friday 23rd June. Changed from mrc to hrc but lrm so going to do mr for hrm. The only thing that got him knocked back for hrm was because school statement says he takes sensory break walks during his school day so mobility isn't an issue (vua) But as his walks are literally to the end of a corridor and back 2-3mins and have to be supervised due to him eloping and only as and when it is behavioural dependent I don't think this is a valid reason for the decline. He meets all criteria for mua when outside. X
